Caught an interesting football text on the Hamilton football website today.  It cited that first practice is in an hour.  Twitter dated the 23rd of August.  Aware that Hamilton's  Orientation started last week....posted the point.  Aware that most other Nescac practices will begin next week.  Whst is up in NY state??  How many pre season practices can a Nescac football team have?  Hamilton seems to have a lot of assistant coaches listed.
Can any posters clarify?  Is their a number limit or time limit wrt football practices?  Just want the facts ;D

Amh63 -- the old NESCAC manual on my computer limits the number of football practice sessions before the first game (23) but does not include a hard date for the commencement of practices as it does for most other sports. I am unable to find a current NESCAC manual but am guessing that something like this rule is still in effect . .

Wow—another one who doesn't read very carefully and jumps to conclusions. I never mentioned a specific school, and only said that there's disproportionate emphasis (recently) on the weak sisters.

Nah, I read it perfectly well. You're complaining, and it's silly. There's not a disproportionate emphasis on anything, because there's no proper proportion the board should be following based on standings, or popularity, or anything else.

I have no particular access to info on any of the teams, but would like to learn more. Wish I did have something worthwhile to share, but that's not the case.

So do what all of us do when we want to learn something about a topic we have no existing knowledge of. Research it. This message board isn't the only place to find out information about these teams

Nicely stated by an Ithaca guy.....boy I remember those Bomber teams in the 70's!

And another esteemed poster weighs in...Quicksilver!

Thanks quicksilver for the info.  Mmmm, I may make an inquiry to the Nescac office and/or drop by when I'm in Amherst next.   Need a copy of the rules for all the sports.
The Bombers....what a nickname :).  Was in Bombers country just a week ago.  Hope the new generation do not get aroused by that "mascot".    Not every school can be identified by a color....like Crimson Tide...Big Red....Big Green?...the Long Grey Line.

I did some googling and found an on-line version of the 2017-18 NESCAC Manual. The football practice rules are as I described them except that the number of pre-season practice sessions permitted has been reduced from 23 to 17. So no uniform deadline for the commencement of NESCAC football practice but a strict limit on the number of practice sessions . .

This was the rationale for going to a 9 game schedule-the reduction in preseason practices means they go into the regular season restrictions on hitting faster. The expanded schedule was approved on safety concerns.

Thanks all for the "football practice inquiry".   Based on the Maine school posters :). ...I  deduce that because of the addition of a 9th game....so everybody plays everyone each season, yippee....the number of pre-season practices where hitting takes place has been reduced to 17.  This is for health reasons, etc., etc.  Nice thoughts but, imho, some confusing trends/conclusions.
Guess there will never be Nescac post season action.  More games mean less hitting practices...less pre season practices.   Will no hitting pre season practices be allowed?
I have never watched any recent Nescac football practices.  All three of my kids attended Amherst and I have watched some pre season practices.  I was my HS  football team manager and the teams played in several City Championship games.  Many of my close classmates played multisports and football....engineers, lawyers, doctors, financiers...all successful men.  I think I will discuss this topic with them at Homecoming if not sooner.

These are new Division III rules -- the NESCAC might limit them further, but Division III limited football preseason practice in the past year-plus. Also, the first day of football practice is not a hard date because it is dependent on when classes start at said institution, so it means each school has a calculation it has to go through.

Good article in the Boston Globe today about Matt Patricia as he enters his first year as Lions Head Coach. He reached out to EJ Mills for help in making the coaching transition and credits Mills for being a huge help in making the move to Head Coach.
Speaks volumes for Mills and confirms his stature as a great coach.

Does anybody know anything about the QB situation at Midd?  Is Merservey a lock with Liebowitz  gone or could there be a competition?

Hamiltonian

Can confirm that Hamilton practices began on the first day of classes, which was Thursday the 23rd.

Btw, just got back to the boards so don't know if this was already mentioned, but big loss on D for Continentals.  Tyler Hudson out for the season with torn ACL.  was gearing up for a huge year.

Hamiltonian

finally, recalling last year's opener in Medford.  Jumbos won in OT when QB fumbles INTO the end zone for score.  unless Tufts has improved considerably, a big chance for Hams playing this time at home.

Thats a shame. Tyler Hudson is one the very best defensive players in the league. He was outstanding as a DE in his first 2 years. Murray made a great move last year putting him at LB last year and he was dominant.
For my money maybe the best Defensive force in the league. Hate to see a kid sustain an injury like that especially in his senior year.
