Frank is a wise man.  Cosgrove certainly had as many obsticles or more to overcome than others and made progress where some others did not.

Probably won't be enough to get him that award but certainly his accomplishments  this first season should be acknowledged by those that follow the league closely.

Prediction: Cosgrove's time for COY will come.  Not to say he doesn't warrant consideration this year, he did the most with the least, but I do think at least a .500 record (and at least one win over someone other than CBB and Hamilton) is required to win the award.

Congratulations to the Colby White Mules on winning the CBB crown. The Mules deserve an immense amount of credit for their finish this year.

Gridiron-

Not sure what the disappointment is for Colby in the post season awards.

No sour grapes here, believe me, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Bates essentially accomplished the same thing for 5 years in a row and nobody said boo. Now its the Cosgrove show and Trinity and Amherst are said to be on notice.........hold the phone.

I realize there is a lot of positive momentum in Waterville, as there should be, but at the end of the day they beat the consensus worst Bates team in 20 years, a Bowdoin team that has been become an enigma and a decent Hamilton team in a cliffhanger to go 3-6.

Cosgrove is a proven great coach. His game plans against Bates in the snow and against Bowdoin were masterful. There should be a lot of optimism in Waterville and again congratulations to the Mules. But it's a 3-6 year.

And hats off to Greg Holt of the Fighting Jumbo's on finishing as the DPOTY runner-up....we thought Gooden deserved it but we suppose the coaches know better...  ???

We don't always agree, but I'm 100% with you here. Cosgrove did an excellent job for a first year, and winning the CBB was nice. But I always thought calculating success with winning the CBB was a failing, and part of what has hurt Colby in recent years. As I've said before, "The first step in being a champion is believing you can be a champion". I believe that's Cosgrove's mindset, at least I hope so. They have a lot of positives to sell to recruits at Colby, i.e. the new athletic center being built and in town residences that are part of a revitalization of that area (something that's been lacking. And, a young, supportive, energetic, terrific AD. So, the future looks bright.

Lumbercat-- no real disappointment at all here. Agree with all of your points. Things are certainly looking up in Waterville, and there's reason for lots of optimism, especially with young talent at QB.  Fortunately, Cosgrove recognized what he had and made what had ti have been a difficult decision moving the incumbent QB out. However, as we all know, until Colby is able to beat Wesleyan, Middlebury, Amherst or Trinity (the only four the Mules have not beaten in over ten seasons), no one will really take much notice. Now that Williams and Tufts are back beating them would add credibility as well.

I agree.  Cosgrove has accomplished more in his first season than a certain unnamed Maine college football coach has in four.

gridiron

Polarbear--not looking to pile on a coach or program  that is down, but your statement is factually correct.

And for those on the board who may be tired of all the  NESCAC Maine talk, at least we got off the contentious debate about Trinity!

amh63

Had a post for this football board.  A sort of "close out season discussion topic".  However, posted it on the basketball board!  In any case....see you'll next football season ;D.

Unfortunately, the QB observation has re-opened deep wounds for me. The previous HC had a 6'2" QB who could throw the crap out of the ball and literally run over people. Yet, he never gave him a real chance. And that former HC unceremoniously forced him to WR after the first game of senior year, never having played the position before in his entire life. That QB almost brought Colby back at Bates in 2016 when he came off the bench to start the second half throwing for 2 TDs, driving for a FG, and missing tying the game on a failed 2 pt conversion. Going 20-30 for 255 yards passing in that half. Lumbercat was likely at that game. Yet he was never handed the ball and told "you're my guy", as that former HC did with a great kid Jack O'Brien and Gabe Harringtom before him. I struggle wondering how different things may have been had Cosgrove been the HC. My sadness is not for me, but for my son who I'll always feel was short changed by the former HC. Short changed for 4 years he can never get back. So, if I sound bitter, that's why I am.
