Amher63--I know you were looking for some background on the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin championship title.  Started in 1893 and originally included a fourth team (UMaine).

In the preview of the 125th meeting between Bowdoin and Colby (third longest in nation), some more info on the rivalry.

Looking to increase my STASH.
Happy to take advantage of AlDavis' statement spreads. :-)

Bates -11
Trinity + 14.5
Tufts +99

Staying away from the other two games ...

Good luck to all this week ... should be an interesting Saturday.

I'm with FourMore on those picks. I'll also take Bowdoin with the points and I think the Ephs will pull the upset to send Weston out in style.

If I was setting a line on the Trin-Wes game I think the Bants would be getting about 3. I'd be shocked if this game isn't very close in the fourth quarter with one or two plays determining the winner in the final few minutes. Trinity has squandered opportunities late in each of their last two games. We'll see Saturday if they've learned anything from those experiences.

Hopefully there's still some magic left in The Coop and the pressure of an undefeated season causes Wes to slip up. Either way I'm looking forward to seeing a massive crowd at Jessee-Miller Field and the various tailgating lots. They'll be honoring 20th anniversary of the undefeated 1993 Trinity team at halftime. Al, if you can't find me at the tailgate under the Trin flag try checking the '93 team tailgate.

May the best team win. Although, due to the indisputable truth in the cartoon below, Trinity may have already won!

And so refreshing!

NESCACGrad , I am sure you know what you are doing and you are already a screaming success by putting your son in a position to succeed and know that you don't need any recommendations from me an uneducated man but will post my exact list later tonite of order of your choices the way I see it , that's a strait 2- oooh- fastball Segway as easy as it gets here............4MoreBeers yes Tufts + 99 looks juicy and have some terd burglars teasing them up to + 105 , but Middlebury might really bring them behind the woodshed to put some stats out there out of reach.......Gridiron yes bro my music list is pretty good , and will grow as directed by the ebb and flow , but it is the way I sing to them . I sing with passion , I sing with meaning , they need to tighten up fo show , fo show , tru dat.....Coopster 8.0 I will look for you around 10:00 AM sharp as this Noon game start time this week crimps my life-style a little as I need to tabulate some stuff between 11:30 to Noon to keep my life in order....I'm going with the Suckers tonight Baylor and Over and Ducks and Over....this is a nice country America.

Thanks Gridiron for the info links.  Now I have a better more complete "picture" of the football historic landscape.

Thanks Gridiron for the info links.  Now I have a better more complete "picture" of the football historic landscape.
While I've had my favorites through the years (have a brother who played for the Panthers in the late 80's), only in the past several years have I really starting looking at the NESCAC league as a whole.  It is interesting in many ways.  While the league itself may not be that old (1971 and the football league 1992), the institutions within are, and there are lots of historic rivalries and subplots throughout.  The true student/athlete theme makes it all that much more intriguing, whatever allegiances one might have.  Whether admitted publicly or not, the schools do think of themselves as "Little Ivies" and attempt to model themselves after their big brothers--interesting to observe.

Make no mistake about it though, the students, alum, administrators, etc. of the CBB feel very much the same about their rivalry as do those participating in the Little Three.  One big difference though, is that there hasn't been one team shut out from a title for the past 40 plus years.  Easy to understand the passion surrounding Wesleyan right now.

Great interview with Trinity's, Devanney about all aspects of the showdown tomorrow with Wes. As someone who played for Jeff when he was an assistant I couldn't be happier that he's coaching the Bantams. He has a passion for Trinity and runs the program the right way in all aspects. He and his staff do an excellent job of recruiting. They develop players, provide resources for academic assistance and oversight. They run a first class alumni-player networking program. He's an excellent x's & o's guy, and he just flat out wins.

He's 100% accurate that last years team could have finished 6-2 and this years squad could have been 8-0 if not for a handful of plays. I expect tomorrow to be no different with one or two plays deciding the outcome. Can't. Wait.

NESCACGrad

Thanks for the support.  My son has been flirting with a few Div 1 (FCS) schools as well in his football recruiting, and has a few offers from non-scholarship schools, but he has finally come around to the view that the NESCAC schools get it right - where "student" comes before "athlete", and the post-graduation opportunities are there for those who pursue them.

As noted, I am a NESCAC grad (hint: the team was terrible when I was there in the mid-80s), and my son does not want to follow his old man.  While the NESCAC games will typically draw smaller crowds than many of his Friday night games (he attends a large public school in Northern Virginia), he really liked the vibe from the few NESCAC games he attended last month.

I must say, the NESCACs are all over the board when it comes to recruiting (in terms of approach and style).  Between us girls, therein may lie why Williams has have some difficulties since Whalen left.  No, Williams is not on our radar either.

Hopefully, we can "announce" the decision soon.  Too bad, NESCAC kids don't get any love on National Signing Day in February.

NESCACGrad, if you are inclined to elaborate re: Williams, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts ...

But for Bowdoin's inclusion, I would note that this correlates suspiciously closely (at least with regards to NESCAC schools) with football success  ;):

Haha, nice find nescac1!
Well, the article was published in 2011 when Bowdoin finished 4-4 and even Hamilton was 3-5. That doesn't explain why those "horny" Cardinals were 3-5, however.
