Fighting cards-
Are you the only NESCAC SID that participates on this board- you guys are doing a great job down there so no need for an in house shill.
You had a fine year, time to to shift over to Basketball and Hockey and let your fine 7-1 record stand.

Wait, the Wes SID spends time writing on fan message boards? That's embarrassing.

I worked for the Wes SID for five years and can fairly certainly say it's not him. Even in the unlikely event he knows these boards exist, I'd recognize his writing instantly, and this isn't his writing. File it under "Little Three title-induced 'booster' euphoria," perhaps...

FightingCards

Mr. Big "Sid Viscious" calling in.  Lots of board action today with the greatest game on Nescac earth over.  Thank you "Big Al" for taking the time to create this name.  Though a big Elvis Costello fan and you could have gone with "Riot Act" or "Man Out of Time", I gladly accept the name you have bestowed upon me.  In turn, you will be initiated at the annual FC Football Banquet-1st Sunday after the Super Bowl at the world headquarters of Connecticut- as an honorary member of the "Whalen Mafia" (WF).   If you want official entrance earlier, come to the 12/8 Patriots/Browns game and look for the "ARS" tents in the East Club lot.  The "WF" will be out in full force, and I will certainly be sporting the 2013 Little 3 Champions, 'We Did It!' Shirt.....let me know.

As for winter sports, the Fighting Cards do not expect to be dominant on any front.  If there is a sport I have great respect for the "Purple Land" in, it's Mens Basketball. But keep an eye on the FC Men's Basketball as we do have an outstanding coach-and he is actually a Bantam Alumnus. But once we move onto the Spring, watch out.  Men's lacrosse, baseball, softball should compete for the "Petite Trois".  All 3 won it last year in unexpected FC fashion.  Watch out for Amanda Belichick ("In Bill We Trust") in 3-4 years as the Women's lacrosse coach, but we don't expect a whole lot right away.

Food for thought:  Why is Conn College in the Nescac?  Are any of you even out there?

Can someone please explain to me what a "Karma Point" is?  Everyone has a +/- deal, and I have nothing.  Am I that boring or is there some type of conspiracy against the "WF"?

Much excitement in the Bowdoin world because the Hail Mary pass to win the Colby game with 3 seconds to go made # 3 on the ten plays of the day on ESPN's Sports Center last night.

I have video from the 10 yard line sideline (via my phone) and will post in the next day or two ...

Cool -- glad to hear you were that close to the action. All the video I've seen so far has been from midfield . . .Looking forward to seeing your video.

Can someone please explain to me what a "Karma Point" is?  Everyone has a +/- deal, and I have nothing.  Am I that boring or is there some type of conspiracy against the "WF"?

"Karma is a feature that shows the popularity of a certain member. To make it available, the administrator must activate it in core features. If members are allowed, they can choose to raise (Applaud) or lower (Smite) a person's karma. This is how a member's popularity is calculated."1

Conspiracy? Nah, people just have the opportunity to express their opinion about posts and posters. In some cases, (cough*AlDavis*cough) the people have spoken.

Are all members allowed to assign karma points?
Will I get negative karma for asking? ;-)

FightingCards...like your energy/passion in your post.  Will you be joining the BB board?...Cardinal fans are needed. :)
Since you are a Newbie as is ALDavis ...I will try to explain the Karma "thing" as best I can.  If you want to know why it is around or installed, you need to ask Pat C.  The creator of these forums.
First, one needs to have reached the level of 200 posts to be able to give positive.. "Applaud " Karma or negative.."Smite" Karma.  Until just this Fall, posters had only a single number with either a plus or minus sign.  Now we have both.  Other posters can smite you or applaud you for your posts or more likely leave you alone.
One other thing to note.  As you post on the various boards, you will be given post points.  However, you can ONLY get one post point per day on a board..whether you post ten times or one time per day.  If you post on seven different boards in a day, then you get seven post points.
As a reward for posting on this web site,  you are given a title based on your posting record.  To reach All-American status, you need to have  2000 post points, I believe.  I do not know how to reach the title of Frank U.
Another thing to be aware of...a poster who has the "power " ...to give plus or minus karma points...remember 200 point or higher level...can do so to another poster only ONCE in a 24 hour period.
I do not care for the karma thing at all and deduce it is a way by the upper powers to control posters.
Anyway, that is my understanding...if I error here, other posters can make the correction.
Hope to see you on the BB board.
Will not go there with the Conn College question.  Too many classmates have Conn connections :)

Thanks Amh63 ... good info on the karma and something I had no idea how it worked.
At my rate I'll hit that 200 post threshold in about 6 years ...

...ok , ok and ok.....glad to find out the Karma Point lowdown as I have asked many times , I am thankful for the Coleman guy to run this information board and moderators as all information is good information when you are addicted to information , all that is that and no disrespect , but if those are the rules then phuuck it bihhh  , I will go down in flames like the Red Baron with the most negative plus / minus Ratio this NESCAC has ever seen , so keep hitting me with those negative Karma Points as I go 31 - 1 and then some in the future.....no worries to the other Sport Boards as I won't go there and leave you alone to your Karma Point Fantasy Land as though I love all sports will just stay here for Football....I do see though 4MoreBeers throwing a No-No on his Karma Point Ratio though like the Detroit Tigers starting pitchers always up to the 5th Inning and much respect there and will deposit shortly and say hello to George Bush the elder for me please next time you see him and no comment on the Zumba Dancing Queen.........now , now I am in a good mood today as I rooted in a girls High School Basketball game last nite in Immokalee and yes we got the win and yes my daughter fouled out with swagg and then went to that Rag -Tag Casino and hit them up  a little at Black Jack on the way home and did talk to some serious Blue Chippers while in Immokalee as even though I don't represent or speak for Wesleyan the way I was dressed out these Blue-Chippers wanted Coach W's phone number to commit on the spot but told them Like Lee Corso "Not So Fast My Friend" as they will have to triple their ACT Score of 11 , so they will let me know if that happens......SID Vicious bro , I can not make it up for that Pats invite as the 9 strait weeks going up has tapped me some and will probably hang low until the EPIC Banquet , I will also hang low on the baseball and on the Honorary Proposed Mafia Advancement as would just want to be an Apprentice Associate for now as I have contributed nothing so far as so many parents volunteer their time and efforts and we have completely free-loaded so far even though just new on the scene and will wish to put my time in as others and move up the chain fairly without Blatant Disregard to others........as I have made other call outs to the unbelievable younger Coaches on the Staff I want to dedicate this call out to Coach Shea Dwyer who I always razz that his Record 255 rushing yard Game is going down and who does a Great Job Coaching the Running Backs and hopefully stays on to see one of his Guys Break his record next year and to Coach Justin Freres  who was a Blue-Chipper 2 Sport Captain in Football and Baseball and the type of Bo Jackson / Deion Sanders two Sport star we have always tried to be and who I hope his Hartford job gives him at least a $200,000 raise to keep him here another year as California is calling him back with Million Dollar Wesleyan Graduate Job offers.....and you would only be jealous as hell Amhurt or Williams if you saw the chicks lined up 20 deep after every game to take their turns talking to Coach Freres , as true dat fo sho , fo sho.

gridiron

Heard thru the old grapevine the official NESCAC football all-conference selections have been made.  Haven't seen anything posted.  Anyone out there know the deal???

lumbercat

All conference will probably be released Mon or Tues next week.

Nice post Al, like the way you handled that Pats invite, if I met you I may like you.

I now see that you are a fine asset to the whole Wesleyan booster effort which is commendable....the Whale built a great team on the field but his signature is on that program in every possible way.....infrastructure, fund raising, recruiting, parent/family/alumni relations.......hes a mini Belichek...... compliments  to the Cards.

The only criticism of the whale is totally peripheral......he screwed up the Red helmets and jerseys with the Black look...they look more like Bowdoin than Wesleyan but hear they will come back next year with a third jersey.......traditional Wesleyan Red like the 69 team....8-0.

Lewiston next year....in the land of the Garnet Bobcat we will meet, hell its less than a 2 hour trip for you, your contribution is Roast Beef Sanwiches from Kelly's, beyond that we have you you covered with a Maine lobster roll or two and your favorite Manhatten ....in the meantime I know that squash of yours remains on a swivel.

If you didn't see Dwyer, believe it from a neutral source its a profound understatement to say he was pretty damn good.

Bates recruiting the North Shore very, very hard so alert the Mafia that they are to stick to Ct, NY and NJ and we will look forward to the game next year at Garcelon field.

You guys have everybody back which is scary but that doesn't take into account the transfer factor....if you guys had those 4 guys that transferred to Miami, UCLA, UConn and Delaware you may have covered the spread. My money was on W this year but I'm positive at this point it was a letdown...the Red and Black were on such a high note, having accomplished so much, just couldn't bring their A game....and thats not a slam, it happens and isindicative of football at any level.

If Trinity was 7-0 you might have prevailed but a Trinity team with 2 losses is an angry, violent bunch. The Bants were sky high for the game to begin with but when the Cards showed up at Trinity on Saturday in the Trinity athletic facilities chanting "Our House, Our House" they turned a team that had some motivation issues this year into an unbeatable team that day......Gotta file that one under "Too much swagg"...........

Nescacman

Finally back from an extended vacation and caught up on my reading tonight....good to see a lot of post-season banter. Seems like we have picked up a few diehards here late season. The off-season should be fun leading into the 2014 NESCAC season.

A few comments/observations:

1. I am hard at work on my final season ranking and will be posting Sunday evening. Stay tuned for that.
2. I can vouch for "Fighting Cards" that he is not the Wes SID. Knowing both the Wes SID and Fighting Cards, they are not the same person although they do share many similarities: passion for Wes sports, both alums, same number of letters in the their first name, same religion, etc.
3. Yes, the all NESCAC picks have been made. Although I am not at liberty to disclose specifics,  to Panthernations credit, he did a good job at certain positions (like QB, which I do not agree with his or the Coaches choices) and a bad job at others (hint, hint...what team led the NESCAC in pass defense?). In any event, nice effort Panthernation. I more than anyone on this board appreciate your research and hard work.
4. I will go out on a limb right now and say the week #1 NESCAC GOTW will be Wesleyan at Middlebury (no matter who is at QB for the Panthers).
5. Surprised that there has been little or no commentary on the coaching situation in Ephland. They were a 2-6 team with at least 5-3 talent. I disagree with Frank that it it is the "Jimmy and Joe's" in this situation. There is an issue on the sideline and no program spending $20mm + on a new stadium in this league is going to tolerate 2-6 (or worse) for very long.
6. Coach W and his staff are going nowhere. In addition although some of those Card transfers were talented and would have helped the Cards on the field, my sources tell me that it was addition by subtraction in the locker room. Net, net...the Cards were better off without those kids and the replacements performed admirably or better than the transfers in some cases.
7. Although I like Bowdoin's Cleary, I still believe that Bowdoin is the worst offender (along with Williams) of padding defensive stats. As you will see, Cleary will get his due, however it is tough for me to get on-board with a player on a 3-5 team that was 7th in the league in total defense and 8th in the league in scoring defense.

More to come but wanted to give our viewers at least a taste.

AlDavis

OK NESCACMAn , was a little worried where you was at and thanks for the Cheeze -It for tonite and you should have been more honest with item #1 as you are also very hard at work making all those Stacks of High Society................Hey Lumbercat , yes its been great and overwhelming .....I have been part of Pop Warner teams where you can't even look at the Coaches let alone shake hands and have casual welcoming conversations , I did sing a song to myself and admit the Sound Defeat to a Still  BadAss Trinity Team but the Swagg moving forward I would not hinder , whether real or fabricated as it will keep them Cardinals in all conversations moving forward which is always good for business..........we love the Black Uniforms and have over heard the idea of an Alternate Uniform and another Night game next year if the other team agrees to it.........maybe will hook you up with that Kelly's Roast Beef Sandwich sooner than next October if I am up that way for a Baseball game as have not seen the schedule yet and would let you know if at one of the Maine Schools........so you kind of know I am up that way sometimes battling Terd Burglars and Bates has tapped many North Shore very nice players but I did move in 1996 and honestly have no sway up there with any Blue-Chippers , but if I did it is a Nice Country America............you have mentioned in the past you had friends so I will keep my head on a swivel when I meet you , but if you do have those friends I think you might have ,  they have tried before and have failed miserably every time to the point of severe embarrassment as they are dinosaurs and Not the Smartest Guy in any Room including Danvers State hospital if that is still open for business .....and to the point where it's so over for them up there up that way and free and clear and I am just getting started and they have done been sleeping at the wheel for over a decade now just like Williams now Sleeping at the Wheel .........I will have to be somewhat aware  and keen alert when that clown face bhuda bihhh wanna bee from North Andover gets out of jail........."Just Win Baby" fo real , fo real  tru dat on dat one and the benefits of  living in a Stand Your Ground State would love to stick his gutless stomach with my Sharpened Pitchfork from the Shed the next time he comes to my house with his Clown Crew.......... and Amhurt and Williams never underestimate , never take for granted , never pass judgement , and never give out Negative Karma Points because you have the power to do so over others........as you never know "He Him" comes for you.

frank uible

In assessing the relative value of contributions to winning football, coaching is analogous to Eddie Arcaro and player personnel to Whirlaway. This year the general quality of Williams' player personnel was way too close to that of Old Dobbin, where even coaching of an Arcaro quality could not have prevented the team at the finish from being far down the track as it actually turned out to be.
