Then this happened.

DC, I bet you would have 195 years rushing against the Bowdoin D!!!

No matter how bad the Bowdoin D is, I doubt he could rush for 195 years! ;D

I might have some eligibility remaining, but lugging the rock for nearly two centuries is a bit too much to ask, even for a somewhat fit sexagenarian like me. As I've said before, Our friend, Nescacdude, needs better sources, and evidently, a better editor.

Is there a New England D-3 College Football Poll this year and, if so, where would we find it?

noontime has one. I don't know the website off hand.

His rankings are awful, btw.

So the league that never gets ranked gets some press and it's "awful"?! Teams like Amherst and most of New England D3 programs would beg to differ.

On what conceivable basis could you rank NESCAC football teams?  Not playing in the postseason is one thing; not playing ANYONE outside the conference is quite another.  NESCAC football is just multi-school intramurals.  For football, I don't even consider them to be D3.  A total shame, since in most other sports they are nationally elite - if they did compete in football, I suspect they would do quite well, but apparently we shall never know.

Well back in the day (the day not being that long ago, btw), we used to play 7 games against the NESCAC and one out of conference game...Williams would play Union, Middlebury would play Norwich, Wes would play Coast Guard, etc...we are big supporters of going to a 10 game schedule (play the 9 league games plus one out of conference game) and the league champ plays in the D3 play-offs...there is a better chance of Greenland being the 51st state than that happening.  ;D

Is it really a poll? Doesn't seem like there are voters. It's probably actually a ranking -- a poll has to have votes.

Any one-person ranking is likely to have some things you can quibble with on it, I'm sure.

There are coaches and SIDs providing votes / input.

Ok, so are the thought on the Tufts vs Williams game? From my understanding Williams is banged up and I read a snr O-lineman left the team(and school??). As some might have figured out, I'm a Tufts fan and I didn't expect much (11 olineman and none of them started a game), but they did well against Trinity. depending on the next 2 games, things could be interesting in the NESCAC

The Tufts OL was very good last week. Frequently they drove DL 2 and 3 yards off the ball. What was puzzling to me what that the OC didn't take advantage of that. Instead of calling tunnel, run IZ!

Nobody want's to hear from me until Trinity loses a game then everyone is clamoring for a response, haha! ;D

Not true!  I always enjoy ypur posts.  And that was a classy shout out to Civeti.

Any update on Sachse?  I could only watch about a quarter of Boise States game Saturday (the blue turf was frying my retinas) and was surprised they were playing their other K.  Hoping Sachse isn't injured?

Probably not good timing for the Ephs with their injuries facing the tough Jumbo D...Maimaron and Stola are as good a QB/WR combo as there is in the NESCAC but if they don't show some sort of running game, Tufts will shut that down...Tufts O will score enough to win...we expect a close game but Tufts gets to 2-0...

The Williams senior o lineman did not leave school. He was a 2 year starter that never missed a game or practice in 3 years. He had some significant injuries over the past 2 years that caught up to him  and unfortunately is unable to play. It was a hell of a run since second grade. All good things come to an end. The great thing is he will end up with a Williams degree which is all that really matters  in the end of all of this. Go Ephs

No offense, on what basis do you call NESCAC football "multi school intramurals"?  I didn't play NESCAC football and don't have a kid who did either, so let's get "he's biased!"" concern off the table immediately.   Having said that, a high percentage of NESCAC football players were considering Ivies or Patriot League at the D1 end, and Centennial Conference or similar quality D3 conferences.   Same as for other sports.  While I am sure that every one of these kids would like to play for a national championship as their in-school peers do, they knew the rules coming in and are thrilled to play and get a great education.   Hardly intramurals ... not even close.

Well said Jeffan-

Bush league post from a guy who states later in his post that NESCAC athletics are elite but slams NESCAC football as intramural.

Some good games on Saturday- looking forward to a great weekend. Bates has their hands full with Joe Willie Jernigan and the Ritter aerial circus.  I wish your Purple and Gold well against the Blue and Brown, you may catch them in complacency following the biggest Jumbo upset in years.

Pat Coleman

From the part of intramural that means 'only playing among yourselves' ... it's hard to argue otherwise.

Obviously there's also a part of the word that implies that it is disorganized and the like ... which is easy to argue against.

ColbyFootball

I understand the earlier use of the term "intramural", and that it was being used in the context of ranking teams. So, I don't find it offensive at all.

Now on to more important matters, any chance Colby can pull an upset of Amherst? Amherst rarely impreses me, yet always has a way of winning. What about Hamilton, can they pick off Wes? I'm saying yes. I think they were looking past Bowdoin in the opener, although they may not realize it.

JEFFFAN

In answer to your question, Colbyfootball, yes I think that Colby has a good chance against Amherst this weekend.   You are correct that Amherst sort of bores fans to death with its style, yet wins more often that not, but I think that the RB position is weak with graduation and the overseas academic work of the returning workhorse and that the defense is very, very young.   They graduated a lot from a team that only lost to Trinity last year.  So ... yes, I think it could be a very close game and I would not be surprised if Colby won the game.

Amherst posters ... allegedly one of the frosh quarterbacks was very highly rated coming into college.  I know, I know, kiss of death.   Any idea whether it was the kid from Texas or the kid from Wellsley High School?  Just curious.
