IAMHUGE....nice to hear from you and read your post.  It caused me to make this "admission" related post.  I had been associated with Amherst Admissions around the DC area for over 25 years....hosting admission deans, interviewing students, setting up receptions, etc.  Over the decades, Deans move on, processes change but several basic "rules" remain...at least at Amherst...even if Administrative policies/pressure changes.  First, each year, the admission office is under pressure from departments as they build the next class.  Pressure from the music department, science departments, diversity of incoming students wrt to geographic origin, income, ethic background, etc.  With the tip system  in sports....led by an Amherst Dean and a Williams alum :)...the football situation should be more clear cut on a relative basis, imo.  Second critical element in selecting a new class is that the student will benefit from what the school has to offer...to basically enjoy his experience over 4 years.  Yes, it basically is fitting the student within his class and at Amherst.  That is the hope of the professionals....waste of time if students leave...all around.  The numbers...grades, test scores, activities, etc. are looked at.  It does no good if a student spends all his time to pass his courses...will not have a chance to get the full college experience.  Football and other sports takes time, effort on the players part.
My point with all the preamble stuff above, is that Bowdoin's admission office blew it wrt to your son.  With the number of tips in football being the same, what admission office would not accept an available LINEMAN candidate.  Bowdoin's record does not point to a overabundance of good lineman.  If my memory serves me here, and in support of Nescacman's players criteria......how can the P'Bears admission office turn down a talented New Jersey Lineman!

Bantsfan

It has been my experience that talented or not, Linemen are often overlooked if they are not  monstrous.  It doesn't matter how many accolades you rack up in High school, if you are not tall enough or heavy enough, coaches just aren't that interested!  I think they would rather take the huge guys who aren't that good in the hopes of turning them into what they want over time.  Too much time looking at the paperwork and not enough at the field if you ask me!

Not the best showing for the Buff n' Blue

Wow...thanks hamfan88. Must have been tough to forward that one to the Board. A few comments:

1. Whoever developed the defensive game plan for the Conts should be fired. They made Colby look like the Patriots (or at least Trinity).
2. Who was the Ham QB throwing the ball to the entire game (besides the Colby D)? Was he confused by the jersey colors? Really bad.
3. I am officially off of the Cont bandwagon for 2014. We like HC Murray, but he needs a few recruiting classes to get some of his own horses. Ham fans should look towards 2016 for some degree of respectability to set in for the Conts.

Man, that's a long bus ride home after that blow out.  Wonder how many Continentals wish they were playing Ultimate Frisbee instead.

Here's betting that Murray gets his team off the deck and playing well at home against Williams ... the Colby game was the first time all season Hamilton has not been competitive ... no excuses but to take a shot at a coach .. should be fired for defensive game plan ... is pathetic and comes from a hack that knows zero about football ... yeah, and perhaps the Seattle Seahawks DC should get tossed for their two straight losses ... Hamilton is a program in transition and there are going to be ups and downs before Murray gets some consistency from a team that was competitive in one game last season ... suggestion ... if you are going to take personal shots at people then have some actual facts to back it up ... Colby played well, Hamilton played poorly ... period ... it happens every week on every level ...

Lighten up junior...it's all in good fun. Obviously, the comment was tongue in cheek. No one has been a bigger supporter of the boys in buff 'n blue then yours truly this year. The only coach that I make (serious) disparaging comments about is the HCOF himself (that's Coach K in Williamstown for the uneducated)...he has very much earned those comments after going 3-10 over the last 2 years at the easiest place to recruit this side of Tuscaloosa.

Go Continentals!

I agree that Hamilton will be a stronger team this week.  Let's not forget that there are bright spots in their line-up!  Take a look at how well Hopsicker and Pastorella have played.  And, all season long, the receiver group has been outstanding...just get the ball close to them and they are very dangerous!  Hamilton's O-line has been doing a really good job but that does not show up very well when the QB holds on to the ball far too long.  The new Coach has been delivering an exciting brand of football and the players will get better and will deliver victories!

Last night watched the NFL game in Pittsburg for a while.  The steelers looked out of sync and there was a focus on the HC who had got Penn State back on track in the depressing post- Paterno period....was a long time fan of Paterno down to the plain players uniforms.  Anyway, within three minutes to go to the half, the Steelers exploded for three TDs.  One was set up by a DL that tipped a ball and caught it after bouncing off a player's shoulder.  Wild happenings in a short time in a professional game.  In short, as much as coaches try to prepare their players, things happen and game plans need to be adjusted. Due to weather, injuries and players making outstanding plays and yes poor decisions.
I have to agree with the uniform comment.  I caught a video of the Hamilton and Colby game and saw the similar colors.  Yes, for the Purple schools, there is effort to make a bigger contrast in uniforms for game day.  Maye Amherst will use its Black Uniforms for its game under the lights.  I digress.
Been thinking a little long term about Hamilton.  In two seasons, if the conf. Doesn't go to a 9 game schedule, Hamilton should have a competative team when Amherst meets them again.  In the past, when Amherst faced Bates, history pointed to an Amherst win.  After watching Bates beat Williams the past few years, I was worried this season before the Bates game....and posted my concern.

Junior? I wish I was a junior ... I would agree that Williams should be able to recruit anyone considering it is the top school in the country which includes the Ivy biggies ...

gridiron

Not necessarily defending the HCOF at Williams, however, as most on this board are aware, certain schools in the NESCAC adhere more rigidly to the prescribed bands than do others.  Some schools find ways to make exceptions while others do not.  Highly recruited athletes whose board scores and/or grades fall outside of the low bands know which schools may make exceptions and which schools would be a waste of time to pursue (see earlier poster about experience with Bowdoin).

Like it or not, exceptions are made at some schools.  While it may seem counter-intuitive, in some cases schools that make exceptions are schools with more stringent academic requirements.  It really comes down to how much support the football program garners with the administration and admissions to pursue exceptions.

Presently, there are other nescac board cites in baseball, men and women soccer, lacrosse, and a big one in men's basketball and also. Women basketball.  Others in other sites.  Posters here also go to sites dealing with rankings , etc.
Hope that answers your question...Banfan.
