Any feedback on any other scrimmages?????

They all ended in a gentlemenly tie.

Gentlemanliness is a paradigm from a phallocentric and chauvinist age that the NESCAC schools have striven do hard to fight. Instead, all scores were equal to show solidarity with our comrade workers, proving that indeed socialism as redefined through the feminist narrative in which stories can be shared for the benefit of the GLBTQ? Communities without fear of the reassertion of the heteronormative capitalist domination as modeled in football scores of yore.

Lewdog....with regards to scrimmages  in general and those among the upper tier teams in particular  this year...your comment is quite correct.
Gridiron...I feel your frustration to a degree.  Your posts have been most informative.  However, I do not expect much from any post on the Amherst/Williams scrimmage.  If Frank went to the scrimmage, there will be little significant to report.  At best, it will be a "vanilla" report because both coaches will not show much and will not put key players in any position to get hurt...will not show their cards.  At best it will allow the assessment of the younger players , etc.  Like ALDavis posted, the Trinity coach sat his key players.  QBs are not allowed to run or be hit....so it is assessment of some standard play execution...maybe the 3rd and 4th QBs.
There are a number of former players that have not posted yet...they are awaiting the rosters and the first games before posting....is my guess.  On the other hand Trinity 8-0 has left for a new job as you know.
I believe this year, the run for the "title" is a little more open.  I think you also expect it and seek MORE info.  Wesleyan is ready to make a title run.  Midd. still has the best QB, but has lost top receivers and key protective linemen.  Trinity has the best runners but must rebuild its offensive line and find a QB.  Both Amherst and Trinity had the best defenses and must rebuild them this year.  Williams still has talent but must find replacements for key skill players...WRs and QB.  Bates is still around to challenge .
Because each upper tier team needs to regroup, I feel their coaches are keeping team info closer to their chest this year.  In the case of Amherst,  its final roster  is "relative" late this year, IMHO.  Last year, there was a pre-season video....made after the first week of practice...that appeared.  I am hoping for one again but a video may not appear this year.  There was a posted pre-season video for soccer coming that was canceled after the second soccer game this season.  In Amherst's case, a new assistant SID came aboard relative late and previews of Fall teams have just been completed...with the exception of football.  I expect the preview of the season to come out next week just before the preview of the first game.  If you have checked....Williams, Trinity, Bowdoin and even Tufts have not yet posted final rosters and preseason previews.  Hamilton info is missing also.  It is a bad year for early info....but maybe we will have a most competative set of games this year!

Lewdog's and Rt Rev's comments remind me of the football gentlemen of Harvard:

Fight fiercely, Harvard!
Fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless we have the will.

Amh--I hear ya.  We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.  But I know the NESCAC football players on all teams are raring to go and get this season underway finally.

Not too long ago, the Boston globe put the nescac football standings in alphabetical order.  I thnk they changed that after Amherst looked so great all the time.

Pat Coleman

That was how the NESCAC presented its standings for years.

I wonder if the 75 man roster limit hurts the NESCAC teams in recruiting.
[/quote]It probably hurts a lot less than the 8 game limit.  The chance to play 10+ games draws players to other leagues.

My guess is that the academic standards set forth by NESCAC institutions hurts recruiting a bit more.

Not being in the playoffs is a major factor.  Don't discount this one bit.

gridiron

Agree all around.  Academic standards absolutely do affect recruiting (as they do for the Ivies and some Patriot League teams--and that is the way it should be).  However, the shortest schedule in the nation (eight games) combined with no playoffs DO turn some recruits away from the NESCAC.  There is no question about that.

The eight game concept is antiquated, and the only league that can get away with no playoffs without too much fallout is the Ivy (and, by the way, they DO have a ten game schedule--amazingly their academic standards are not compromised by doing so).

Apologies in advance to the "purists" out there, but as we've hashed about out on the board here before, the eight game limit has absolutely NOTHING to do with putting academics first.

Jump4joy....you are correct! I notice my mistake when I looked at the box score.  I watched on line and mistakenly heard names by the announcers.  Got caught up trying to figure out the new announcer...non student?...who at times seemed to hesitate with players' names.  Wondered if it was one of the D3 persons...the Trinity grad that does announcing part time for D3 sports.
We're you at the game?

That guy is Gordon Mann and he has been calling Delaware Valley College games for the past eight years or so.

Pat C. ...thanks for the input.   Seemed to recognize the voice but not the name at the time.
Apologize to the football posters here as my post was for the men's soccer board....the other "football".  It does show where my mind is today.

Pat Coleman

Gordon might have soccer when he was a student at Trinity but he isn't calling any now anywhere that I'm aware of. :)
