CBB Update--

Spirited Garnet-Black scrimmage today at Bates- Coach Hall runs a high energy deal. Bates not big but they have some very serious speed- the transition continues. A lot of really different wrinkles in the Bates offense---don't buy the early Air Raid stuff---they've got an offense that is pretty complex- watched it today and Ive got to give the new OC a lot of credit---it's different, multiple looks, unpredictable--dont rule out trick plays.

Word out of Brunswick says 2 year starting QB Nelson has been moved to WR- Lafayette transfer McCrum looks like the guy at QB to be backed up by Vermont kid Stalcup- They say a closer competition than anticipated- McCrums arm and release not as good as thought.
Ex Colby coach Michaeles said to be looking out of sorts in early Bowdoin workouts with OC Viall firmly in control of the offense.

At Colby they are thin on the roster but Cosgrove is a big time coach that has everyone on board and believing- The little lefty has looked exceptionally good at QB under the close tutelage of Dave Dunn. Colby is lucky to have Dunn in the OC role- he is a Head Football Coach in waiting.....a whisker from getting the Bates job.

Yikes! None of this is good news for a team on a 17 game losing streak.

I am biting my tongue. Turning a new leaf (at least trying to).

ColbyFootball...to help you out, plus K....though I personally understand your earlier posts.
Lumbercat...concerned with your remark about Bates' speed.  Speed and quickness is very dangerous.
I have a slew of old football programs going back many years.  Scanning them a bit, I saw that many linemen were "smaller" in my eras of the 60's and 70's even.  A close football playing classmate was about the largest and the strongest...was a Beta, the football frat.  He was a three sport athlete...football, lax and wrestling. About 6'3" 245  plus with quickness.  We called him "moose" with affection.  As a freshman he was undefeated in NE in wrestling...tied the Springfield unlimited wrestler who was NE champ and undefeated in his final 3 years.  Moose who was a Math and physics major...like me...dropped wrestling later in order to study better.  Wrestling winded him up too long.  He became a NY based structural engineer after Cornell graduate school in one of the best schools..engineering physics.  Moose was a terror playing Lax, especially against UMass.Amherst. Moose was a NY boy with family connections to Cornell.  Digressing again into memories with a smile on my face.

I appreciate your kind gesture with the plus K, but I think the number differential of that ship has sailed. lol. Thankfully I stopped worrying about stuff like that when I was around 16 (long ago), preferring to rely on my mirror. But, I do appreciate your act of kindness.

I gave you one for restraint as well, ColbyFootball. Maybe you can return the favor later in the season as I'm getting the feeling that my restraint is going to be tested this year!

Biggest complaint the Bobcat players had when my son was there was the prior coaching staff "mailing it in" during the first half of the season and only getting uber serious about competing when the CBB rolled around.  When the Cats jumped out to an early lead against Midd in 2016 , or kicked a 43 yard FG to lead Wes at halftime last year, the coaches were the most surprised folks in the stadium.

I am 99.999% sure Coach Hall doesn't suffer from that affliction.
Polar Cat.... Chris Kempton here, Former Defensive Coordinator at abates and staff member from 2006-2016. Don't think I have ever posted on here but your  ridiculous comment had pissed me off enough to now do so! We didn't prepare seriously until the second half of the season??? Are you F#%^% kidding me.... quite the contrary!!! Never ONCE did I or ANY member of our staff not do anything but work our asses off everyday to put a less talented team than every team in the league except Colby, Bowdoin and Hamilton on the field PREPARED the best they could be. We beat Williams 4 years in a row Week 3!!!! I guess your theory has ZERO credibility! What a slap in the face to me and everyone on our staff who worked so hard to turn around Bates football! What I would like to do is come through this computer screen and knock your teeth out!! Thanks for all your support over the years... appreciate it!!

You weren't there for the 2016 or 2017 season.  Big change after you left, and not for the better.

But nice of you to stop by.  That was quite an introduction.

Hey -- maybe we didn't need the second-to-last sentence there, coach, huh? Assuming this is really you (and the IP address comes from the correct state, so that's a start), that threat isn't a great look for you.

Ya it's me Pat. Probably shouldn't have let my emotions get the best of me but struck a nerve how hard our STAFF worked for years and getting **** on. I'll be signing off. Best of luck to the Bobcats and all the NESCAC teams this year. Peace!

You were fine with me other than that one sentence, for what it's worth.

You can count on it. I'm free with the plus K's, and rarely give a minus. I save them for special people and posts.

I didn't comment on the "knock your teeth out" comment because I assumed that you were just really upset and venting. I certainly didn't take it literally, and don't think any less of you because of it. Some of these posters, one in particular, can bring that out in the best of us. Good luck again, Coach.

lumbercat

Yes no question Coach was venting. I have known him for several years and he's always carried himself with total class. I wouldn't read too much into that post. He's a stand up guy- believe me.
And by the way he's off to damn good start as a first year Head Coach in a great HS program down in Florida.
We hope he has some future Bobcats down there.
