The current roster size by team discussion is certainly though provoking.
5 teams in the 80s--Williams Amherst Bates Bowdoin Hamilton
3 over 100 Middlebury Trinity Tufts
2 in the 90s Colby Wesleyan

where those players hail from is also eye opening

Yes....interesting.   Good discussion fodder.

More great info provided by the Mole. For the record Bates roster is 92.

The Mole

I had them at 87, could've been updated

Thanks Mole.

Just to add on to your post...UBates trending towards the 90+ group based on 39 in their current FY group...heck, they'd be there already if they had a more robust junior class which currently numbers 9 student-athletes (thank you HCOF Malik).

I know it is too early to tell but am assuming this is the last year of 5 th year seniors who are getting the chance to complete their college football careers from the COVID season.

If and when the NESCAC institutes its roster limits how does medical redshirts affect these numbers if at all. Does anyone know if the schools have medical redshirts is that above the 75 man roster or whatever roster limits are set in place.

As we previously reported, roster limits will be back for 2025.

So just so I understand it correctly; No roster limits next season...but the season following, meaning a "hard 75" limit when camp starts in August of 2025...?

Correct...and just to be 100% accurate, the precise roster limit is 76, not 75 (for some reason)....like everything in this world, and in particular, the NESCAC, this is subject to change....from our understanding you had Hartford State/Wes/UBates/Tufts/MID on one side of the issue (no limit) vs. Lord Mammoths and Ephs on the other side of the issue (vehemently for going back to former limit)...this has been kicked sufficiently down the road that we could see some sort of compromise/change to the number by 2025 (perhaps 85?)....

Why would a Coach not want more players. I understand these schools and the difficult admissions standards. However if you find some student athletes that may not be top on your recruiting board would it not be prudent to at least develop them. If they can be admitted without help. Some of these kids potentially blossom in year two or three. If your not loosing any of your Band tips makes sense to have some volume  ,,percentages indicate that you may get a diamond in the ruff. Perhaps a kicker a speedy third down back or a potential pass rusher who knows.. If you do not loose any of your tips why not allow for the flexibility of an increased roster until roster limits kick in.

Charlie, not sure you fully understand how Admissions works in the NESCAC. This has little to do with the coaches. How many athletes these schools have is an institutional decision, not a decision that any of the HCOFs in this league are making. You don't think HCOF Raymond wants 100+ kids on his roster? Then he would have 20 QB's to choose from.  :)

Can't believe we are getting sucked into this conversation...

Mole, we did the analysis in the past and if we have some time, may do it again. There is a direct correlation between success on the field and roster diversity. Put it another way, the schools that do a better job of recruiting from outside of New England are generally winning more than those schools that are less geographically diverse. Frankly, New England HS football does not compare to NJ/PA/MD/CA/FL. Sorry if we offended anyone, but that is just a plain fact.

Based on our knowledge of the league and their rosters, our educated guess is that at least 3 of the 4 top teams in the league (MID, Wes, and Tufts) are the top 3 schools in geographic diversity. Hartford State might be next. Since HCOF Matt is following the Wes playbook, he is probably fifth but we would guess his diversity score has probably risen the most, year over year 2022 to 2023.

Sounds like you don't understand these schools and their admissions standards.

Or maybe doesn't understand rules, i.e. All NESCAC Football Programs will maintain rosters with a "maximum of 76 players"
How does anybody not get that.

Call me off base but I honestly think the guy is a plant. Just playing games, the whole Charlie persona is a gag, a joke. Nobody is that far out there time after time.

I am not out there i was asking if Medical redshirt guys are exempt fom roster limits and how it was handled in the past. No need to get crazy. No idea what other instances you are referring to.

Charlie,

Do we pay you enough for providing the comic relief on this board?

Although $0 is plenty, we would be willing to contribute to the "Charlie Comic Relief Fund"...
