My recap of last week's edition of Cats vs. Rats just went online:

http://www.willamettecollegian.com/2008/10/08/fairytale-season-continues-for-undefeated-bearcats-21-in-poll/

The quotable Mark Speckman: "Tackling Adam Anderson is like tackling a refrigerator."

Then he must have been a college, dorm size mini-fridge against Redlands.

He is a dorm fridge with a head, much like former Uconn great Kalid El Amin. I think on saturday tackling adam anderson will be like tackling an 90 yr old man after two glasses of wine and a hungry man dinner. he will kind of just fall down and wimper.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Focus on Anderson and Nelson's gonna nip ya'.

Hello all. I am new to DIII web site and I am enjoying reading this Linfield board.
I have some questions that all you old heads might know about the NW conference and Lewis and Clark. My son was recruited by L&C last year and they had some coaches that were really nice and seemed to be knowledgeable. However, the school is (not the football program) pretty hostel to anybody that is not a vegan so my son is playing elsewhere. What happened to all the assistant coaches?

usski,

It's going to take time for the program at L&C to get on its feet and become competitive again in the NWC.  It's possible because at one time L&C was a good football program (long time ago) so it can happen it again.  The L&C admin has to continue to support the program and give the coaching staff the resources they need.  If they don't then you might as well just cut the program now.

In terms of the culture on campus...that is just the way it is up on the Hill.  However, I know that students will get behind a winner no matter what sport and I've seen the L&C gym packed when the Pios are doing well with hoops.

Welcome to the "Linfield" board...we do have some Rats, Bearcats, Lutes, and one Oak tree floating around.  :)

Menlo made it on to the Sports Illustrated web site.  They are featured in the last video on the Campus Clicks page.  Pretty funny...

While attending the Willamette at LaVerne game I met a SoCal fellow who was at the game out of loyalty to Coach MacEldowney at Willamette. When Mac was coach at Lewis and Clark this fellow was hired  as an assistant. His story of trying to run the football program under the AD and admin was one of horror, but well known, I suppose. I just had not heard details before.

I was there!!  :o The photographer kneeling behind the goal post is me. After the kick I lowered my camera and looked over my shoulder and, damn, missed a great shot. ;D
I should add, the kid was fine. Mom ran over, he said, with nary a tear, "I'm OK" and ran off to play some more.

As a Linfield fan, it makes me proud to see how our collective memories are so selective.  From the Linfield website--

"Despite not scoring a touchdown in a game for the first time since 2001 (and the first time at home since 1996), the Wildcats kept their record against the Oaks perfect (10-0) "

This same information was reported by D or D during last weekends webcast.  All very interesting headed into tomorrow's game against the Rats.  Just a reminder, lest we  forget, last year (2007) Whitworth 10 Linfield 6 (on two Brinkhoeffer field goals).  Well worth forgetting for sure.  Good Luck this week Wildcats!
Go Cats!

I hope you are correct that football can make a comeback at Lewis & Clark because the NWC needs viable teams. I have my concerns about L&C football because the culture at the school is so extreme that most athletes may be put off. L&C is a clothing optional school and has gender neutral bathrooms. Wow. The coaches are great, the academics are exceptional but your carbon footprint is what determines a student's acceptance on campus.
