Blue, maybe some of the recruits will think they should go to PLU thinking they could/should play right away, rather than sit at Linfield.  On the other hand they would probably be wrong and I'm not sure that's the kind of recruit we need.  I know, I'm grasping at straws...stunned by today's score.  I didn't think we'd win, but I did think it would be a good game.

p.s. I think your guys would be a good playoff team this year but I don't see it happening.  Cal Lu should get a look to based on the same thinking.  Only two losses and both to high seed playoff teams.

...speedybigboy .....did you happen to catch what Scott Westering was telling his players before they went into halftime. He was rather animated to say the least. And it was really cool to see Frosty with his PLU snowman hat on....classic. The only thing missing was the gold sweat pants, he had on grey ones.....when talking to the recruits, he also made an analogy to chocolate chip cookies that I thought was great.

Hey Coco,
Ah another perfect day in the Pacific NW.  As everyone knows our boys rolled em big.  the pre game story was that Stash had at least 25-30 PLU recruits on the sidelines watching the Lutes do their warmups.  The announcer made a point of advising all of the PLU recruits to move to the stands as the game was ready to start.  Wonder how many of them will be making a call to the Catdome !!  I did see several Cat recruits at the game today.  What a great showcase for the program.
Also the new turf is nice except for the frickiin Soccer lines all over the place.
Cat fans jammed the visitor side.  SRO !!

Life is good

Phone this one in

GHC  Peace out

Aw, geez, did they mess up their pretty new turf with soccer lines? What's wrong with some people?

Too bad the announcer didn't have the PLU recruits move behind the stands after the warmups.
Yeah, maybe a few of their prospects will call Joe Smith now. He answers his phone.

O.K. Sorry I wasn't at Sparks today, but with great Tickets to the U.O. vs. Arizona game.....please.... D1! :)

I was given updates all day long from Mrs. Tuxguy. now about the Ducks!
Great game in the first half but the Ducks got placent at the half and had to hold on for the WIN. up 45-17 and all of the sudden it was 48-45. ended 55-45, but with lot's of drama.

I just want to see our Cats play up to what the teams potentiel is. Great game today sounds like, let's build on this for next year, and make a run at the NWC crown, which is what we are a custom too.

GO WILDCATS
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Tuxguy

yes!

bluenote and I are thinking of coming over to the game with our better halves, ............Bearcatpress, can you help us out???

It will be Cats all  the way to the Stagg...........

I have a good felling about this Bearcat team.....the Fly is hard to defend, go NWC.......Win the Stagg Bowl.
one game at a time......

as always.......GO WILDCATS

O.K.

Guess I'm the only one still up!!!

Great game to end a great career by Travis Masters today...273 all purpose yards.
With all things this young man has gone through......... and  to play this great game of Football, my hat comes off to him. Thanks for the memories.

This fan would settle for maybe one interception every other game, one fumble every 3 games (only one lost deep in our own territory), zero personal fouls, maybe a realistic 25 yards a game in penalties (none in crucial situations).

Keep the team we have.

oh yeah, replace the non Division III teams.  8)

D.O.C.,

You are exactly right.    Linfield's talent is there; just need to improve the fundamentals.   Only Willamette clearly beat us; we could have been 8-1.

I am not convinced we should be excluded from the playoffs.     Our three losses were to very good teams.     And, we could have won two of those.

Next year!    GO! CATS GO!

How about scheduling a SIAC warm up team before Hardin Simmons next year?  It's a tough way to open the season when HS already has a tough game against a WIAC team under their belt.  Then we could drop WOU or SOU and help the Cats in the process.

Dump WOU!!!    That cost cost the Wildcats a possible playoff spot.     I do believe it hurt our standing.

As Pat would say, it's not who you lose to, it's who you beat.  This year, Linfield didn't beat anybody worth mentioning.  Probably the biggest victories for the Cats this year were Whitworth and Southern Oregon and of course Southern Oregon does not count in the D3 world (nor did they end up being a good team.....3 wins all year though one was a crippled MHB team).  I think we need to try to dump SOU and WOU simply because they do nothing for us in playoff consideration if we win and probably end up hurting us if we lose (not officially of course but we need more regional wins in D3).  I think we also need a 10th game especially if we continue to play non-d3 opponents.  When you look at the Cats this year they ended up 6-3 overall but their playoff consideration record is only 5-2.  Now compare that to other play-off contenders who are maybe 8-2 (in D3) and you can see how we just don't stack up (record-wise).  I love the fact that we play Hardin Simmons---great matchup the last 3 years.  We just need to fill in 3 spots with similar matchups (or at least D3 schools!).  SCIAC?  WIAC?  How bout it? :)

Using this years schedule as a template (since we don't have Linfield's for next year) and looking at open dates for the 2009 season for other teams we could say...(and YES---I know we've likely tried and couldn't get a phone answered....maybe now that we've had 3 'down' years in a row we might have better luck)

Replace SOU with: Occidental, Whittier, Colorado College, UW-(Euclaire, Oshkosh, Stevens Pt.) et. al.
Replace WOU with:  Frostburg State, Gallaudet (O.K.  neither of these look good but they are the only ones currently listed)....maybe this is where Pacific fills in when/if they get a team....
Play an earlier game (Sept. 5th) against:  (UW-Euclaire, Whitewater, or Stevens Pt.) among others.
or
Fill in the bye week (September 21st) against:  UW-(Eau Claire, Stout, Whitewater)

I'm sure there will be more teams with opening announced as well.....I know money is likely a big factor but it seems to me that Linfield Football is well supported and dollars might be found if it meant expanding the schedule to 10 games and/or an all D3 schedule....done for now. :0
Go Cats!

So Blue,
You were at the Cat game yesterday.  Let me get this straight.  You didn't come by our tailgate and hang with the boys, you sat on the PLU side, listened to Frosty and got your afterglow on, is there something you are not telling us Blue ?  And all of this time I thought you were a Cat Backer.

MonroviaCat,

No argument.   You are right; we likely will not get in.    Yet, I am convinced we are one of the 32 best in the country; maybe even top 16.   That is what I am saying.

George
GO CATS! GO!

MonroviaCat

I think we have the potential George---yesterday we played like one of those teams...the week before, maybe....the UPS game---no way.  I'm excited to see next year's Cat's hopefully play more solidly consistent and successfull!
Go Cats!

bluenote

MonroviaCat/Foss....I like your suggestions. A lot of possibilities to consider. We'll have to see how things work out. It should be interesting. I like the idea of scheduling a SCIAC team or 2 as the first option (also check out Chapman, they're independent). Then maybe check out some IIAC or MAIC teams or look at the WIAC or possibly another Southern team from Texas like UMHB, Trinity? I'm sure our people are looking at all the options, I don't think they want to play WOU very much longer either......and the more in region DIII teams we play the better.
