A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Guess Bluenote's WOU post was erased.

I was wondering what happened to it.

I guess stories of dogs laying cable at WOU violate the T.O.S.

Bracket Confusion

Just took a peek at the D3 Playoffs Bracket Projection and I'm confused.

In the West, they have the #3 (Occidental) playing the #1 (Willamette), the #2 (North Central) playing the #8 (Wartburg), the #4 (Monmouth) playing the #6 (UW-Whitewater) and the #5 (UW-Stevens Point) playing the #7 (MIAC Champ).

and in the South, they have it as 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 4, 5 v 6.

Shouldn't it be 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6, 4 v 5?

Brackets are often rearranged from the traditional seeds for travel purposes.  You must be new here.   ;)

They always try to limit the number of flights.  Flights are taken if the mileage between schools is greater than 500.  So pairing Oxy and Willamette means Oxy has to fly, but the other three visiting teams can bus it.

If they went with traditional pairings, they'd have to fly two teams (in this case, #8 Wartburg to Willametter and #6 Whitewater to Oxy).

Bearcat:

Like the post says under that projected bracket . . . "money rules all" . . . I think that even if North Central were not to be moved to the West, that absent Redlands in the picture, it would be #1 Bearcats hosting # 2 Tigers . . . unless of course the Oaks come through for the Tigers this weekend by pulling off an upset giving Oxy possible home field advantage (provided we don't stumble against the Poets) . . . otherwise, time for us wussy Southern Californian's to dig out our winter/wet gear:

Long Range Salem Oregon weather forecast for Saturday - November 22
Light Rain And Snow.
High: 37°F / 3°C.
Precipitation: 2.86mm (0.11 in)

B-Fan,

We're division III and it's all about saving money where the NCAA can.  Yes in a perfect world it would be 1-8, etc but if the powers-that-be can save some cash on a flight most times they would pit 1 vs 2. and not think twice.

It's not the first or last time the SCIAC or Oxy is going to get the short stick in this deal.

Makes sense, I guess I'm just a traditionalist when it comes to playoff brackets!

I'll be sure to have plenty of Coffee &  Hot Chocolate on hand for the 22nd!

So far, Indian Summer has ruled on Saturdays for Bearcat games (with the exception of last weekend when it rained for about 1.5 quarters after the half and all morning before kickoff).

I've ordered up some nice weather for Menlo this Saturday. High in the mid 50's at kickoff and partly sunny.

While West Coast and Texas teams have often seen 'bending' of seeds, so far as I have seen they've never gone quite so far as #2 @ #1 in the first round.  If that happens this year, we will know for sure that money beats EVERYTHING.

Field Turf - they had to remove the grass, the cheerleaders were grazing too much  :o
