Heard from a buddy close to the program that Tufts is continuing with the upgrades to their facility this year with a locker room expansion and renovation this summer. With a second phase hopefully the next summer that would hopefully include a new weightroom and training room next to the field as well as new stands and a renovation of the track. The Nescsc facility arms race is alive and well! Tufts already had the location but about times their facilities caught up.

Has anyone asked themselves why do they build the tracks around the football field. I think Williams did this the best on there renovations so the stands are right on the sidelines and they have a separate area for track and field. You are able to get close to the action rather than being so far away because of the track. I know it is a space thing but these schools have more than enough space.I understand Tufts cant because of their campus size but all these rural ones most certainly can.

Williams and Middlebury football venues are the best set ups in the league. Totally agree Charlie on the track thing.

Surprised Trinity When they did there stands and press box over did not relocate the track to field hockey so it is multi purpose for soccer , field hockey and track. It would have made more sense viewing wise for Lacrosse , Football and whatever else they play there. I also heard that Trinity was going to in there original plans to put locker rooms underneath the stands would have made sense bringing everything closer to field. As it stands they have long walk to locker room.

I think other than Wesleyan having the longest walk to their football field Trinity would be next.

Amherst set-up the WORST!!!  I hate the new field set-up for both football and lacrosse.   So sterile, so distant, so bad.

Agrred could they make the field any further away from the students. Boedoin is another some realyy nice looking old school stands and you are so far away from the field and then they install the polar bear the wrong way on the field.

No better spectator experience than Garcelon Field at Bates. No track and fans have the opportunity to stand along the fence line on the perimeter of the field which is closer to the field than any other facility in the league. Fans often pass on sitting in the stands because they can set up right along the fence. The closeness creates a great visual and audible experience- you are right in the game.
I'm biased but those features combined with the central setting on the Bates campus make it the best setting in the NESCAC. A lot like Andrus Field down in Birdland which admittedly is a couple of years older than Garcelon.

The worst spectator experience is Colby. A setback track borders the gridiron and then they use another 25 feet on a constructed berm embankment that pushes the stands back even further. Fans are significantly isolated from the field.....bring your binoculars or figure some way to finagle sideline access to get you inside that track and the other layers that push fans so far away from the field.

Totally agree and did you know that Bates is redoing there field , Press Box and adding a Jumbotron scoreboard. I heard that alumni pouring a great deal of money into the football program so hopefully in a few years this program will climb rankings

Yes, essentially true Nescacman......err, I mean Charlie.

There will be significant changes at Bates enacted by our guy Coyne. He is winning friends throughout the college community and with alums. He's doing it with his work ethic and sincerity. We've got a stand up guy in the HC job at Bates and everybody associated with the program is energized and thrilled.
Iv'e got to acknowledge the whole Wesleyan culture- always rooted for the Birds against Trinity anyway.

Some "strange posts" here in My humble opinion, in the off-season. Oh well.  Amherst's HC is not going anywhere.  Neither are the key associate coaches.  No inside info here...just my opinion.  Over the years, I have watched football games at Tufts, Wes, Wills,Trin...never at Midd or the Maine schools.  Amherst's football field/facilities allows fans to be close to the action.  Remember in the old days when fans could switch sides at the half.  The stands at Amherst were built to minimize the "track impact" on sight lines.  Heck, my son-in-law chooses to sit on the visitor side where he sees the on field action better.....he played football, yes.  Check out the write up on the facility design on the Amherst web sight.  Nice to see the other conference schools are improving their football facilities...for both the fans and players.

Been looking into some of the recruiting classes around the league. Bates and Tufts seem to be the only schools still filling out their classes, which makes sense given Bates new staff, and Tufts late start. Really impressed by the seemingly strong class the mules are bringing in. Williams brought in a couple of Nice players, including the giant OL from nobles school in MA. Amherst looks like they had another tough year. Has anybody been able to confirm that Tufts actually brought in a 3-star?

The kid from Nobles could be a force although injury plagued High School career. Huge upside if coached up ,  talented. Bates is still recruiting but not just filling up roster spots. I believe they understand that in a year or two they like all other schools will have to get back down to the 75 man roster which I heard could be expanded to 80. The motto up there is that they will play tough  regardless of wins and losses. I did not officially hear about the Tufts recruit. Rumors but nothing concrete. the only top star recruit I heard for the 2022 NESCAC class was the kid Trinity picked up an Under Armour selection who broke all time sack record in Massachusetts. Trinity keeps stockpiling.

Stars are a joke as we all know. And I don't know the kid ( so not fair for me to make any judgement there).....but I know the program very well..Nobles football kids are hardly a force anywhere;)

I watched the tape on the Trinity kid. Really not impressed. Convinced if he played in a better league, he wouldn't have looked nearly as good. I think Trinity did get a good player in that safety from the Hun School in NJ. Definitely agree about the Nobles kid.
He could be a hell of a player. Hard to find size like that with athleticism. Talking to coaches in the league, they just think he's very very raw but huge upside.
