Another lame attempt to create an issue where there is none.  Don't get mad just because a football player gave you a wedgie, Poindexter... the guy is apparently going to medical school, and is now a part of the Midd alumni community (or will be).

Dare I say without knowing more about you that Midd gets more out of this guy having gone there for a year than your school gets from you being an alum?

I'm not really sure what happened to nescacnation.com, but the site is not up any more.  After a lull in activity, whoever was running the site posted something about how they were too busy with their real jobs, asking for help with new material.  Last time I checked, the site was taken down.

Never saw anything on nescacnation which was new, valuable or interesting.

He has not yet punted or kicked one ball in a NC State game - much less been offered an NFL contract - but apparently will have an opportunity to compete for playing time at NC State. It is doubted that he has received a grant-in-aid.

For what little it is worth - the North Carolina State football website lists 3 PKs and one P on the 2007 football roster (the texts behind the roster indicates that 2 of the PKs are also Ps), but he is not on the roster.

I was at the Trinity football golf outing yesterday and the coaching staff seemed very pleased with how recruiting went this year as well as the potenial for success this season.

There are 18 seniors returning (a big jump from only 8 last year) including 5 who are essentially 5th year seniors. Four of those five had season ending injuries at one point in the last four seasons and are either finishing up school in the fall or have enrolled in a masters program at Trinity.

To me that shows a strong committment by those kids and the Bants should have plenty of leadership. Trin also returns all of their starters on both the offensive and defensive lines, and they lose only one of four linebackers.

The Bants will need to solidify their secondary. They lose 3 starters to graduation and have two other key players coming off serious injuries. Offensively, they need to replace Leo at RB and Olenoski at WR but McGrath played very well at QB as the season progressed and will likely be asked to do more this year.

Trin also loses kicker Kevin Swiniarski (who holds several school records) and will have an open try-out for punters.

I think that the strength of the O-line will allow Trin to be dominant running the football with a RB by committee, and this will allow McGrath opportunities to create chemistry with a young recieving corps.

Similarly, their strength on the defensive front 7 will force teams into obvious passing situations that may negate their youth in the secondary, and allow that group to mature.

The season is still along ways away and Coach Devanney assured everyone that they are not looking past Colby, however I believe the NESCAC title will once again be determined in week 2 when Williams travels to Hartford to face a hungry Bantam squad.

Thanks for the update.  Trinity looks to be the pre-season favorite with so much experience returning, and getting Williams at home.  Williams' defense should be as strong as last year's unit, if not stronger, with tons of talent returning up front, and the Ephs always find good d-backs.  On offense, there are more question marks.  The huge receivers who dominated pretty much the entire league last year are gone, as is the all-league center.  Lucey is extremely accurate and athletic, but doesn't have a huge arm, and without the big wideouts causing mismatches down the field, the Ephs will have to rely a lot more on a ball control offense ... not nearly as explosive.  The Ephs could have a stronger running game with two all league o-linemen back as well as three experienced TB's.  Amherst, with possibly the two best TB's in the conference, will also be tough if they can find a QB.

Speaking of the Eph wideouts, congrats to Jon Drenckhan for being selected to play in the world championship of football (how selection process worked, I have no idea):

In other news, nice article on future Eph Jon Carroll, an impressive all-around student athlete who might fill some of the big receiver / tight end void.  The article also mentions a future Tufts QB, Jake Kastan.  Ohio football is the real deal (ask Amherst how Rauh is working out) so both of these guys could be solid players in NESCAC:

Did any of you all happen to catch former MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent taking a swipe at Williams players (and more specifically, DIII in general) on ESPN's 'Mike & Mike In the Morning' today?  If so, I was curious as to your thoughts.

I didn't hear his comments (any chance you could give us a summation). Also, not sure if you knew but Fay Vincent is a Williams alumnus (Class of '60) so any "swipes" made at Williams were probably made in good fun.

I didn't catch Vincent on Mike & Mike, either...but apparently he has suggested in writing that Williams players looked like they were on steroids.  (Not my opinion, don't shoot the messenger):
