Jeez, still two weeks left before the first NESCAC game and we're already so desperate for football that we're literally discussing the weather. If this doesn't solidify the argument for a ninth game I don't know what will!  ;D

Well, nice to see some Trinity posters.  The Amherst fans were making me "scared".

After being reminded of the running back talent and the competition at  QB and the unfortunate loss to Williams last year, I feel pretty good.

Beyond that, the new recruiting class at Trinity has been described as, well, I shouldn't say.

If we hurt ourselves we can lose.  If we play as well as we can, I like our team.

Any views particularly from the Trinity fraternity on Civetti, the new coach at Tufts?  I'm hearing some very positive things coming out of the Jumbos camp so far.

Jay was a captain at Trinity my freshman year and I have only good things to say about him. His senior year was Chuck Priore's first year as head coach at Trinity (the third head coach in as many years) and there was a level of tension between the upperclassmen and the new staff. I think Priore's plan was to build for the future by playing freshmen and sophomores and it likely caused some resentment among the "old guard".

With that said, the leadership on the team didn't allow the discontent to turn into an all-out revolt. We were a very average football team that took some lumps but Priore's plan eventually paid huge dividends and it's a credit to Jay and the rest of that group of seniors for accepting a diminished role and allowing the new coach to build his program for sustained success.

For Jay's sake I hope Tufts does well enough this year for the interim tag to be removed from his title. I've said before that Tufts is the sleeping giant in this conference and Jay has the personality, and background to make that happen. When you consider its proximity to Boston and location within the rich NESCAC recruiting base of eastern Mass along with the significantly larger student body Tufts should be competing for the NESCAC title every year.

Wesleyan seems to have made a commitment to football and if Tufts is willing to allocate the same resources we may finally see some of that long awaited "NESCAC football parity".

Thanks...and agree with your comments about Tufts.  Now that Bacow is gone, we'll see if the the new prez/admin is willing to promote the program more than he did.  Seeing what Wes is committed to doing is great.

One would think that the inner city kids, so coveted by football coaches, would prefer schools such as Tufts, Wesleyan and Trinity vs. the uber-rural Williams, Amherst, Middlebury and the Maine schools.  If you buy into this theory, then yea,  Tufts, Wesleyan and Trinity could be on to something.

I wouldn't limit the allure of Boston to just the recruitment of city school athletes. It's a great college town with much more to offer than Hartford and certainly Middletown. I realize not all students want to attend college in an urban setting but I certainly think it's one of Tufts' biggest recruiting advantages.

Jay Civetti and I graduated from Trinity together.  He was a great lineman and a really nice guy.  Glad to hear he's landed the Tufts job and hope he goes 7-1. :)

Looks like Midd. has 24 FY players (only made a quick count) on its preliminary roster.  A number of NJ players and at least 3-4 QBs.
Amherst still has not put up its FY players on its website.  Probably this weekend after the "scrimmage".....assume it will be with Williams and that it will be held at Amherst...since the fields at Williams still are a little soggy....as stated on the William's website.
