Well stated Jumpshot-

With the Williams athletic legacy so firmly intact I imagine its only a matter of time before Ephs Football returns to past glory. Current HCOF has to be under an immense amount of pressure but I know the administration seems to have confidence in him.

Beginning this year most NESCAC schools have adopted the practice of disclosing information on their recruits.....even Amherst has partially joined the parade. Only Williams remains tight lipped on their recruits which leaves an open question relative to the Ephs admissions hierarchy and their willingness to work with the Football Program.

Lumbercat - My son is one of the Williams '21 football recruits and from our vantage point, all has been positive with the recruiting process and admissions.  While Williams has not published on twitter like some of the other schools as you mention, the coaching staff has linked all the new recruits together and the boys already have gotten organized on GroupMe.  All good.

My close friend is an Eph alum and involved with Eph Football stuff.  He says "Raymond is the man", and that everyone is unbelievably happy with the job he's doing.  I was told they had 27 to 28 recruits who were all told "if you've grit and determination, come to Williamstown..... you will be given a first look at starting".  The upperclassmen all know this, and NOONE is guaranteed a job:

Eph staff - given the rebuild job Raymond did at St Lawrence - know you don't go from 0-8 to 8-0 in a year..... but is 2-7 or 3-6 their expectation?  Likely so......

Raymond supposedly getting EVERYTHING within reason for which he's asked..... AD supposedly has been great.....

My buddy is very optimistic.... "shooting for (now) 6-3 in 2019!!!".

DiTS.... Welcome to the NESCAC.

The RB from Melrose has been one of the big names in MA High School football over the past 3 years.  Never seen him play but I'm sure his hudl highlights are online.

Dolan from Wellesley is a good player, but his older brother was a better HS player IMHO (who also attends Tufts I believe).

IslandTime

Just returned today from the South Florida Select Camp in Fort Lauderdale. Brought my 2nd son who will be a Junior this coming year as well as 2 other great players/students from his high school.

Amazing camp with literally the cream of the crop in academic/football playing Div 3 colleges. The only school from the NESCAC that wasn't represented by someone from the coaching staff was Wesleyan. Every other team was there. Very impressive showing. It was really interesting to hear the different 10 minute raps from each of the coaches when they spoke to the boys. We got to meet and speak with whomever we wanted during breaks in the drills over the the 3 day event.

Picked up some INTERESTING info on some schools I was  not lucky enough to visit when my older son went through the process. The overriding theme from the coaches was that they obviously felt their program was the one to come to, but that as long as those kids went to a NESCAC school, they would be setting themselves up for a great 4 years and more importantly a successful future.

One of the boys I brought will be a senior and is one of the most Electric players in Central Florida. He is a little undersized or would be a lock for Div 1. Was fun to see the coaches excited about meeting possible future players for their programs.

Great Weekend.

Please excuse me if this is repetitive news.
Heard today that Griffin Stalcup, the top Vermont high school QB of the last few years is headed to Bowdoin.
Kid has a big arm, is a better than average athlete and should be able to contribute immediately.
Great recruit for the PBs.  Kudos.

I hope Grif fares better than his older brother who had even greater accolades as a highly touted 6'5" QB coming into Middlebury......but I don't think he took a varsity snap for the Panthers.

Grif sounds like a fine prospect but the Polar Bears top QB recruit this year is Matt Marcantano from  Catholic Memorial, Ma.

Vermont high school football is suspect. Gotta look hard to find Vermont kids on a NESCAC, Patriot or Ivy rosters but wish the Stalcup kid the best at Bowdoin.

polbear73

Thanks, lumbercat.  I counted roughly 26 recruits in this year's Bowdoin class, a very large class for the Polar Bears.  Any idea as to the overall quality?

The CM quarterback from last year is a good player, but I do not see him starting at a NESCAC school anytime soon.  Good tough player with a gun of an arm, semi-athletic, but he is short and isn't athletic enough to make up for that height in my opinion.  He also likes to heave it up into traffic.  Did have a knee injury his junior year which may have effected him this year (He wore one or two braces).

lumbercat

Actually Bowdoin bringing in 3 QBs in their incoming class. I overlooked
Robert Deleon-Kollmer 6'3" 220 Poly Prep NY

quicksilver

Here are highlights of Matt Marcantano's senior year. He is described as 6-0 and 200 lbs so not super short. His arm looks good as does his scrambling. My biggest concern is that he tore his ACL at the beginning of his junior year and missed the entire season although he seems to be mobile . . .

polbear73

I agree with your assessment, quicksilver but the only thing I didn't like was a tendency to throw it up for grabs. There were several throws where he was the beneficiary of tall, athletic receivers who seemed to bail him out. He has a rocket for an arm and seems to move pretty well.

Last season's MC roster:  Bobby Ritter; So. DB, played in all 8 games 3 tackles 2 intercepts.  Jared Lebowitz; Jr. QB, played his sophomore high school season at South Burlington rewriting the state record books earning that prep school and later UNLV scholarship.  Stalcup's competition after a guy named Milano.  Tanner Contois; Jr. WR,  under, if not totally unappreciated outside VT.  Thank you.  Another So. Burlington HS product who was the teams' premier kickoff return man as a soph.  Injured early in the second quarter of game 1, 57 yards on three catches.  He might well have been Lebowitz' favorite target had he stayed healthy.  Add to the list Fr. DB Connor Quinn.  Ritter and Quinn, who took a gap year, played on Middlebury's High School's back-to-back undefeated state championship teams along with the team's QB Austin Robinson, who as an Fr. DB showed real promise playing in 5 games.  He didn't find MC to be a good fit and transferred.

When the younger Stalcup was a HS freshman he was already beginning to be considered by the locals as nearly his older brothers' equal.  My source, a Middlebury high school QB who went on to lead MC to it's most recent undefeated season in 1972, yeah, :P, it's been a loooong time.  His passing records are tame by today's standards, but they survived 30 years of competition.  Class of '74, Peter Mackey set them while playing with RBs Tom O' Conner and Phil Pope who graduated as the top 2 career rushers in program history.  Today they stand at #'s 3 and 5.  They remain the top two in career TDs.

I'm just having a bit of fun here guys. ;)  You're most likely aware that Ritter and Quinn's fathers are MC coaches.  So was Mackey's.  Robinson, albeit no longer at MC was another MUHS product with MC alum family connections.  Easy recruitment.  Lebowitz and Contois were both, at some point in their high school careers, South Burlington Rebels, like Middlebury's Tigers, consistently one of the state's top DI programs.  But the Stalcup brothers' comparison was not made in jest.  Will he be in the competitive mix for the Bowdoin QB job at any point in his career? Maybe not, but it would be unwise to base your opinion on his older brother's lack of the same success at Middlebury.

I've always got your back Cuz. ;)

Excitedly anticipating the first 9-game NESCAC season.  May the best team win it. 8-)
