I started to post this late last night on the SCIAC board (late for you all not so late for me) and then decided against it, mostly because the new Regional Rankings come out tomorrow.  But since this is the topic today here goes.

Based mostly on regional rankings, here's what I think should happen:

Willamette hosts Redlands
Oxy hosts the IIAC winner
Monmouth hosts UWWW
UWSP hosts MIAC winner

Sabretooth Tiger

Just looked back at old posts, Oxy was not # 2 in the region, I think that was UWW . . . but this was a year where the West had a lot of top 10 teams . . . regardless, we got shipped to Linfield and got spanked . . .

For now, I'll hope that the Tigers win out the regular season and then reasonably expect that we'll get a first round match at Willamette if nothing else upsets the apple cart between now and then.

Have you considered whether North Central gets shipped to the West?

Here's what I think is more likely:

Willamette hosts OXY
Monmouth hosts IIAC champ
UWSP hosts MIAC winner
UWWW hosts Northwestern (Mn.)

QuoteYup . . . my recollection is that in going into round one in 2005, Linfield was ranked #1 and Oxy was ranked #2.

What about 2007?  Whitworth was the #2 seed in the west (I believe), and Oxy could not have been below the #6 seed, yet they got paired up in round 1...an eight team bracket would assume #2 vs. #7 but we all know that wasn't the case.

QuoteIf the committee would do that, and they did, rest assured they won't necessary give a team the "first round game they have earned."

Which is exactly why that last line was nothing more than wishful thinking

Quote
Hardin Simmons, UMHB and Trinity have fought it out in the first two rounds of the "Texas Sub-Bracket" every year due to GEOGRAPHIC PROXIMITY .  Believe us, it is the number 1 criteria in seeding.

Yeah, but only the MHB and HS game was between conference rivals.  Geographic proximity does seem to be the #1 criteria but the selection committee has been pretty good at avoiding first round matchups between conference opponents so long as another viable option is present...in this case there is one, leave UR home and send Oxy to Willamette

No, that was just a brief look at it.  I think it's likely the West only gets 7 though as a way to dump Redlands and match up WU and OXY.  Although I'd like to see Northwestern get in (PLU grad at the helm), they don't have and auto bid and their schedule is less than impressive, in my opinion.  Also if Stevens Point doesn't win out (they've squeaked by a few already) I don't think they get in.  It appears they played 3 non d3 for their out of conference schedule, that'll hurt them overall.

Fans hoping for three from the far west should hope for a Stevens Point loss.

Take note as others have stated, North Central ends up in the west region as the #1 seed.

Northwestern, MN, although touting a PLU grad as head coach(news to me), is very unlikely to make the tournament as they still face the University of St. Thomas in the final weekend.

Concordia, early season loser to Willamette, is in the lead but has a home game left left with Carleton(co-conference leader) and an away game at Gustavus(co-conference leader & hot as a pistol).

St. John's(co-co-co-leader) has Augsburg at home and Carleton(co-leader) on the road.

Where's Coco?

I'm guessing the WIAC will provide two of the tourney entrants.

Speedy (and others),

You might be interested in some of the discussion regarding playoff match-ups over on Post Patterns->General Football->Potential Playoff Selections / Seedings (also the Pool C and Pool B threads might be of interest.)

I posted my guess for the West Region over there and several of the real gurus of the board weigh in (like Ralph Turner, Pat, and Keith McMillan).

Unless the Bearcats drop two, they win the NWC. One loss puts them at Oxy.

My boss will not be happy about this.  my bad, the sender of WOU posts is not who you think.  let's just leave it at that.

Your e-mail address is on your posts, which is required by our Terms of Service. Seems clear.

Maybe he was careless enough to let a current athlete or student assistant have access to his e-mail account. Don't know if I buy it or not, but that's what I inferred from his 'excuse.'

I think adults know they are responsible for their own e-mail account.

The problem with that logic, Pat, is assuming that just because he's of age means he is an adult.    And suddenly I find myself rooting for Linfield.  Never saw that coming.

Of course we're rooting for Linfield -- we want them to win out!  Makes WU's win over them that much sweeter.

And it's D3 vs. D2 -- we must be loyal, even if it requires cheering for purple!

No personal knowledge of the Northwestern team, just see the head coach is listed on this site as Kirk Talley, PLU '81, and a teammate of mine.

Agreed, I don't think they will make the playoffs.

Are they the team that played two games in one day a couple of years back??
