Agree with all the above. I think Snyder just goes to the practice this wkd and that's it. Griffin (Tulane) is the heir apparent to Glennon (who may end up backing up Trubitsky in an ironic twist of fate) with Renfree (Duke/ATL) and Liufau (CO-Boulder) vying for the 3rd spot (if the Bucs keep 3 QBs).

Oftentimes teams bring in extra quarterbacks just to make sure all of their receiver invitees get someone to throw to them. Not saying this is the case although I know it has been in the past.

Snyder has NFL QB size, and that's certainly important. And apparently his throwing motion is just like Tom Brady's.
Pat, I'm trying to figure out if you said this in jest. I sure hope so.

Now I'm convinced. lol. I will say no more. I'll rooting for the kid, but all that other stuff is silly, and it has to make you wonder how such an article gets picked up.

PolarCat, one slight edit to your comment: Tebow wasn't below 50 percent until he made the NFL -- for his college career, he had a 66 percent completion percentage and an 88-16 TD-INT ratio (although granted that came against soft SEC competition, rather than NESCAC's defensive juggernauts).

PolarCat

Damn pesky facts.  I liked the story better my way.

Hoop Fanatic

Me too PolarCat. And snyder being compared to Brady? How bout them JUMBOs!!!!! ;)

Here is a link to the renderings for the renovations of Bowdoin's Whittier Field. It looks as though the building that will contain the locker rooms and other facilities will be next to the grand stand (on the side where the main gates are).

Thank you, quicksilver, both for this and on being on top of the situation.  I'm probably being overly sensitive as a Bowdoin football alum, but it has seemed to me that in the discussions of the benefits of this renovation, football seems to be almost an afterthought.  I guess I shouldn't care about the rationale behind this and just be happy that it's finally getting done.

I still wonder where the home side for football will be.

I am guessing that it makes sense to justify the expenditure based on the ability of the facility to fulfill a wide range of needs and to enhance the utility of the facility. . . . They are walking a fine line, however, as the Bowker Street neighbors have objected to more intense use of the space.  They have expressed worries about night-time noise and lights and more traffic so there likely will be an agreement with the neighbors to impose some limits on the hours of use, etc . .

I found some plans that described the grand stand side as the home side and the opposite side as the visitors's side. But I remain perplexed as to how that could be given the limited seating capacity of the grand stand!!

I'm guessing they needed to tone down the FB connection to sell it to the snowflakes.  As in "It's not just for football.  We can have ultimate Frisbee matches, poetry slams, Elizabeth Warren rallies and IVIES at the venue."  I loved the comment that maybe Women's Lacrosse might play there some day.  The girls and their families really have no interest in moving from Ryan Field (it's great for the parents and grandparents to be able to watch from inside Watson during the below-40-degree games - which was pretty much every one this season), so I saw this as a Title IX spin.

PolarCat...Enjoyed your bias wit as it followers my outlook a bit.  Plus K
If my hopes come about, Title IX maybe shrunk to it's original intent abit. :)
In any case, gald the Polarbears will be playing in new digs this Fall.  Need to beat those Ephs...soften them for the Wooly Bullies.

That's a great design for venerable Whittier. Cant wait to see the new facility....glad they preserved the historic grandstand. Kudos to Bowdoin.

It does look like the Black and White will switch sides but I just don't see why they will break such a great tradition. They cannot bequeath that grandstand to the visiting team. I've been a hostile visitor at Whittier since 1974 and I always admired that home side, It will never be the same as a visitor not sitting opposite that great grandstand which is unique to Bowdoin. If I was a Bowdoin guy I would be livid. It can't be a financial decision with that damn endowment. Cant see why the old Polar Bears should be supplanted from their home. The Black and White are making a mistake.

I'll say it again...Adam Walsh, Jim Lentz and every guy named Soule on the face of the earth is going nuts over this. Not to mention Bobcat friend and great Polar Bear Mike Linkovich who still bleeds black and white.

At the end of the day it will be a great facility but doesn't look like Bowdoin is planning this facility as carefully as they did with the new Sid Watson hockey facility in 2009 which was flawless. In some ways it looks like they may be rushing things here but maybe alumni pressure has prompted that.

At the end of the day a trip to Whittier will still be a great experience.

They are rushing things because they want the new field to be ready for the fall (and that was a condition of the lead donor's gift) while also trying to placate the neighbors. I have just learned that the locker room facilities are being moved from next to the grand stand to the opposite side of the field. That change seems to have been made in the past few days and was part of a commitment to the neighbors to minimize traffic on the Bowker Street side of the  facility. Access to the facility will be through the main gates and the Pine Street side (where the visitors' bleachers. now sit), with only emergency access from Bowker Street (the grand stand side of things).

Who will sit where remains a mystery. The Bowdoin submissions to the Brunswick planning department indicate that the sides will not be switched but they also say that there will be room for 500 in the grand stand and 1100 in the bleachers, which implies a switch.  So I remain puzzled as to exactly how things will work . .

thanks Quicksilver-
I'm an observer from afar but surprised at the approach to the whole thing....where are the Football alums?

Just hoping this it not the preliminary step in a move away from Football to Soccer and Lacrosse in breaking the old Football tradition. Bowdoin typically does these things flawlessly......this one looks different.  Geez- put the Turf in for 2017 but don't rush the other stuff..do it like Watson Arena.

PBPOP20

Make no mistake,  the whittier renovation is football driven.  The messaging is school driven.  Who cares.
Lead donor is a football alum, as are many of the other donors who are tired of the treatment of the program.
Coach Wells has done a fantastic job engaging w/ alum and deserves alot of the credit for this, regardless of what gets put out publicly.

lumbercat

No question coach Wells is doing a fine job.
I didn't realize how real the Football vs Non Football division seems to be at Bowdoin.
