I'm down with the opinions, the sarcasm, the preening predictions, and all the rest of the attitude on this page.  But what's with all the anger?  This would be a more enjoyable and readable place if people would just slightly chill out a bit.

So these comments go out to all of this Board's SJWs who think life is fair and everyone deserves a trophy:

1.  Mac Caputi's post Bowdoin football college career choices are totally irrelevant to this board when a poster makes a comment about how his career which... IMOO.... would not have existed at all as a QB if he weren't playing for daddy... And I'm a 3 War army veteran..... so I GET it... but one can't back up how great a QB the kid was - he wasn't - because he joined the Marines.

2.  Seniors and NESCAC Football.

So no one owes anyone anything... that's the current reality... including in the NESCAC.

So as a former NESCAC player and a former dad... what's wrong with cutting seniors?  If they aren't good enough to contribute, and are blocking the opportunity for a younger kid... well.... it's life!!! I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with cutting seniors.

Otherwise... frankly... why not give every kid in the NESCAC a ring and say "thanks for trying".

These posts about cutting seniors just remind me how SOFT society is these days.

And... frankly.... the solution is that, as a senior... you NEED to be better than that marginal Frosh.  If you aren't, you don't DESERVE to be on the team.

My two cents...  it's about EARNING it via talent and not DESERVING it via seniority.

I applaud EJ for doing what is best for the LJs.....

NFO

+K to NFO on the Caputi comment. We could not have said it better ourselves. Bottom line is he stunk and shame on Dad for not recruiting a better QB and putting his son in a position to fail. That's why Dave Caputi at age 60 is the offensive coordinator for Middlebury instead of HCOF of the Ephs or the Polar Bears.

No anger here.... 8-)

Hamilton should be on the lookout for Aaron Burr tomorrow in the form of EJ Mills...

Dayum NFO,
You wrote more about the seniors being cut than the actual sarcastic digress.  But after serving 3 wars you can do or say whatever the heck u please.  My Pops did 2 Wars....Infantry....is still with us and I love every last word he has to say.  Shall treat ya the same.

You should know by now folks get soft on this board.  Not much happens OUT THERE IN THEM STICKS ya know.

Week #2 ..... here we come!

Agreed

The cutting seniors criticism is being twisted. I'll try one more time. IMHO, seniors can be cut, but seniority should be a weighty consideration. And, that should hold true for starting and playing time as well. It's called loyalty.

Boy, some posters get up early and manage to vent and think!   Am a little down as I prepare to get "lost" in central NY state...Amherst has NO preview of the game posted :'(.  Gone are the days when there was even an audio broadcast of an upcoming game by the son of a poster, Hoya73.  FYI, the broadcaster is now the HBC of a D3 Basketball team.  Doing well after finally recruiting players taller than himself :).
My daughter again informs me she is wearing her LJ shirt...while I'm wearing a Mammonth logo on my shirt and dressed for warm weather!  Both teams have big squads in numbers and size.
Cornell is playing Yale in Ithaca this Sat.  Remember watching a Yale-Cornell game in the rain...with my son in law.  Turned out to be a somewhat Nescac affair.  Had my Amherst umbrella out.  Attracted two older couples to my right on the Yale side...visitor side.  One couple was Williams fans...the man is a classmate of Frank U!...a poster here.  To my left, a gathering turned out to be Amherst and Middlebury alums.  The older couple was watching their son...an assistant Yale FC.  The father is an Amherst grad.  The son and daughter-in-law are Midd alums.  Small world story.
Cornell has a weak football program.  It does have a "175 lb.?" Football program.  I remember the weight limit to be 155 lbs.  Harvard and the Military Academies still have such programs.  In my older brother's days at Harvard, the lower wgt class football program sent players up to the regular football program.

I hope you enjoy your time on the Hill at Hamilton. I would echo Hamgrand's culinary recommendations, and I'd add a couple. The Pub on campus is a lot of fun, Altieri's in downtown Clinton has good basic, non fancy fare, and for a sports bar atmosphere you can't beat Zeb's on Rt. 5 in New Hartford.
If you're in need of a cultural fix the Wellin Museum and the Kennedy Center for the Arts are a short stroll from Steuben Field. Also you might wish to take a picture with Mr. Hamilton in front of the Chapel. It should be a beautiful day in Clinton. Have fun!

Lumber cat: Thanks for your respect for Continental Nation. On a board that's too full of faux tough guys and poseurs, your posts are a welcome respite from the anger and hubris.

Remember: The older I get, the better I was!

Enjoy the games , everyone!

Someone please help the announcer for the Amherst v Hamilton game.  He's hilarious.  I'm guessing he's a volunteer who is rugby first and football second

The Colby announcer is giving tackles to guys that are injured and not dressed. No kidding. lol

Pretty even game, as expected, between Williams and Colby.  Colby's defensive line is worlds better than Bowdoin's and Maimaron hasn't had the time for the downfield throws that he had in the last game as the D-line has gotten a consistent strong push all game long.  Maimaron has continued to play well however under the circumstances.  Surprised Stola has no touches so far for the Ephs; instead, another frosh, Justin Nelson, has been the Ephs' main target on offense.  Williams needs to get Stola and Burke involved in the second half.

Colby has moved the ball well all day, with nice offensive balance, and the Ephs have allowed too many difficult third-and-long conversions (kudos to the oft-maligned Colby coaches for some good play calls in those situations), but Colby has hurt itself with several critical mistakes in key situations.  The Mules really should have more than 7 points heading into the half and the Ephs are fortunate to have a lead.

I'll miss the next half so I'll leave the analysis to the Colby folks!

Saw that Bowdoin score -- ouch.  Makes the Ephs' offensive performance in week one a little less exciting.  Still, with seven frosh on offense, they are doing as well as could possibly be expected.

I know everyone is watching the game that interests them most, but for any trivia buffs on the board the Midd-Bowdoin game is probably an historic one in the annals of NESCAC football.  The starting QB of each team is from VT.  Stalcup is from Manchester,VT and played at Burr & Burton Academy.  Lebowitz, out of Burlington, VT went to a California prep school when his goal was DI, but he did play and excel his freshman season playing for So. Burlington High.

Wow, Trinity 45-0 at half?!  Colby v Williams game is a good one.  Middlebury is gonna be a contender I'm telling ya.  My LJs don't have their QB situation figured out but I like the read option offense.  They didn't credit my son with that fumble recovery tho!?  Wth

Stalcup indeed looked very good in his first start.  Without much protection he looked fairly accurate and showed an ability to run as well.  He could very well be a good player for the PBears.

Lebowitz & Co. moved the ball at will against Bowdoin.
Watching this game reminded me of just how physical Wesleyan is.

That 45 point half by Trinity is a bit, umm, scary.

Williams beats Colby 24-7. The Jonathan Michaeles sh-t show continues at Colby. He should have been fired already. I'd fire over breakfast coffee tomorrow. These players and families deserve more. If you disagree you don't know sh-t about football, or coaching. Stop with the excuses already. Lack of coaching and leadership ist the problem. And the new OC s-cks as well. He had 2 winning seasons out of 10 at Catholic. That's why he got fired. Bring in some leaders and winners.
