Trin8-0....thanks for the info wrt Amherst.
Hawk196....welcome to the board.  Hope, I am not misreading your post....the Nescac has no formal Spring football practice.   Some football players wander off to play another sport...say baseball, track, etc :).

Can we get a list like this for the other NESCAC schools......Its almost sportless until spring training (baseball) and spring ball (football).....

League rules prohibit NESCAC schools from officially announcing incoming players until May 1. I coupled the list of Trinity commitments from word of mouth, news articles, and announcements made via the players' twitter accounts.

Last year the Bantams had an unusually large recruiting class (35) which, even by Trinity standards, was very good. The previous two years Trinity brought in just 21 freshman (which in terms of numbers is on par, and actually even a little below, the other top teams in the league), so I'm assuming there are another 5-10 Trin commits that we'll find out about over the next few months. I have heard there's a DL transfer coming from UAlbany but haven't been able to track down a name yet.

On an unrelated note, has anyone heard anything about the schedule changes being implemented for next season? I haven't yet seen any formal announcements from the league.

There's a vacant assistant coaching position at Trinity:
https://trincoll.peopleadmin.com/postings/1854

The description doesn't indicate, but based on the current staff listing it seems as though the job would be coaching RBs.

Steve Hashemi GA who coached RBs took a position at EKU.

According to the @TrinFootball twitter account Hashemi is now headed to Miami as an offenseive GA for the Canes. He spent under a week at EKU before getting the offer. College coaching is a crazy job.

Also, the transfer DL from UAlbany that I previously mentioned is:
Zach Verdi, DL, 6' 1", 260, Cheshire Academy, from Plantsville, CT - It looks like he also transferred in high school (from Loomis Chaffee in Windsor CT to Cheshire Academy) in 2017 to join his brother. After receiving interest from several FBS and FCS schools (including Ivies) both Verdi boys ended up at Albany; Zach did a redshirt year for the Danes in 2017, and didn't see the field as a freshman last year.

I'm new to this D3 thing. I guess they call it the Capt. practices (unofficial). Not into the NBA or NFL, so when my son's senior year season ended, withdrawals  :o . My other son (Ivy), their season ends early compared to other D1 programs. I'm sure NESCAC basketball is the type of b-ball I like (no showboating). So MLB has to carry through the spring/summer.

In the meantime, lets get me, "Let's go" and others up to speed on NESCAC football  ;D

OK, why are they in that order?

I know my son liked Tufts because of the size (5K students vs other NESCACs 1800 - 2400) and the fact that they were replacing 6 senior Olineman, so he can compete right away to earn a spot

Coach Civetti seems like a good guy

3.5 hours away is about as far away as we wanted (I'm spoiled, my other son's school is about 1hr+ away). The schools in Maine were tough coming from NJ, but I guess for a kid in the boston area those schools would be fine (distance wise)

letsgo!

I noticed the schedule on the NESCAC Football site. There is no times but the dates and the order is there. What changes have you heard of?

Thanks letsgo! Aside from the addition of the 9th game two years ago this is the first major schedule change in nearly three decades. When the NESCAC moved to a conference-only schedule (in 1991, I believe) the order of opponents was set and remained unchanged, with the exception of rotating the week 1 opponent every two years.

I'm a little torn on this issue as I've grown accustomed to the tradition but I suppose it makes sense and the traditional rivalries have maintained their proper place at the end of the season. Trinity at Tufts to open the 2019 season looks like an easy choice for NESCAC Game of the Week!

Trinity: Big, fast, strong, skilled.  If you've back-read any of the board you understand that much of the league believes their student athletes can be less MENSA than the rest.  The Trinity folks see that as sour grapes--probably some truth on both sides.  But it's pretty clear that graduation losses don't matter to this program, because their backups would probably be top tier in the league too.

Mamhoths: Seems like they can pick off middle caliber Ivy guys here and there because of the school's reputation.  They no longer use small-pox laden blankets on their opponents, but the tusks have proven at least as formidable.  Talent level close to Trinity.

Tufts Wes Williams middlebury:  In good years, with senior-dominated squads, these guys can compete with the two above, but most years they beat up on the bottom four and split with each other to finish between 5-4 and 7-2.  Five (?) years ago Tufts and Williams were bottom tier.  I think it had been a long bottom stay for the Jumbos, but (again, back-read if you're really interested) only a 5-7 year drought for Williams on the heels of a bad coaching hire.  In the case of the Ephs, they had traditionally been in the current Mamhoth role only moreso (I think?) until that point.  They appear to be headed back up as the relatively new coach gets settled in.  Middlebury is the Air Coryell of the league, usually fantastic QB though last year seemed unusual in that regard.  I'll leave it to others to assess Wes.

Hamilton:  They seem to show flashes of being ready to move up a tier but it's a big task to break out of those ruts.

CBB:  I think you're right that the Maine schools are basically fishing in the Mass. pond, while most of the other schools can get NY Metro or even PA athletes.  And I'm sure you have seen scuttlebutt here on the board that Colby hired the dumbest football mind in human history as their coach for a while and are still recovering.  I'm not so sure myself.  I think your remote location theory is the big factor for these guys--maybe some institutional commitment that comes and goes as well.

I guess it was three years ago that I was asking this type of question, and wondered why I didn't get much of an answer.  And I think the reason is that the program level matters way more than things like graduation losses in this league.  Movement between the tiers is a plodding process, but it can be done with the right coach and the right admissions office and of course the right talent on the field.  Good luck to your son.

Here is a listing on twitter of the Bowdoin FB coaching staff and their responsibilities under BJ Hammer. As you can see, Michaeles' responsibilities have been changed from QB/passing game to wide receivers (and other responsibilities TBD). Braden Layer, the new O coordinator hired from Allegheny, will be handling the QBs. No surprise there . .

Welcome to the board and good luck to your son except for when he lines up against the Panthers over the next four seasons.  I'm a lifelong NY Giants fan with a failing memory.  Which one of Phil Simms sons played his prep ball for Don Bosco?  Do you happen to know?

Thanks...LOL

It was Chris Simms that played at Don Bosco....here's a tidbit. Phil Simms' daughter married the son of Greg Toal   (ex-DBP head coach = G.O.A.T - 2 national highschool champs, no school has done 2)
