Whitewater might be a struggle,  but I think they could take SJU, if they get past Oxy, which they probably will.

I wouldn't look past SJU at all.

I wouldn't look past OXY.  They look tough to me, home field advantage or not.

I don't think - judging from their record, and having seen them play all season - that Willamette has looked past anyone all year. No reason to think that they'll start now.

My opinion only. I believe Oxy will be a tough challenge for the Bearcats, but that Willamette will prevail. They have too many weapons, are strong on defense, and don't make many mistakes. The Johns seem to be having a shakier season this year, and their wins haven't been as decisive as in years past.

That's a brutal first two rounds for the Bearcats.  The #2 seed and probably the defending national champs if we make it.  Wow.  Damn.

You're only as good as your toughest opponent that you win over!  So, GO BEARCATS!  I believe they can win.   Our defense looked a little shaky yesterday in the first half, but did you see the size of the Menlo O-line?  They were built like trucks!!  But we beat them by 25 points -- so I guess they figured it out.  (Menlo has had some close games against some good teams this year, but WU wasn't one of them.)

Question:  If WU beats Oxy will the next game be at WU as well?

coco

Yep. As the #1 seed, they have home games for a few weeks.

Thanks, coco, Wildcat & Bluenote for the expanded cheering section!  I'm a Bearcat Fan but when Linfield was in the playoffs all those years, I cheered for purple.  It's about the NWC!!

I think Willamette approaches it one game at a time.   The players I spoke with didn't even look lightly at last week's game.

I think Oxy will have home field advantage week 2.
;) ;)

Or if they don't, at least they can say they had a trip to Salem! ;)

Same here, coco - the players I spoke with last week  and 2 weeks ago weren't even looking past Menlo or UPS!  All season they've focused on their next opponent.

I'm sure Coach Speckman will have them in the right mindset - all the while claiming ignorance of what their mindset is - for Oxy.

I'm curious who you think the toughest opponent has been so far?

I can't answer for BP, but I think it'd have to be Linfield. That game was a lot closer than the final score would indicate, but WU showed their mettle and ran away with it in the 4th quarter after Linfield got to within 3 points.

They better not look past Oxy, because they won't live it down on here if they lose to the SCIAC as the #1 seed in bracket!

Bearcat fans, this is what I meant when talking about how tough the West Region is. Three extremely difficult games await in-region, IF you make it that far. I think Oxy is going to be game. At least Mt. Union is on the other side of the bracket. I wish you luck. Would be nice to remind everyone what the NWC is capable of, especially after the screwjob we got last year at this time.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Tough for me to say, but I'd probably say Linfield.  I'd also put Whitworth and SOU up there, because we came from two touchdowns down in both of those games.

Of course, people did a double take when you took C - M on the road.
Now THAT counts a great deal more than WOU and SOU.
