Those Union teams were ok, but there were better teams 😂

Also not the point.

Ok yes, often times posters will go to other boards to discuss games, current issues involving football, past games, future games, and other things that might be considered "smack talk".

Jonny,   sorry if I wasn't clear... no intent at a shot.   What I meant was that the point of the discussion was the evaluation of the strength of NESCAC football vs. the rest of D3, and in particular the east...    Using 1 game from 1991 when Union was very strong and beat up a Hamilton team of unknown (to me at least) talent...  is not good evidence against the NESCAC...  That's all.  My response to you was in the vein...  while there may have been other very strong teams... that was not to the point of the conversation.

No issue with smack talk, I love.   I'm a Union alumni with a kid playing in the NESCAC, so I get it.

To be clear, I wasn't picking a random game to make the point that LL is stronger than NESCAC.  I was picking a particular game - the exact last time (that I know of) the two groups met on the field - to make that point that it's been ages since you could actually even test the question.  It just happened to be a crazy memorable game.

Also, I'm pretty sure Jonny Utah was simply reminding us Union guys that there was at least one beastlier team in '91, which was Ithaca.  (The Union-Ithaca playoff game that year was the best, and most heart-breaking, DIII game I ever saw.  We might (and I emphasize might) have been more talented, but that Ithaca squad played with as much heart as I've ever seen on the gridiron.  Those were your years, right JU?)

Ha, no they were not.

Bates AD Fein doing a phenomenal job with the head coach search- the list of candidates is impressive and it's not a regional thing confined to the northeast- ---- Didn't realize how valued a NESCAC Head Football Coach job is.

We saw the same thing during the Bowdoin search to replace Caputi. Over 100 candidates and most outside of the region. One wonders what to value more, familiarity with NESCAC, or the chance to bring in other viewpoints. One would think that the lower tier programs may want to break from the losing status quo in both CBB and league play by trying something different. In any case, good luck to Bates in finding the right coach.

It's quite telling that Bates had an alum available with HC experience in the nescac, who would have jumped at the job. But, they didn't appear to give him any consideration. Some of you probably attribute that to my previous negative factual posts (obvious sarcasm), which would give me far too much credit.

Michaeles has got to apply for the job to be considered.

Michaeles is reported to have taken an assistant's job at Bowdoin. Saying he has to apply to be considered is a given. But, the only way he would not apply for the job at Bates is if he was told privately not to bother. Spare himself the embarrassment. After Colby, Bates would be his dream job. So, I'm not sure what your point is.

lumbercat

He showed no interest in the job from the start.

From everything I've heard, I find that impossible to believe. And logic tells us that he was interested. But, I guess we will never know for sure.

And just a question.... honestly, I have no clue..   Are NESCAC posters going over to the liberty league or east region board and taking shots at their teams/leagues?  Or is the NESCAC board just lucky?

Ok yes, often times posters will go to other boards to discuss games, current issues involving football, past games, future games, and other things that might be considered "smack talk".

The data indicates otherwise.  I looked at every NESCAC-related poster who has posted on the last 5 pages.  I looked at each poster's last 15 posts anywhere on D3 Boards.com.  (I could have gone back farther, but had neither the time nor the interest to do so).  What the data shows:

  • 7 posters (polbear73, gridiron, lumbercat, ColbyFootball, PBPOP20, GovCat and Hamiltonian) have posted exclusive3ly on the NESCAC Football board.  They are not going to other conferences' boards and talking smack.
  • 6 more posters (middhoops, amh63, quicksilver, nescac1, Jefffan and yours truly) post in the boards for other sports (MBB, LAX, soccer, etc.) buit have not posted on any other region's football board.
  • Only 1 poster (Jonny Utah) has posted in another football board.
So the answer to PBPOP20's question appears to be: We may talk smack and fight among ourselves, but NESCAC fans tend to be too classy to do gratuitous drive-bys and insult others in their "homes".

Of course, anyone who is so inclined is welcome to do a deeper dive into the data and prove me wrong.

My comment was in regards to him asking if the NescafĂ© boards were lucky to have other posters.  I wanted to point out that Liberty League posters (and many others boards and posters) will go to other boards, mostly to talk d3 football and other issues I listed above.

Interesting discussions here wrt to a " topic" that barely touches on Nescac football. Yes it is the dead period wrt football in the conference.  Start of Summer...football camps start soon...coaching changes that will not impact next season much imho.  Yes, new recruits arrive in August...but with few exceptions, the recruits will not impact many games.  Yes, Williams' FY QB did make a great impact last year with his outstanding play that cost Amherst a CAC title of sorts.
Returned from my reunion and a visit to the Ithaca Finger Lakes afterwards.  Kept in touch with the CAC schools by watching a few late graduations...Bowdoin in wet weather...Williams in sunny weather...mainly to see some student-athletes graduate that have been a big pain in the butt to Amherst teams. >:(
PolarCat...will not miss your son's kicking and daughter's lax play for sure.  Will miss your posting here and elseware...Go Indians!  My class gifts included a hat that had Lord Jeff on it. :)
Been raining cats and dogs here in the D.C. area.  Ready to use some of my education to build a water vessel of sorts...warning of floods every day.  Oh well...back to my outdoor chores.
