the problem with removing the 75 cap limit is that schools with lower admissions standards, i.e. trinity would gain an even large advantage in recruiting.

also, though i would agree that nescac has made strides in promoting diversity it still has a ways to go. I would say both amherst and williams do a good job with promoting diversity but the rest of the schools have a ways to go. and as for the elitist conception, i would def say that exists though i dont think it has any racial indications but more of a socio economic one.

If they relationship and trust between schools is so tenuous that administrators believe this, what does that say about the nature of the NESCAC?  Why keep Trinity in the conference if the other administrators believe this.  And if whay you mean is that there'd be a race to the bottom, what does that say about the mission statements and beliefs at these institutions, who have always supposedly held themselves to a higher standard by not participating in the playoffs.

I ended up at an LL school, but at one point nearly transferred (accepted as a transfer to Wesleyan and Tufts), so I don't have the knowledge that you have.  At the same time, I find this statement dubious.

Me thinks the NESCAC is trying too hard to create an even playing field in athletics. Most other conferences use blanket statements such as "like minded institutions" and don't have half the bickering that the NESCAC seems to have. I also think that in the context of D3 athletics a lower SAT score isn't going to automatically equal higher athletic ability.

That being said, maybe they should ratchet it up a notch in this conference. How about you set a floor for SAT scores but you can admit students by whatever means the school prefers. If Mr. Low SAT doesn't graduate in 5 years you knock their roster cap down a player or two?

A little late to the conversation, but Nescacsfty: although I don't agree with everything that goes on at the school, I wouldn't lump Wesleyan in with the rest of the NESCAC in terms of being non-diverse.  Wesleyan embarked on a sometimes painful process of diversifying its campus starting in the mid 1960s when Amherst and Williams were very much lilly white enclaves.

I heard a rumor that Wesleyan fired head football coach Frank Hauser and former Yale and Amherst head coach Jack Siedlecki is the leading candidate to replace him.

Hauser's win percentage in 18 seasons at Wesleyan is .472 and he's gone 11-29 over the past 5 years. He has really struggled against Little Three rivals Williams and Amherst and in-state rival Trinity.  His career mark is 8-46 against those three schools with only 1 victory in the past 10 years (a 14-13 win over Amherst in 2002).

Again, this is just a rumor and is not yet confirmed. You hate to see a guy get fired but this probably should have happened a few years ago. Hopefully this is the first step for Wes getting back to respectability.

True, Hauser is gone and agree Trin 8-0 should have been a few years ago. Do not agree with the Siedlecki route as I know some people who played for him at Yale and Wes would be getting a clone of Hauser regarding temperment and style of coaching (not play calling). Aloof, distant, poor communication with coaches, not connected with the student athletes, etc.

You can't really argue with Siedlecki's results though.
His career collegiate head coaching record is 126-71-2.

He was also 20-11-1 in four seasons at Amherst after inheriting a team that had been 1-14-1 the two previous years.

Siedlecki also had a 36-11-1 mark in five campaigns as head football coach at WPI.

Don't get me wrong I believe it would still be a positive move for Wes and the NESCAC to have him in the league again! I have met him before and have a lot of respect for him as a Coach, just relaying some of the fallout of the Yale situation.

wescards

has anyone heard of any other candidates for the wesleyan job

ephoops

Wes would love to bring Whelan back to his alma mater but I don't see him leaving Williams...

Going from Williams HFC to Wesleyan HFC would  be trading Whirlaway for Old Dobbin.

I know it seems out there for a NESCAC, but I heard a couple NEFC coaches have expressed interest? any chance this is true?
