ColbyFootball....interesting comment wrt QB Kraft.  Was scanning websites again and on the Colby Football site, the 2017 listed roster does NOT list Kraft.  Oh well, did not check the roster last season...so do not if his name was ever listed.
Interesting that on the Middlebury website.....the one that has the fewest "refresh" of sites in the conference....there is no mention of Move-in Day or related to the Class of 2022!?  Was just checking on the size of the undergraduate in coming class.

Harry was on the Colby team last year. I don't recall if he played any reps at QB, but he did hold on PATs and FGs. I'm told he is a very nice kid, but he just isn't a football player at the collegiate level. Not for lack of desire or effort. He's just very small (guessing 5'8") with less than average speed. He threw a nice ball in warm-ups, but at that size without speed you cannot make it because you're stuck as a pocket passer.  All of this aside, I wish the young man well on his return to Dartmouth.

Regarding Harry Kraft transfering back to Dartmouth, Colby's Coach Cosgrove signed a waiver to allow Kraft to go to Dartmouth without the mandated one year restriction on participation when moving from a D3 program to a D1. A nice gesture.

Thanks for this info Gridiron. I hadn't heard this. It's a real classy thing to do.

An interesting bit of info found on the Dartmouth football website....wrt QB Kraft.  He was a effective QB in prep school and had some good stats in his early years at the Big Green.  More interesting is his numbers on the JV team in scrimmages against Midd. and Williams.  My take on his days at Colby is that Colby did not have the OLine found at Dartmouth and therefore limited his playing time.  Two other bits of info that may have helped in his return to the Big Green lineup.  His father is on the Board of Trustees at Williams...Head?.  The AD at Dartmouth was a great MBB coach and AD at Williams.
Oh yes....the Big Green has 8 assistant coaches :). Maybe PolarCat can add something here :).  The Big Green is ranked 6th in the pre-season Ivy Poll.

Harry Kraft is a very nice young man, but he could not play QB at Colby even with a solid O line. So, I cannot see any scenario where he gets any time at Dartmouth, other than a blowout game where they want to get some players in there to give them the Ivy Football experience. That is not a knock on the young man. He worked hard, threw a decent pass although lacking arm strength, but he is in the area of 5'8" at best. And he had less than average speed and quickness. I suspect the young man will stay on the Dartmouth team and enjoy that experience, and wish him all the best. You're only in college once, I hope he just relaxes and enjoys it.

Good for him.  The Dartmouth degree carries more swag than a Colby degree, so if he's going to ride the bench somewhere, it might as well be in the Ivies.  Presumable he will go into the family business after graduation, so having D1 on his resume is a definite plus.

Classiest family in the NFL, so I mean no disrespect.  But looking at his Dartmouth Roster photo, I'm struck by how small his hands are for a QB.  Doug Flutie really proved short guys CAN play QB even in the NFL, but look at the difference in hand size.

New look at Bates

New game uniforms unveiled- final 75 man roster posted. A lot of excitement in Lewiston.

Polarcat--agree Ivies' degrees carry more weight than all NESCAC (great as they truly are)--sometimes due mostly to nationwide name recognition at least partially related to the size of the institutions and resulting alumni base.  But a NESCAC degree is still considered special by those in the know.  No one should say the education is necessarily better at the bigger universities though.

Hamiltonian

when I look at candidates for jobs, I do not take NESCAC degrees (with one or two exceptions) less seriously than Ivy degrees.  the differences are just too small and why a kid went to one place rather than another is just too unpredictable.  bottom line is:  NESCAC grads can compete with the Ivies on pretty even playing field. and, in fact, if they played football, there may be more reason to question the Ivy player's academics.

Good point Hamiltonian.  Saw some pics of the new Bates' uniforms...from UA.  Read that new helmet design will be revealed later.  Bates arrive on Pratt Field on the 15th of this month.  A number of the Bates' coaches will return "home" as they played at UMass-Amherst.  Wonder if the players will stay at the UMass Hotel on campus?
School starts today at Amherst....Convocation for FYs held last night.  Excited that I can watch some Nescac sporting events this week!  Did watch some D1 football games recently....actually skimmed over them....hopping to pick up some recent changes in rules.   Refs are quite sensitive to players making helmet hits...location of the hits, IMO.
It is going to be a scorcher here in the nation's capital.  Heat will be high in NE areas too.  Amherst has a social media video showing football players working out in the swimming pools :).

For anyone staying overnight at Amherst, you get a great bang for your buck at the UMass Hotel. I enjoyed it very much. But my must stay lodging of choice is the Lord Jeff Inn. My favorite in all of the nescac.

Former CAC Coach

True enough on the LJ  Inn...but Amherst travels to Lewiston to play bates on Sept. 15th

You are correct. So it should be saved for future reference. I have. I liked it that much. And, I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict in the Inn's restaurant. Can't ever forget mentioning food.
