If you believe, your answers comes to pass! :)
As others posted earlier, the offical announcement of a nine game season to start this Fall has been made and better yet...the schedule of the games are posted.
The Prez of Trinity made the announcement...being the "Head Honcho" among the Prezs this season. Very appropriate since Trinity is the reigning Champ.
Yes, Amherst opens with Bates at Pratt Field.  Amherst plays the Panthers, Bantams and the Cardinals at home.  Yes, Homecoming will be in October.  It is nice to play three of the toughest opponents at Pratt this coming season.
I.have scheduled my first live game in Clinton with my daughter's family.  May have to think about possible other trips to NE now.  Good thoughts!

Communication with a NESCAC AD indicated that the Presidents were sold on a 9th game mainly on the safety angle. Apparently lots of data to support the idea that injuries occur more in preseason and practices than in games. Obviously the 9th game eliminates a week of preseason and adds a week of game prep when coaches go to midseason live tackling limitations. Bowdoin opens at Williams on the 16th and hosts Middlebury for the first game on renovated Whittier Field.

Great news but a couple of thoughts.

Assume they will be rethinking the current 75 man roster limitation.

This change brings added expenses. Wondering if the schools who may have voted against the additional game will be reluctant to make a commitment to appropriately finance this escalation. Are the results of the vote known?

This will bring the topic of postseason play back to the forefront. I believe a 9 game schedule is required for postseason eligibility but I won't hold my breath on that one- I think the buck stops here.

Lumbercat, if the old rules apply, the vote must have been unanimous for it to be effective immediately.

lumbercat,

They were playing a scrimmage game anyway.  So there was travel and probably referee expense anyway.

Yes -- according to the NESCAC rules, the vote would have been unanimous. The outcome of this vote implies a firm and absolute commitment to the 9-game sschedule . . And there is no indication that the 75 limit on roster size was on the table . .

When you think about it, there is NO reason for a negative vote:  the season is not extended at all and the in-season contact rules mean that there is less contact overall during the same amount of time.  Any incremental cost of an extra game vs a scrimmage is insignificant.  Add all of the benefits of a round robin schedule and even a hardcore anti-football president would have a hard time voting against the proposal.  From what I heard, there is no sentiment at all for expanding the 75 man roster.

A sort of " peanut gallery" comment wrt any cost factors.  With few exceptions, if any, the Nescac schools have more than adequate Endownments to absorb the financial cost differences.  If there would be a cost increase, I'm sure that  each  school would be able to get a football alum/fan to cover the difference.
Heck, it took only a small number of football supporters to put up the cost of the new Pratt facilities...including 100K to move a century old tree less than 100 feet.

Now that the schedule is out my opinion (and I know what opinions are like, everybody has one) is that coaches should be watching lots of film and game planning for that first game. If each coach does that I think (another opinion) we'd see fewer lopsided opening day games.  Any thoughts?

Common refrain but nine regular season games was never a requirement for postseason eligibility.

Thanks, Pat. Playoffs will not happen for NESCAC football. While the 9 game season is a desirable outcome for all of us, we shouldn't take the Presidents' vote as a move to expand football within the conference. In a way, it's just a reclassification of the current philosophy of trading another league game for a poorly organized scrimmage system.

No playoffs, no roster expansion, and no out of conference games. Great news, but no change in policy or philosophy.
