TheHerst2and4....thanks for the link!  Saw a tweet on the Amherst football website wrt the blog.
The author of the article is a starter at Guard...believe it is at RG...and a GOOD one!   He was also a starter on his LA area HS team that got a great deal of press coverage.  His HS team was the top rated football team in California...big boys level and finished undefeated his senior year.  Confirmed to me by a father from the LA area, whose son is an Amherst teammate and classmate of the author.  Both players finished last season as starters on an undefeated Amherst team.

If Jim Ostendarp were still alive, he would figuratively pull down the grandstand of all this breathlessness.

Frank U....nice to hear from you in the period BEFORE pre- season :).  As usual, your post is brief and a little puzzling to me....which is not too unusual.
Anyway, hope you are well and continue to join the board again when the season rolls around.  I am reminded that you did have a " special" relationship with the DARP.  I only have memories of his early years at Amherst and his later years when his legend built and his abilities on the field in decline.....during the time of my two sons' time at Amherst.  I do remember when his son Jan set the record for the longest punt return...92 yards in 1981...for a TD.  It was in a Williams game.  Brought a big smile on my face at the time and even today.
I discussed that run with one of his daughters...we chatted in Salem Va... at a Final 4 MBB event.  She had come down from the Pioneer Valley for a spur of the moment break.

That punt return made the W/L difference in the game. At the wake for Jim I chided Jan on how he had broken Williams' heart that year.

With the season approaching Frank U once again awakens from his perennial summer hibernation....I'm sure he is prepping for his usual TV role  as the new coaching regime takes over in Williamstown. Will look forward to seeing Frank again this year on the weekly webcast of the Williams Football Show with his advance scouting reports. Good luck to the Ephs.

At the risk of being a boring nitpicker -  a summer retreat is estivation, not hibernation which is a winter retreat.

So that rumor you're as hungry as a bear is just a croc?

No crocs in college football (outside of footwear) but at least 2 sets of gators.

One week to go and the Nescac schools will open its door...followed , hopefully with a flood of info of the upcoming season.
The earlier posts by Vandy74 and Frank U.....two posters that post during the early morning hours... makes me feel like a truely " unbias" media political writer.  Two clever posters picking on posted words wrt meaning! :)
Another Amherst Tweet yesterday to cite that it is 11 days to start of "practice".  Rising Jr. QB Reese Foy who has the 11 number jersey is featured.  Returning QB starter Foy is small in physical size even for D3 but has D1 talent.  The native from Hawaii is actually a D1 transfer.  The other Hawaii native on the team, is also a D1 transfer..from the Ivies.  I have heard  that Foy may have influenced his island friend to join him at Amherst.
I am at the beach...avoiding getting sunstroke....and watching the Olympics and NFL pre- season games.  Love the Redskins ;D

Offensive player of year : Reece Foy QB - Amherst
Defensive player of year : Nate Leedy DB - Middlebury

nescac1

A few other contenders on offense: Sonny Puzzo, Trinity QB, Devin Carrillo, Wesleyan AP, Jared Lebowitz, Middlebury QB, Jack Hickey/Nick Kelly, Amherst RBs, Jaylen Berry, Wesleyan RB.  That group along with the guys already mentioned seem like the most talented offensive players on what should be strong teams in the league.  I think Brady and Lebowitz are the best bets overall.

Good start on the question of offensive and defensive POY.  Some naive comments on the subject.  Lumbercat's pick of Brady points to a RB...and Chance must be the top stats leader returning in the CAC.  However, Tufts was primarily a run oriented team on offense.  I must point out that Brady had a tough time against Amherst in the game in Medford...a lopsided Amherst win.
IslandTime's pick wrt Foy is a returning QB on an undefeated team.....runs and throws well and as needed do whatever to win on offense.  Other QBs may have better  passing stats or throwing talent like the Midd QB...but it will come down to wins and losses.
Amherst is loaded at RBs and there is the potential return of a Florida RB after a personal problem that has great talent.
Amherst's strength is its defense.  Therefore it is difficult to pick a DPOY for Amherst...other than the total defensive team if Amherst wins the Nescac again.
