Just watched the women D3 crew races today.....yes Ncaa national championships.  The 1st boat finals had Bates, Wesleyan, and Hamilton entered.
Bates defended their national title...again!  First and 2nd boats!
Go Bobcats!
Posted here.....no other place to post :).  Nice to see Bates win a National Title...in a sport that it dominates.  Should Amherst begin to worry wrt football in a few years?

As long as your football stadium remains situated on dry land, I think you'll be all right.

Of course, the truth is that Williams women's rowing has won 9 national championships, including a stretch of 8 in a row.

On a separate topic, NESCAC fans, stay tuned for more news soon ....

Thanks for that information Jumpshot.
When Trinity won the Football title this year you should have gone back to reference the great Williams teams of the 60's and 70's. And don't forget that Williams Basketball D3 title in 2003....please.

On a current note I'd like to second AMH63's shout out to the Bates Women's Crew- congratulations to the Bobcats on another job well done.

The truth is......nobody here cares.

Nice job Bates!

Relax and take a deep breath Bobcats ....nothing intended against Bates .... simply one of many here who often improve amh63's accuracy....

What does Williams Womens rowing history have to do with AMH63's accuracy?

lumbercat, I think jumpshot was speaking to the claim that Bates "dominates" women's rowing ... which I'd say is an entirely fair statement by AMH, but I guess may be debatable (it most certainly does so currently, but not historically).

In all events, this has been an INCREDIBLE year across the broad for NESCAC athletics.  Seven team championships, the most since 2014-15:

https://www.nescac.com/championships/national_champions_team

And lots of other squads came VERY close (second place finishes in women's basketball by Bowdoin, men's lacrosse by Amherst, women's golf by Williams, women's soccer by Middlebury, field hockey by Tufts).

In addition to Bates in rowing, Williams and Tufts currently dominate D3 in women's and men's soccer, respectively, and Middlebury dominates in field hockey.  Amherst has long been dominant (or close to it) in women's basketball.  NESCAC collectively owns Division 3 women's team sport athletics, at this point, as it's very rare when you don't see at least one NESCAC team appearing in a championship game in a majority of women's team sports, and not uncommon to see two (e.g. soccer and field hockey, this year).  And when they make it to the title game, more often than not, they win.

Men's sports, while still collectively very strong (especially in soccer, lacrosse, and tennis, where NESCAC men's teams have been quite dominant over the past five years or so), are pretty far behind the women.

Right you are nescac1, of course ....

As I suggested the other day, NESCAC fans stay tuned for more news soon ....

Jumpshot....that's twice you hinted about Nescac news to come!   Is it possible that Williams won the Director's Trophy again!! ;D
For other posters...go to the Director's Trophy site.  Seems the final numbers will be out in a couple days.....John Hopkins Un. is very close to Williams in total points....the Ephs are in 1st Place now.  Middlebury, Amherst and Tufts are in the top along with WashU, etc.  Wesleyan is also in the top 25!
My take on the Nescac schools winning these days.....how good The Panthers and Cardinals are presently in Tennis :).  Not as dominant as Trinity has been in the sport of squash over the past 40-50 years!!

To amplify your point, in women's lacrosse, 5 of the elite eight and 3 of the final four teams were NESCAC squads.

MTJumpshot and NESCAC 1:

AMH63 said Bates dominates women rowing. With 3 straight titles he's totally accurate. Williams dominated in the past.

The Warriors dominate  the NBA. Celtics dominated iat one point the past.

I won't split hairs with you guys but no need take a shot at Amh63 on his comments- completely accurate.

Sports in D3 are over.  Graduations and Reunions are in the past.  Summer plans are in play now.
Reviewed the football awards on the conference page.  It hit me that Amherst lost a lot of first team and 2nd team players to graduation...on both the defensive and offensive sides.  While I expect the coaches will rebuild the team as to be competitive again.....I see that the Batams, Cardinals and Ephs all have many top players returning.  Brings "frown lines" to my face.
Best to think of family gatherings to come this Summer.

Williams College wins its 22nd out of 24 Directors' Cup with 12 teams in the top 10 nationally this year.

The Ephs further advance their stature as the world-wide recognized long-standing gold standard of excellence in academics and athletics in a year in which neither men's or women's tennis, nor women's rowing made the NCAA playoffs, and being forced to tally a zero in one of the required available slots as women's basketball ended at the end of the regular season.

Two national championships were won by women's soccer (3rd National Championship in past 4 years), and women's indoor track (despite having no indoor training facility due to renovations), bringing the total National Championships to 38.

High points earned by men's lacrosse (two regular season wins over lordjeffs), women's ice hockey (three wins over each lord jeffs and Middlebury), softball, golf, etc., and wins over Trinity in football, #1 ranked Whitman in men's basketball, as well as many individual academic and athletic awards.

Middlebury, a well-respected competitor for many years, finished 4th and Tufts 7th. Larger schools such as Johns Hopkins, Washington University (St. Louis, Emory, and University of Chicago also did well.

Winning this award is not a goal of Williams College, simply the end result of attracting outstanding student/athletes, superb coaches (full members of the faculty), and balanced, intelligent, and fair administration.
