I'm just surprised that Speckman isn't running around the women's soccer team trying to find another female kicker so WU can get another pub grab.   ;D

Better than that! BearcatFan has persuaded his gal to play noseguard!

She's tough, to be sure, but I don't think tough enough to go up against the likes of Tocher, Otineru, et. al.

All you Linfield tailgaters be sure to have some grub and cold drinks set aside for West Region scribe and adopoted Linfield Wildcat, Adam Johnson (oAs).

He'll be rolling into the Catdome with GHC and the blue jug of death on Saturday morning.

By cold drinks you mean beer.

"Blue jug of death." I like that.

Has OAS ever seen The Fly? As much as I hate to admit it, it can be a thing of beauty when it is well executed, and Willamette has done that on occasion. With the way our D is playing this year, however, we should have no trouble, and our coaches have had plenty of experience in dealing with it. It should be a great game. Linfield by 7.

Reading the post gets me all fired up for some Football. Wildcat style.
And some tailgating, Wildcat style.

Look out B-cats. The Wildcats are going to take your 5th leg or arm and put it where you don't want it. Our Salty D is to much for the NWC to handle. Summers and Sparky are made men.  JJ and the rest of the crew will clean up what Summers and Sparky leave behind.

As for the O. Franklin and company are going to move the ball. Number 1 man Reggie is going to test the defense early. Once that is done the other 124 Wildcats will finish the job.

WTF?

Have you seen the Bearcats this season? They've stopped everyone they've faced, allowing just 16 points per game while scoring 42.

Wildcats rang up 55 on L & C, Bearcats 76 (with 2nd & 3rd stringers playing for most of the game). Granted L&C isn't much of a barometer, but they are a common opponent; As are Whitworth and Southern Oregon...

Wildcats beat Whitworth by 3, Willamette beat them by 9.

Bearcats scored 31 vs Southern Oregon, Linfield only 14.

Versus common opponents, Bearcats are the clear favorite. But this game won't be played on paper.

Willamette hasn't allowed more than 23 points in a game since Sept. 29, 2007 when Linfield scored 32.

And lost by 1...

BearcatFan, take it easy with PPJ and the Linfield folks in general this week.  I don't see much good in talking so much about how good we are unless we prove it on the field Saturday.  Of course afterwards, it's no holds barred.

I learned a long time ago - growing up as a fan of a team on the losing end of a one-sided rivalry - not to say things before the game that could get me into trouble after the game.  So I'm just going to make a couple of points and then bow out gracefully from the discussion until after the game is over.

1.) I expect there to be a larger than usual turnout of Willamette fans for the game.  Just got an e-mail today that the Bearcat Club is sponsoring a pre-game tailgate.  The atmosphere should be awesome.
2.) Willamette will be ready to play.  That's as close to a prediction as you'll get from me.
3.) As both a Bearcat and a fan of college football, I'm looking forward to Saturday's game like no other.

Oh, and if you happen to see a skinny kid wearing a cardinal red hoodie with gold "Willamette" lettering, a white hat with a "W," and carrying a notepad and pencil along with a Willamette media guide, say hi to BearcatPress!

Welcome BearcatFan...
Scores comparisons are always fun to chat about...but are usually meaningless...I am sure this will be a tough battle no matter what...IMHO...The RealCats have not yet truly defined themselves this year on the O side of the ball...but just may do so this Saturday....Willamette is toast if they do, as the D will take care of business.  If the RealCats play error free football then it will certainly be a long and miserable afternoon for all SalemCats concerned.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

D O.C.

Sure, the tendency is to follow the ball, but take some time to watch the trenches this Saturday. There will be the tough and tumble of 9 months of preparation in 75 square yards of black pellet turf. The Willamette guys appear to be studs and the LINFIELD guys know the are a better combination.

And I have to go to a Science Fair with ten year olds.

While I often like to look at common opponents to get a sense of how a game will turn out, I don't think it is that helpful when both teams have beaten all of their common opponents and in this case the margins of victory have not been all that different.  True, Willamette has beaten teams by more points but we're not talking several touchdowns per game (Lewis and Clark not counting since, as you said it was mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers playing and those guys won't be deciding this week's contest).  I also think the fact that Linfield has not had the same QB start two games in a row makes that comparison a little difficult to use.  But here is the big comparison that will be interesting to watch.  Willamette has a significant positive turnover margin while Linfield has a tendency to give the ball away.  In a matchup like we have tomorrow, this will be key.  Whichever team can hold onto the ball will win, in my opinion.  I do like the way Linfield's D matches up against Willamette's O.  I don't know which Linfield offense we'll see tomorrow so I can really get a sense for how they'll match up against the Bearcat D.  But I am very excited to find out!  Go WILDCATS!

P.S. Welcome to the board BearCatFan.   I hope you're still here next week, win or lose.  Heck last year, the one Willamette poster didn't even stick around after his Bearcats won the game.....

It'll be interesting to see if Speckman has the team practice on the "Quad" today as he did prior to the L & C game. I think that was a brilliant move to get the team some more exposure and get students and faculty a little more geared up for the game.
