Lumbercat don't forget the uproar caused by "those living in the sticks" or whether a placekicker was a football player or not lol.

Got a lot of burn from those discussions I'm sure  :)

lumbercat

Yes I forgot those but you are probably right.

Though, I think your personal best took place recently when the discussion of Jim Brrown was taking place and you said something like......I'll have to check with Jim next time I tee it up with him.

That was my favorite- heck, you're an LA guy- it's big time out there.

Personally I have no problem with your posts- in fact I enjoy reading them.

Lumbercat,

I met Mr Brown (as I call him) years ago in college.  His son went to USC at the same time and would throw parties at his Dad's home.  Of course, Jim was there picking up on the co-eds.

Fast forward to adulthood and golf.  Jim loved golf.  He would play most Sundays just outside of L.A. at a course called Montebello GC.  The group was called Funlovers.  They gambled of course and basically had a great time (unless Jim got pissed about something or towards someone).

I asked to play in his foursome once just so I could tell my Dad that I had played golf with one of the guys he held in high esteem.  Talk about intense.  That dude doesn't like anybody lol.  I purposely played lousy on the back 9 after shooting a 38 on the front because he was not happy I had won some of the money lol.

Anyways, yes, it can be celebrityville over here.  At that same golf course on Friday mornings I would see Smokey Robinson (always dressed in red), Fernando Valuenzela, Kenny Landreaux, Don Newcomb and others.  This course is just outside of LA but near Dodger stadium.

I don't have Jim Brown on my cell phone but my friend does.  So, if there's a question to ask him  ( which actually we did have a question for him regarding a 60's picture with Kareem and Ali) ......we have a lifeline to him.  He doesn't play golf anymore btw.

I think that football player versus kicker got a lot of us fired up though LOL.

I enjoy EVERYONE's takes the same.  It's amazing to hear the perspective of folks on this board who attended these nescac schools as far back as 5 or 6 decades.

take care

Can you ask Jim Brown what he thinks about the  Colby offensive playcalling?

I hear Jim Brown was being interviewed for the OC spot with Colby...

ColbyFootball

Jonny "Utes" Utah, Nescacman - Not even the great Jim Brown can save the Colby offense with Michaeles as HC. The offense has been predictable, boring and unproductive with 3 different OCs. That because the O mirrors Michaeles, it's a scared little offense.

Our early line is Amhurst -3. Over/under is 48. More to follow. We are 13-2 for the season picking games. We are thinking 27-24 or 24-21...something in that range.
[/quote]

Nescacman... I think that is a completely fair and accurate line. If this game is anything like last year or the past few years we are in for a treat. Always a tough trip to Amherst for the Pants. Most times it is a day trip and hard to get into a routine because it is the only day trip of the year. I recall 2013 when Midd rolled into Amherst in the brand new stadium and we got humbled 37-16 after a 3-0 start. We used that as motivation to finish the year and claim a share of the crown. I guess my point is Amherst should rightfully be favored in this game. I'm sure EJ Mills and co. will have his boys fired up playing in front of the home crowd after last year's upset. I hope that Ritter and co. will do the same. One thing Midd has is steadying experience on both sides of the ball. A few guys to keep an eye on for the Pants... Jackson, Becton, and especially Hopsicker will need to keep the young dbs of Midd focused and confident. The Midd defense should decide this game. They need to get off blocks and tackle. Turnover battle is huge. If this was a neutral site I favor Midd by 6 points. At Amherst, I still go with Midd in a 4 point game... but I admit going with my heart over my brain. All the respect to Amherst and wish you all the best. Hope both teams bring their A game and leave everything on the field.

Prediction: Midd 28-24 with a late score within 2 minutes for the win.

WCD-
Good story. Hope you will continue to weigh in with the West Coast perspective.

Colby crowd is hilarious!  That had me laughing.  I'm going watch an hour of Colby this weekend since the Amherst tilt is a later start.

Lumbercat, thanks.  You know I will  :)

We may see Kraft getting some reps at QB for the Blue and Gray.
O'Brien is their QB and it looks like Sparacio has been relegated to a "utility" role.
Boy they miss Ferrell. RB Sherwn has been the only ray of hope on the Mules O.
I would honestly consider a Wildcat look with Sparacio at the helm.

Congrats to Bobby Maimaron:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/high-schools/2017/10/04/duxbury-bobby-maimaron-named-nff-chapter-scholar-athlete/BH5YjGAf1FPpbhZWsmUHiJ/story.html

Quite an impressive honor, for an extremely impressive scholar-athlete.  Based on results to date, he should have a great four years -- both on and off the field -- ahead at Williams.

Speaking of Maimaron, he makes a HECK of a play at the 8:29 mark of these highlights.  The pocket immediately collapses around him, and despite a total jailbreak he evades several defenders to throw a very difficult TD pass.  He exhibited on that play in particular a ton of poise for a frosh QB in only his third game, playing against a pretty fearsome defense.  Now, on the other hand, he threw two INT's in two critical situations vs. Trinity, so he is still very much a work in progress.  But I think he will do big things once his protection, his chemistry with his young receivers, and his understanding of the speed of college defenders all continue to improve over time.  It might just take an off-season in the program to get there ...

Now you can give me you usual -K's. Which I find comical. You got me over the 50 number so you can push me over 100. Not losing any sleep.

At least "back in the day" when you posted under the name NewtoNESCAC there was some variety in your posts: some humor, some game day predictions, some commentary on other schools, all of which helped to balance out the Michaeles bashing.  But in your new persona, it seems like all you do is whine.  Sorry, but it gets tiring.

Polarcat - Not sure what you're talking about, but I just don't care what you have to say. So many other posters that have good stuff to read. So you'll get no further direct responses from me. Life's too short to waste time.

Very good analysis - thanks.  I think that the only way Amherst beats Middlebury is if Foy plays.   He is a difference maker in a game like this because of his speed and elusiveness.   Without him, I concur with your forecast.

Maimaron was impressive against Trinity. I think he was the best athlete on the field that day. He is elusive and has a great arm. I do not see how he does not win NESCAC offensive rookie of the year.
