Just remembered - in 1976 Scott Perry, a DB from Williams, was timed in 4.35/40 at the Bengals  post-draft camp - and repeated that performance on a number of subsequent occasions - fast but not blazing fast. Scott played in the NFL for 5 years - mostly at the Bengals.

are we talking football fast? call me crazy but i think ANYWHERE, nescac or otherwise, a 4.3 40 yard dash is pretty damn fast. maybe in the world of sprinting and the olympics and such a 4.3 isnt blazing, but if one looks annually at the fastest guys at the nfl combine, not many ever even approach a flat 4.3. id say in football talks, 4.3 is pretty blazing

How do you "just remember" something like that!!

I thought it made sense to talk about "blazing speed" within the football realm... you know, because this is a football board and all.

Its like someone on an NHL message board writing "Jason Blake [of the New York Islanders] has blazing speed", and my response being "No.  If you want to see blazing speed, watch the Olympics, those skaters are clearly faster."

I mean, I'd technically be correct in making that statement... for whatever its worth.

Dont be silly bant551.  You think those track guys are fast?  Watch Superman.  He goes around Earth and turns back time.  Now thats fast.  Still not sure if its blazing though.  Because then theres the flash.  If the flash has blazing speed, then superman certainly cant have it.  Im gonna say Superman has decent speed for a middle of the pack superhero, but not blazing like the flash.

If a player has doubts about playing college football heading into the summer before their freshman year I'd be very surprised if they make it even one full season. First off, I would imagine a player who isn't sure whether they want to play isn't working-out very hard. Also, once they are thrown into a college environment with classes and co-ed's it becomes infinately more difficult to commit yourself to a college level sport. My advice to this kid would be to stick to lacrosse or anything else he is going to be 100% committed to.

Here's a clip from a NC State sports web site regarding Hauschka signing with NC State.

"Hauschka finished with a 3.54 and a neuroscience degree from Middlebury, and he will enroll in a master's degree program in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at NC State. According to the Times Argus, Hauschka plans to pursue dentistry after his football career is completed.

Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management!?!?  Are you kidding me.  He had a 3.54 GPA from Midd ands he's studying Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management!!  Obviously, he's there to only play football and the sham of being a grad student is just that -- a sham.  What a joke...  This story is representative of everything that is wrong with D-1 athletics.

Don't hate the player.  You wouldn't do the same thing, if offered?  A lot of people take a year off before they start dental school.
