Tough one tonight Rats.  Redlands is a really good football team.

Go get ready for Chapman also a good football team.

Go Rats

Painful night for the Pirates.  Obviously this team has a long way to go.  But they'll get back to work and work to get better.

Another NWC QB goes down with injury.  Will be waiting for news out of Whitworth on Kemp's status.

Kemp is done for the season (the early report) with a broken leg.  Whitworth is very much capable of winning the NWC as long as the coaches are able to adapt to the personnel change (which they haven't done a good job of in the past ie. when Clark got hurt).  Not much to say about the game other than Redlands is a very very good football team, currently the toast of the West coast and a team that injury free could finally get over that 1st round hump for the SCIAC...

Just got back from the Redlands/Whitworth game. The Rats played hard but they were physically ran over by a better and more talented team. If it wasn't for the touchdown pass which was a great throw/catch they would have been under 100 yards of total offense.

Tough break on Kemp as he looked good in person. Andersen is a good back, tough and physical. He just couldn't get going against Redlands front seven. I'm confident they will bounce back in conference.

It's only the beginning of the season and this is shaping up to be a really unique one...

Now back to playing football on the field this week...GO CATS!
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

You gotta love this season...win or lose on the field...no selection committee this year.......

It's been a pretty tough year for the NWC quarterback.  Yikes.

Congratulations to Redlands.  Figure they would win but not in that manner.  Rats will get better as the year goes on and they'll be in the NWC mix for sure.

Willamette is just flat getting it done so far this year.  First time Speckman has ever started 3-0 and I wouldn't have thought it would be this team.  Has to help that Willamette doesn't have to start the year with a UMHB or Western Orgon....however Concordia and SOU are not slouches.

'Cats get both at home but Linfield really has to get it done next weekend.  We cannot stumble out of the gates at 0-2.

Took in Whitworth/Redlands last night and saw Redlands dominate Whitworth physically especially on both sides of the line.  Whitworth's offense was very predictable trying to run first with Anderson who could never get untracked against the quicker and more physical D-line of Redlands.  When Whitworth's QBs were forced to throw they just weren't up to it against the stronger quicker Redlands defense.  Selway the Redlands QB threw all night underneath and was impressive how quickly from the gun he got rid of the ball to his receivers.  Stewart the Redlands RB was a load all night long and really wore Whitworth down the second half.  Last night he was the best RB on the field.  Whitworth just isn't the same team I saw play really well against Azusa Pacific last year especially on defense and will be challenged to come back next week at Chapman.  We set on the Whitworth side just in front of the Chapman coaches and some players which was very interesting being they play both Whitworth and Redlands and their comments as the game progressed were fun to listen in on.  I would be surprised if Redlands doesn't move through the SCIAC and not come out on top, at the same time Whitworth could lose two or three games just in the NWC.  I have seen Claremont vs L.C. , Pomona vs UPS, and Whitworth vs. Redlands, and will see Willamette vs La Verne next week and am looking forward to comparing Willamette and Redlands as it may be a preview of a later matchup.  My guess after last night would be October 25th in McMinnville will decide the NWC.  I think Whitworth can get better but won't have enough to 3-peat this year.  Looking forward to a couple of Cat games vs Menlo and Whitworth in Mac in a couple of weeks.

I like that you mentioned this 509. I just hope this adds more fuel to Oxy's fire when we encounter the Pups and show them that the Tigers are still the Top notch team in the SCIAC. This should be a fun meeting between old rivals.

Best of Luck to the rats the rest of the way.

Nice post CalCat....I'm surprised that Whitworth wasn't as physical as usual. That has been one of their strong suites. I'm assuming Chapman is a fairly decent team that could give Whitworth another beating.

coco

CalCat,

Will you post your analysis of the Willamette vs. LaVerne game next weekend?

Yes Coco I will I am really looking forward to seeing Willamette and hopefully able to recognize growth in the La Verne program.  It wasn't that long ago under Rex Huggins that La Verne had it going and would love to see them enter the mix in the SCIAC.  Living down here in Southern Cal there are so many teams close buy it is fun as DOC can attest, to  pick and choose games not having a favorite (Linfield ) down here just getting a great D-3 fix every weekend.
