In fact, the Logger offense was able to do much more on the road (316 yards of total offense) than the Linfield offense was able to do against the Oaks in McMinnville (249 yards of total offense).

Well...I feel safe to say that Linfield's offense had a few more options available last weekend compared to Menlo but I'll let you hang onto your notion.

Grizz,  here is something that I'm totally perplexed about and maybe you could help me out.  Why would UPS put a new practice field turf field in next door to Baker Stadium but not put in a new game field?

It's not like UPS's sod is a pristine surface...I'm not sure if that makes much since.  I do find it a little funny that the UPS web site has a photo that features the practice field but not the actual field games are played on.

That causes a bit of discussion up here as well.  The reasoning that I got was that the practice field before was in horrible shape, wasn't level, etc. and then someone donated some money to fix the field and install lights, with the wish that it be available for intramurals and club sports to use when the varsity teams aren't on it.

I think there is talk about putting artificial turf at the stadium since, I believe, UPS is the only school where the soccer teams (and women's lacrosse) play at the stadium as well (maybe Willamette?).   I don't know how far done the line that might be but from what I understand, it's in the works.

Nope.  Willamette has a separate soccer/lacrosse field.  The Cascade Surge, a semi-pro Premier Development League soccer team, use McCulloch Stadium during the summer and there are intramurals there in the fall, but that's about it.

Hey  Coco,
Great to see you up and about again.  As for L & C  I would have to think we could start all of our #2 guys and still win in a romp.

GHC

Thanks, GHC. It was good to see you and so many others -- Bluenote, Tux, CalCat, DOC, and the BWC bunch. It's great to be off house arrest!

Thanks for the special delivery of my Catdomealumni.com T-shirt, too. Nice job, WC11. Now we can have Coco family day and all dress alike.

As for L&C, I keep hoping for them to be competitive, but I guess it's going to take a few more years. Maybe we could be like Willamette and put in a few girls when we play them.

Welcome, Grizz.

That's an outstanding idea, GHC! We all appreciate what he does for us. His videos and interviews are awesome, along with his knowledge of the program in general that he shares with us. He never asks for anything in return, and he put a lot of work into getting those T-shirts.

The Catdome Nation came together to bring OAS out here, and we can come together for this, too.

Willamettes explosive passing  offense "The Fly" against Linfield run stopping defense.  Linfield's run oriented offense vs Willamettes bend but don't break defense.  Kicking games are equal.  Edge to Linfield on kickoffs/pk - edge to Willamette on punts.  Willamette can score quickly from anywhere on the field - Linfield can score given enough time -  maybe.  Linfield still smarting from 2007 defeat in the last minute.  Willamette is the new kid on the block.  It will come down to what is upstairs - not in the head but in the play calling from the press box.  Edge Willamette.

I hope your kidding:  Here are Willamette's stats for the year:

RUSHING YARDAGE...............       1626
  Yards gained rushing........        1717
  Yards lost rushing..........              91
  Rushing Attempts............           270
  Average Per Rush............              6.0
  Average Per Game............         271.0
  TDs Rushing.................                24
PASSING YARDAGE...............         605
  Att-Comp-Int................      89-50-2
  Average Per Pass............            6.8
  Average Per Catch...........          12.1
  Average Per Game............        100.8
TDs Passing.................                   5

I'm sure you must have meant Willamette's explosive running attack?  Yes????

The Linfield/Willamette game comes down to one thing....if the Cats refuse to yield turnovers...The Bearcats are toast.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

NPR had a feature this AM regarding NCAA statistics for graduating student athletes.
The NCAA is proud, with the exception of female bowlers which was in the high 60's.
I did not expect the NCAA to break down the different divisions, but, indeed, if it is true Division III more than carries it's weight in this PR area, I believe travel budgets for football should increase accordingly.   8)

Below is my recap of what was nominally a "game" last Saturday:

http://www.willamettecollegian.com/2008/10/15/undefeated-bearcats-clobber-rival-pioneers-76-10/

I would also like to issue a correction on behalf of my editors, who don't watch football.  The last half of paragraph three should read as follows (how I originally submitted it):

"Deon Horne would score the next Bearcat touchdown, capitalizing on a 32 yard interception return by linebacker Jack Bevins.  After a short punt gave Willamette the ball back again, Jose Green walked in for another touchdown from six yards out."
