Good list---agree with a lot of it. Who's winning the league though nescacman??? Wes?

Great question Spring!!!

We'll pick league champ, Little 3 champ, OPOTY, DPOTY, and even the winner of the Maine pillow fight in our pre-season picks opening week....stay tuned!!!

I think Nescacman's picks look good, but I also think Trinity finds a way to get to at least 7 wins.  I just think too much talent up and down the roster to not have a big bounce-back year.  And after years of being stacked at TB the 2019 squad had weird misfortune after misfortune at the position, which is a critical one for that offense.  I'm sure they brought in a few stars at the position to fix that issue.

The Mole

Bates and Amherst not allowing visiting spectators for Fall 2021 sports. Seems a bit draconian for football as the contests are outdoors.

I thought we were past this. Wow.

That's absolutely ridiculous...we will definitely test that...

Is the spectator thing confirmed?  I've seen nothing anywhere about that.

I'm generally very much in favor of being conservative but the odds of transmission in the fall, outdoors, in New England (basically likely to be the nadir of the epidemic nationally), in a setting in which it's really easy to socially distance, among folks who will nearly all be vaccinated is extremely low.  Just serves little purpose.  Even if they want to be uber cautious there are so many things they could do short of prohibiting spectators - space out seating (these stands are never packed, let's face it), require a negative test or proof of vaccination, require masks - this just seems like massive overkill.  People won't just do nothing for months and months more and we want to encourage people to be outdoors as much as possible so this type of policy is really counterproductive.

I don't want anyone to die, but I just checked NJ on Sunday and there was 2 deaths, not 900. Fully vaxxed, cool fresh N.E. air, plenty space all around. If they pull this BS this year, I *might* have to start looking into conspiracy theories  :o

Not to get political or whatever but I can't sit in the open air, but we can let hoards of untested "migrants" (or whatever) come across the Southern boarder, but mask me, vaxx me and I STILL CAN'T ENJOY LIFE

nescac1

Dude, migrants at the border have nothing to do with either NESCAC policies, nor more broadly the explosion of COVID in heavily unvaccinated portions of the country.  Literally a drop in the bucket relative to (still) tens of millions of unvaccinated and unmasked citizens surrounding them.  Please leave this board as one place where we don't have to respond to scapegoating of immigrants ...

But in all events, we can be thankful that in the northeast, and especially on NESCAC campuses, vaccination is enormously widespread, and will only be moreso a month from now, and let's hope NESCAC schools balance safety and quality of life in a thoughtful way - which includes encouraging rather than eliminating, outdoor gathering in spacious stadiums this fall.

BigKat

Very fair list of predictions. Lets not forget a STPOY as well Nescacman ;). Hearing 99 allowed on rosters this year-can anyone confirm that?

Thank you for this.

Folks: Stay out of the politics. Thanks.

The Mole

Supposed to be 90 but some flexibility granted. Game day holding to 76 dressed.

We are hearing no roster limits for NESCAC 2021/2022, at least for home games. Possible  limits for away games due to budgetary reasons.

We will also identify our pick for STPOY as well.

Probably a good time to detail changes as we understand them from the NESCAC ADs for sports in 2021/2022:

1. Fall sports start early and get an extra week of practice (will definitely improve the early season quality of play, particularly for football).
2. Spring sports will be allowed 15 practices in the Fall and will start on 3/1 instead of 3/15 (two weeks early). Part of the rationale here is they missed 2 full seasons.
3. Winter sports will start on 10/15 instead of 11/1 (two weeks early).
4. Larger rosters/no roster limits (depending on the sport and home v. away).
5. No masks for outdoor sports; may require masks for indoor sports.
6. No limitation on spectator attendance and tailgating although indoor sports may require masking (we are still trying to confirm the UBates/Lord Mammoth situation which would appear to be counter to this).

More to follow as we get more info...
