Haven't posted in a while because I wanted to take a "wait-and-see" attitude toward the final four games of the season for the Pirates.  Besides the fact that they finished very well, I wanted to see the impact of the change at QB.

I have to admit feeling a little uncomfortable with the change away from Peck when it was made.  He hadn't played badly in the games he started.  But having seen the freshmen play twice now, I can better understand the coaches decision.  Both freshmen looked sharper and more athletic.  In the two games I watched, the offense clicked much better when they were in, and the point totals and total offense numbers from those games indicate the same.

I think the Pirates set themselves up to have a great 2009 by finishing strong and letting the frosh get their feet wet this season.  Just need to get players healthy again in the secondary and we'll be good to go.

OK....now I'm confused...which is it!

Sparks Stadium is currently in the process of receiving much needed renovations that will transform the athletic facility into one of the crowning jewels of the Puget Sound region.

The Puyallup School District School Board approved a measure in December 2007 granting the implementation of new FieldTurf on the football/soccer field, refurbishing of the track, installation of a new sound system and the construction of a new scoreboard. The project is expected to be completed by the second week of August, before the start of fall sports practices. Work began on the project on June 2.

Puyallup School District Athletic Director Rick Wells said the entire scope of the project is estimated to cost between $1.4 and $1.6 million dollars. He is especially excited about the new FieldTurf slated to be installed on the main field.

“It’s been a two year process. We informed the school board that renovations were needed a few years ago. We’ve worked with all the football and soccer coaches and building athletic directors in the district to see what kind of surface we were looking for,” Wells said. “We toured a multitude of other facilities in the area. It was a collaboration of all the coaches in the district and the final choice was Field Turf. The durability of the stuff is evolutionary.”

The new FieldTurf will replace Astroturf that was installed in 1997. A new playing surface was long overdue, Wells said.

“Astroturf only has a 10 year life-span,” Wells said. “The fibers were decreasing and when that happens the threads get thinner and the seams begin to split. From the stands the astroturf looks great but when you get on the field the height of the turf was pretty small. It was losing its nap height. After years of wear and tear that tends to happen.”

I know, I know.....I learned a valuable lesson, thank you.

Didn't Obama go to Linfield at one time? ;)  Or is he from Iowa?  (easy Mr. Y, just kidding)

From Wikipedia:
"...Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years."

I guess Oxy can claim him as one of their own. ;)

Oh yea . . . we do . . . we will . . . like I said on another board, I'm betting that the narrative turns out better for us than Nixon did for Whittier.

44 presidents . . . two SCIAC schools . . . not bad.

From the Occidental College webpage:
"We are proud that an Occidental alumnus will be serving in the country's highest office," said Occidental President Robert A. Skotheim. "Barack Obama is the latest expression of Occidental's long history of public service that has produced such distinguished leaders as Robert Finch, Class of 1947, Jack Kemp, Class of 1957, and Rear Admiral Marsha Johnson Evans, Class of 1968." Obama was there for his Freshman and Sophomore years then he transfered to Columbia. Are students considered an alumnus even if the don't graduate from the the college or university they started at?

Per the SCIAC board and roughly paraphrased.... "it depends on which dictionary you look up the word 'almunus'..... seems like this is a recurring theme on our board. there was the Amy Tan discussion a week or two ago, then the WOU guy who transfered to Idaho St.....do we really care to discuss this topic so much? ;)  I mean there is still football this week, right?  :)  ;D

'Alumnus' means one who attended a School. Doesn't mean if they graduated or not.
So one could be an Alumnus of many Colleges.
Which means that I'm a WOU  :( ( OCE)  ;D alum because I took some prep and other Class's before Linfield.

Wait just a minute........ there must be a clause in the term so that you can not claim the School......... Let it be known that I Tuxguy do not claim WOU in any way shape or form as my College. WEW :o :o,

By the way, It was Oregon College of Education when I attended which should give me an out!!

MonroviaCat, sorry just had to put in my 2 cents.

GO WILDCATS!
Luck the Flutes!.....Sorry d-train, just reminded me of the great games with Frosty and Ad. Two of the Best Coach's to ever Coach in the NWC or the Country for that matter.
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Pineconefan,
Whitworth loses two players on D (both are in the secondary which may not be a bad thing), but returns two guys from injury who either started this year or in years past.  Also, word on the street is that Easterlin (DE) may be back next year if he gets accepted into the MBA program.  In a way, Whitworth's D could return 13 guys who have started or have seen a significant amount of time over the last two years.  It also looks like right now the freshman corner who started all but 1 or 2 games will be back on the bench with the return of Stottlemyer and Duncan (RS Sr.).  Will also be interesting to see if Kemp comes back since it sounds like they will have him at WR or FS...with the success of the young guns and his elbow in the shape it is, no use having him fight for a QB spot.

BLue, we are D3 so we need to include some learning with the football  :)

I, for one, always thought alumnus meant had graduated from there.  I guess my brother is a Linfield alum then and not just a former student/player.

TUXGUY, trying to think up a retort for you but I guess I'm just a Lute and still don't know how to talk trash. ;D

Yes, football.  Why won't anyone talk about Menlo and how they only lost to Whitworth by 2 and they held Linfield to 3 field goals?  Has there been another game all season, or even last season where Linfield didn't score a TD?   Is Menlo that good, or were the Wildcats just having an off day?  It was a home game for Linfield?  Don't know, just asking?

Since you asked.......  Menlo looks to be having a season where they are a decent competitive team and just can't catch a break (or make one of their own).  Losses by 3 pts (OT), 2 pts, and 1 pt.  If the game was in California I'd give them a shot at the upset this week.  As it is I think WU is just too good to let that happen.  Win and you have an even shot at a home playoff game.  Lose and you're CANNED HEAT.

bluenote

Well since you guys are all happy I'd thought I'd chime in. Foss can back me up on this one.....when Linfield went up to UPS......Foss and I snuck a peek at at the WOU/Humbolt State game to get a scouting report so to speak (I had my radio listening to the 'cats up at UPS....) anyway, during halftime a dog ran out on the field....and I kid you not, it took a dump right on the 40 yard line.....ask Foss! It was the most hilarious thing I had seen in at least 2 hours!   ;D
