Coco, my man, we can only hope........... :)
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

It's a shorter flight than to Texas.

Heck, I would even take a 9-game sched if we could drop WOU.

WC11- you may know more to this- Why wouldn't SOU move to DIII? It would be easy on travel and they have multiple sports to play in the NWC. Seems like they are stuck in NAIA.

WC11 I'm not, but I think I can field this one...
With SOU playing in NAIA, they are able to give athletic scholarships. At D3, this is not the case. No athletic scholarships are given out in D3 ball, so any players at SOU on scholarship would be stripped of any aid. It's just a completely different ball game.

Correction: same ball game, different politics.

As far as I know the NWC will only take Private Schools as members, which counts out SOU.
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Not sure if people have seen today's Around the West column.  Some nice observations about the Bearcats:

Don't think this has been posted yet. Good news out of L&C land. They've already secured their schedule for next year, and it's their first 10 game schedule since the 90's. Wouldn't let me link it right to the release page, but it's the first article on their sports home page.

Pios Schedule Released

It also states the Pios are "anticipating their largest squad size in over a decade" in '09. 10 game schedules and increasing squad sizes are positive signs to the rest of the NWC that L&C is continuing to try and get their program going in the right direction, IMO.

Good news - it seemed to me that there was always more excitement for football at Riverdale games on Friday night at Griswold stadium than there was for Pios games on Saturdays.  :o

Of course, I've only been to one L&C game and about 4-5 Riverdale games.

Linfield fans should not be rude or disparage opponents' fans on this board.
WU won, fair and square.    You clearly out-coached and out-played Linfield.

......just kick your own players and coaches in the butt...that's OK.   ???
You do your thing and we'll do ours and we'll all live in peace and groovy love!

+1. This seems to be the more relevant reason. Before joining the NAIA's Montana-based Frontier Conference, EOU was a D-3 independent (in football). EOU applied for NWC membership and was rather strongly denied. I think a few of the football schools in the NWC would have welcomed them as a football-only affiliate. But EOU was sick of the complications of dual membership (other sports are and were in the NAIA's Oregon-based Cascade Conference) and wanted to go one way or the other with a home conference for all their sports.

SOU tried to join the Frontier for football as well, and has tried a number of times/ways to get some other type of league going (for example w/ Azusa Pacific and Simon Frasier - remember them?). I think it's a real shame that the NCAA has since taken such a hard line against dual membership. SOU and Azusa would be huge additions to the D-2 GNAC as football-only affiliates, but I don't know if an all-sports move to D-2 makes a lot of sense for either school. Seems like Azusa (and Chapman) would be a good candidate for football-only membership in the SCIAC as well.

Thought I'd let all of you know that I have created a new forum site for Concordia-Moorhead. It's new and there aren't many registered yet, but it'll catch fire soon enough.

Feel free to trickle on over and register (since a Linfield fan already has).

It is good news that L&C is continuing to build their football program.  The NWC needs more competition and L&C has had some pretty good football teams in the past.

As for the enthusiasm of their fans -- I thought their fans at the WU-L&C game were awesome.  They cheered until the bitter end & then went out on the field and encouraged their team when it was over.  Not like some teams where only a shut-out is acceptable!!  Nothing wrong with the Pios fans -- they just need some size & strength--they move pretty fast already.

I think the NWC teams should play their 2nd string against L&C until their team gets built up.  100 guys against 40 just isn't fun!

Guess I should clarify -- the fans don't need size & strength -- the team does!  My bad!

snoop dawg

Maybe if the L&C fans had size and strength, they woudn't be intimidated by those unruly Cats fans. ;)

bbaddict

You talking about unruly Bearcat or Wildcat fans -- cuz they both have em?!
