There's no reason Hamilton can't field a competitive team - they had winning records in the mid-90's.  Either the coaching became incompetent or admissions made it tougher.  It would be nice to see the alma mater return to competitive play, as it's been embarrassing to watch them play for the last eight or nine years.

If Hamilton finds any offense whatsoever, they could be really tough.  They only gave up 10 points per game year last year (including only 15 to Williams, who mauled everyone else), and return the bulk of what was a very young defense, including four all conference players.   The current coach had some success at Hamilton in the past; I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4-4 season.

is a small roster typically a result of the staff or of admissions?

Admissions....the staff at Hamilton has all the credentials needed to recruit the student-athletes needed to be competitive in the NESCAC.  As said before by a few posts their D was good last year and Stetson (the Head Coach) has been every where from Hartwick (which has lead D3 in passing for much of the last 10 years or near the top) to UNH (he was David Ball's WRs coach).  They have made a commitment in hiring a good staff now they need a little help with admissions.

Stetson was also was the head coach at BU i(when they had a football team) n the 1980s.  I agree there is nothing preventing Ham from getting to .500+ this season and beyond, if they have the players.

Hamilton Fans: Does anyone know where former Head Coach Pter Alvanos is now coaching? I know his brother, but have not seen him since Pete was let go by Hamilton. Thanks.

Col. Partridge

I'm not a Hamilton fan, but a Google search turned up that a Peter Alvanos is a HS athletic director in New Hartford, NY:

Thanks Captain, that is probably him. I met him a few times when he was the Head Coach at Swarthmore prior to them dropping football. He seemed to be a very sincere person. I know he was turning their program around prior to the school dropping the sport. Not really sure how much surport he got from the administration at Hamilton. I know his brother told me he really struggled trying to get decent players into Hamilton with their strict addmissions.

That is precious.  Haven't seen those words in the same sentence before.  Thanks for the evening entertainment.

Interesting article on the Williams football page: "Top 100 things you didn't know about New England football" taken from the Hartford Courant

Also, the Bates football preview is up:

http://www.bates.edu/football.xml

While reading the preivew I felt confident that the Bobbies would surely improve on their 1-7 record, but then I started thinking... who will they beat? All of their winable games are on the road with the exception of Bowdoin. I know we have a few Bates fans out there... any of you think they can win more than 2 games in '07?

Top 100 list is interesting...#91 is wrong, though.  Fugett's half brother was Reginald Lewis, who ran a buyout firm --not Reggie Lewis the basketball player.

k+ for the courant article.

i always knew wpi and rpi were a bunch of tools ;)

4.  RPI and WPI have played every year since 1980 for the Transit Trophy. A transit is a tool to measure angles.

That is a great article....I like this one...

27 The Tufts mascot is Jumbo, after the featured elephant in P.T. Barnum's "Greatest Show on Earth." After Jumbo died in 1885, Barnum, a Tufts trustee, donated its hide, which later was used to construct a mounted replica on campus. A fire in 1975 destroyed it. However, some of Jumbo's ashes are in a jar that former athletic director Rocky Carzo presented to his successor Bill Gehling in 1999...

And another typo/mistake.....(Umass Lowell did not disband its team in 1991 it was at least 2003)
