It would be without a lot of Joe Ely in there.

QuoteInstead of 4 years how about we haven't won at Whitworth in about two visits...we're not the GNAC and don't play a round robin Rat.  You're better than that.

Figured you'd catch that.  That was the best political spin I could put on it.  How 'bout the fact that next year's seniors (at Linfield) have only beaten Whitworth once in their career?  Just make sure your Cats aren't so eager to give up the football and I guess they got a chance.

criswyly, is there any reason why you're using such an outdated and cliche method for analysis of this game?  Everyone understands score comparisons mean diddly!!

BoBo
Because I'm an outdated and cliched poster who thought the post was a fun comparison...who cares if it doesn't mean diddly....at least it's the truth :o...Besides...."for me" it's not about accurate game analysis...it's about another opportunity to get to know people from afar...and have more fun ;D

Next time I'll insert a  ;) to express my real feelings!!

I just hope that WU doesn't turn out to be another paper tiger like a certain highly-rated east coast team (WESLEY) that played the Warhawks in the semi's in '05 & '06...KABOOM!!

...and I hope UWW doesn't lay an egg, too!!

Whitewater has only beat two teams with a winning record this season....and of course lost to UWSP who lost to Wartburg this weekend...Wartburg had to go into OT their final regular season game to beat Dubuque an 0-10 team.....Hmmmm???

Willamette has beat four teams with winning records this season...and in addition has beat Southern Oregon who handed Mary Hardin Baylor their only loss 40-28....Hmmmm?

Also Whitewater only beat a 5-5 Stout team 17-10....(as KitchenSink says...."the Warhawks were a little lucky to escape that one with a win") Hmmm?

Willamette's first round game was theoritically a TKO before half time....IMO....Hmmmm?

I don't know anything about UW-WW's team this year, but don't get TOO carried away with Willamette's first round victory.  WU basically played a flawless game last weekend and Oxy did not, but IMHO it was hardly a TKO at halftime.  Certainly congratulations and kudos are due for a nice win by the Bearcats, but I don't think anyone who saw the game would honestly say that it wasn't competitive - even with the "cushion" of WU's second quarter scoring.  The first and third quarters were tightly fought and the 4th quarter was a shootout.  I know, only the eventual score matters, but I thought your humble opinion needed a response.  ;)

Good luck to the Bearcats going forward.  If Oxy had to lose, I'd rather it be to another West coast team (even though the NCAA is still screwed up with those geographical first round pairings - which is a dead horse I have no intention of reviving).

Unless we're dealing with the Willamette/Oxy refs, in which case you'd be able to do the diddly game analysis three times, eventually get away with it, and still have 43.9 seconds left on the clock. :o

Yeah, that was weird BCPress. I almost left when WU was up by 3 TDs with a few minutes left and then stuck around for the heck of it. I think Oxy scored 2 TDs and WU 1 TD during that time, and the refs couldn't figure out what to do with the Oxy onside kick attempts and so just kept setting the ball down for redo after redo. That was strange stuff. Oh, and that "final few minutes" turned into a half hour.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Isn't it wonderful how the actions of the NCAA in regards to their football playoff pairings have melded the NWC / SCIAC boards together much the way PC did the Playoff Updates boards?

bbaddict

Yep, we're just one big happy Left Coast family waiting to beat the crap out of the Wisconsin team on Saturday!!

Hope the Bearcats don't disappoint Bobo -- he's afraid we're just a paper tiger -- more like a mean, scrappy rodent like creature -- that's a Bearcat!

And Foss, that was the longest 2 minutes at the end of the game that I've ever been to.  Especially the last 43.9 seconds!  Did anyone ever figure that out? If so, please explain.

They are pretty mean looking.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

BoBo

Wow, that's some major league-looking tail on that rodent creature!!  ;)  Looks like the thing my mom used to use to clean the dust off the pictures hanging on our wall!!  Hate to come across that thing climbing a tree!!  ;)  It'll probably rip the stuffing right out of me!!

There's nothing to explain. After Oxy scored to make it 49-33, the Tigers kept trying to win the game. With 44 seconds to go Oxy tried an onside kick from the 30 but was penalized for offside. They lined up again at the 25, but Oxy was called for delay of game. They lined up again at the 20 and Oxy recovered the onside kick. Oxy tried to move the ball downfield and along the way got called twice for false starts. The clock finally ran out. Game over.

Hey now...I didn't say anything about my honest opinion.....just my opinion :-\.... Besides my webcast kept cutting out 50 seconds out of every 60....

Been there and done that !!!
UWW comes to town with 63 players that are sporting National Championship Rings from beating the best of the best last year. They are battlefield tested via the biggest stage that there is in DIII. Yea I know that was then etc  etc.  I saw them up close and personal at the Catdome in 05.  They bring game, confidence, outstanding coaching, and experience.  No pucker factor here boys.

They are a SALTY crew.

Thats all--Bling Bling !! Peace Out

Well, coming out of the WIAC, (D3 football's #1 toughest conference in the country,)  a 9-1 team is still pretty good.  Without that one slip to UW-STP, they would, more than likely, have your #1 seed.
I am somewhat surprised at what seems to be a little over confidence on this board.  Don't get me wrong, Willamette appears to absolutely be the real deal this year, quite improved from the 4 win season last year and the 2 wins in 05 but despite the Hawks youth and inexperience, many players have seen what it takes to play in big games. I expect them to be ready.  Maybe they aren't, "as good as normal," but normal the last few years is being the reigning national champ and 2-time runner up.  I expected a drop off from that with the graduation of 24 seniors, 17 of them starters, but it remains to be seen just how far that drop off will be.   ;)
