Really surprised (disappointed) to see the NESCAC's most notable football alumnus with this take on NFL COVID vaccinations:

"Your implication that the vaccination solves every problem...has not been substantiated. The number of players and coaches and staff members who have been infected with COVID after being vaccinated is a pretty high number. I wouldn't lose sight of that."
Bill Belichick

For the record the rate of positive tests among unvaccinated NFL personnel is 7 times higher than the rate of positive tests among vaccinated personnel.

Trin8-0.....could spar with you wrt to "notable" football alum of the Nescac.  Really believe the Patriot's HC makes those comments to get the news coverage.  Anyway....it is wet weather in the Nescac area.  Glad all football practices are on artificial surfaces.  Read today that Georgetown Un. In the D.C. area has a football team...again.  I note this since Amherst has a football coach that is a Georgetown alum.  Another week before Nescac sports will have game news vice new coach hires or retirements!

Pat Coleman

Georgetown was one of those D-I schools that had D-III football in the 80s and 90s and they have had a football program throughout.

Here are Bowdoin's rules for indoor and outdoor spectating. Proof of vaccination required to attend any event, whether indoors or outdoors. Children 12 and younger not allowed to attend indoor events but can attend outdoor events if masked. No tailgating, etc.

SpringSt7

Impressed by the number of comments concerning a possible ban on tailgating. Either I've been going to the wrong NESCAC football games my whole life or everyone is having secret tailgates behind my back!

Hawk196

Tufts has a place for tailgating on the tennis courts

At the risk of being accused by some of you of making sh*t up, we have checked with our sources on the rumored tailgate ban...

"...It is still being discussed with the NESCAC Presidents. I think they are most concerned with the team tailgates as they are trying to avoid large gatherings.  My thinking is that some NESCAC schools will say no to all tailgating but hoping we're not one of them..."

So there is the latest...we think this whole discussion is ridiculous...if you want to somehow control and limit this, require all tailgaters to be vaccinated...the death rate for vaccinated individuals in New York State is .003%...we'll take our chances to have a beer, eat some turducken, smoke a cigar and watch our favorite teams beat Hartford State with our friends...

From an email to Trinity coaches from AD Galbraith, dated 8/27:

"By agreement of the NESCAC Presidents, there will be no tailgating or pre-/post-game gatherings. Along with that, Trinity College will not be providing tents, tables or grills to groups for game-related gatherings and will discourage groups from using their own on campus. We will not be reserving campus spaces for gatherings – indoor or outdoor."

I agree with other posters that creative off-campus options will emerge and I hope that on campus gathering bans are reconsidered.

Here is our understanding of what is going on here:

There will be no college/university SPONSORED/RUN pre/post-game tailgating events. However, parents/alums/students tailgating in game parking areas will be "discouraged" from tailgating but allowed. There may be further restrictions based on vaccination status. For example, we heard today from one current league HCOF that his school may require either proof of full-vax or a negative PCR rapid test result within 72 hours of kick-off to attend the game/enter the parking lot. That seems reasonable to us. Masks may also be required.

Seems like over-kill/panic to us at this point, but it is what it is. We will work around whatever crazy rules the Presidents devise to ruin our Fall for a second straight year.

Any truth to the rumors that HCOF Hammer and the Polars got half their 2021 recruiting class from Bishop Sycamore???

amh63

Truth...rumors...Hammer does have to get new players from someplace!  Bowdoin has high academic standards and a historic low level of football wins.

lumbercat

I don't know of any NESCAC schools that don't have a designated tailgating area. Most schools typically post written rules and guidelines for tailgating on their websites.

What did I miss?

Good to see the band is back together again, with the regulars assuming their normal roles (though Lumber has raised his snarky sniping to even higher levels.  +1 for that).  I'm thrilled that amh63 is still with us, since he's older than Charlie Watts, but still going strong.  And HS 6-2, NESCACMAN and the rest of the band are still here?  Party on!

Heck, even the requisite Obnoxious Rookie Poster this year seems to have some talent, not like old whatshisname from LA who played with Ron Rivera - or was it Knute Rockne? - and knew more about everything than anyone, or that major Mule Tool who carried a grudge because the coach wouldn't start his golden boy son.  Ah, the memories.  Regardless of what happens on the gridiron, it's nice to be home.

PolarCat

PS: Pat Coleman, it's been 18 months since I last posted.  I'm thrilled to see you are still "watching" me because of past (imagined) transgressions - sort of like Tom Bodett leaving the light on for me.  I thought maybe you would get bored and expunge my my record, but seeing that you kept my place for me got me right in the feelz.
