You'll also be hearing from the game announcer "ANOTHER BEARCAT FIRST DOWN" each and every time they are able to move the ball ten yards. :D Gets a little ridiculous after awhile. :D

R&P, Fortunately he didn't do that against Oxy which was nice. However, he was saying that during the regular season. They must have made the decision to axe that during the playoffs.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Standings (Through 11/22)
School               WIAC       Overall
                         W-L          W-L
Whitewater*        6-1          10-1

Why on earth did UWW change its name to WhitewaterBarryBonds? That doesn't make any sense.

Whichever team wins, I wouldn't be surprised if it's Salem to Salem vs. Return to Salem this Saturday.

Are you saying there's something wrong with the PA Announcer getting the fans into the game, encouraging the home team?  First Downs are important, ya know?!

Fortunately, it probably won't matter because WU won't get that many first downs anyway.

Bleedpurple may be right.  WU only got 14 first downs against OXY and I'm sure UWW has a much better defense.  Then again, it's hard to get first downs with all those 50+ yard TD's...

I think I saw where WU opponents have actually gained more first downs that WU on the season...that's kind of hard to believe for a team that is undefeated at this time of year!!

I'd be absolutely petrified if that sort of thing happened to UWW.  I just don't see it happening...but I have been wrong on occasion... ;)

...is there a team on the west coast that can really play a lock down kind of defense? I don't think there is, or they might still be playing. Which is why I think UWW can be successful against a gimmick offense - no disrespect, but the fly is considered a gimmick, right?

I think the Warhawks have learned a little something about slowing down big play offenses over the last three years....especially last year when they slowed Mary Hardin Baylor down twice and Mt. Union

From the NCAA Championships rulebook:

5. Public Address Announcer-
The announcer should not be a play-by-play person, but announce pertinent game information and individual plays such as who carried the ball and who made the tackle. In addition, the announcer will not be a "cheerleader" for any team. The announcer will adhere to NCAA procedures rather than those that may have been in effect during the regular season

Looks like the NCAA made that decision for them...:-\

Rowan, Stevens Point, and LaCrosse will tell you that it's possible.

I think there are west coast teams with that kind of defense every year...too bad we don't always get represented.  In fact, the NWC conference champ had one of the best scoring defenses in the country in one of the better conferences in the country and as you know was left home last year.  Oh, and were a +27-ish (I can't remember the final number) in turnover margin.  Anyways, UWW is not as good as their faithful think.  Congrats, you beat a St. John's program that is down...very down IMO by their standards.  You have never seen the fly and even though it is "gimmicky" (I've said it numerous times), you will NOT stop it for 4 full quarters.  We'll see if your defense can continue to hold their heads up after numerous 50+ yard plays (it's going to happen).  Hope you got some Whitworth film since they were the only team all year to keep it in check for a good part of the game, just not quite disciplined enough to finish it.  I hope the UWW players are as cocky as their fans...they're in for a surprise this weekend at Salem West  ;D

BearcatPress,

I was looking for your weekly article at www.willamettecollegian.com but didn't see it. Is the Webmaster posting slowly again this week?

(509)Rat,

I don't mind UWW's fan being "cocky" because their team has backed it up for almost 4 consecutive years in a row.  These fans have seen the best talent in Division III a number of times so I don't think they're in for a shock when they see Willamette in person.

However, I agree that I don't think this Warhawk team is as flat out dangerous as the past three groups (especially on offense) but I still think they are good enough to come out west and win.  Willamette should be the favorite but not by much.

Forecast calls for 52 and sunny on Saturday so it should be a great day for football.

Well...if you like the announcer to sound like a carnival barker.... I guess you'll love it at Willamette.

I know you will, Blue. Then you can weigh in with your own opinion on the UWW defense. If you sit too close to the field, slip in ear plugs when WU has the ball. The sound of the hits will be deafening!

....It'll probably sound more like a peanut cracking or maybe a marshmallow hitting the floor.

Cocky ? Na. Confident, Yup. Giving Williamette their due here. They ran the table. Good. Did Williamette play in a Black and Blue type environment that UWW did. Na. Can UWW adjust to the "fly" Yup. Consider that for 3 years in a row they have seen every possible combination of D and O designed to take away thier strenghts and the results speak for themselves.  3 Staggs with a #1 ring do we need to remind you. Question really is can Williamette adjust to the pounding they will get from O and D lines for 60 minutes ? Guess we'll see on Saturday. In fact we have been studing game film from the Williamette practices to prove we are ready for the "Fly"
