Does anyone know if Hamilton recruited a big time QB? What about Williams? Bowdoin? All 3 seem to have a major need at the position. Especially Hamilton.

My resident Polar Bear has been doing some very unscientific research on the Bowdoin Class of 2019 Facebook page.  She reports that so far the freshman class includes a bunch of soccer players, hockey players (both field and ice), track stars and one OL / DL, but no one who appears to be a QB.

Of course,

  • There may be one or more QB's who didn't get in ED1;
  • There may be one or more QB's who got in ED1, but don't use Facebook
  • There may be one or more stud QB's who are transferring
  • The coaches may be completely confident in the backup QB who got a token number of snaps this year, so didn't recruit

But so far it looks like Football is the Sport Forgotten By Admissions in Brunswick.

Maybe one could allow Bowdoin to name a head football coach before making these kinds of comments about what they do or don't do.

Seriously, lighten up.  It's the Hot Stove League; everyone here knows we are all just flapping our gums with conjecture to pass the time till the season starts.

The Bowdoin 2019 Facebook page is out there in the public domain; it's not like North Korean hackers broke into the Admissions Department's secret data files. And the New-Wonder-Coach-Who-Hasn't-Yet-Been-Named obviously had nothing to do with the students who have already been accepted ED1.  No need to be such a buzz kill.

Noah Nelson, a quarterback from Falmouth, Me committed to play at Bowdoin.

BTW you can't have it both ways.  Not really sporting for you to spill the beans on recruits, then criticize others who join in the conversation.  (And yes, it appears he's a QB, so it's a good thing my Polar Bear is not planning a career as a CIA data analyst).

polbear73

But you just pointed out that only one football lineman has been accepted and that :"Football is the Sport Forgotten by Admissions in Brunswick"-where is the buzz that I supposedly killed?

polbear73

As you said, it was public information-the Portland Press Herald.  No spilling any beans.

Williams brought in at least one QB ED, Jaelon Moaney: https://new.berecruited.com/athletes/1427668

I have no idea, however, whether he is considered "big time."  Williams could be in at least solid shape at QB for awhile -- Austin Lommen played pretty well last year, notwithstanding the team's record, and should improve in his second year as a starter since he had to quickly learn the system as a transfer.  He is listed as a rising senior but has two years of eligibility left; not sure if he plans to use them, but I'm hopeful that he will.  Mark Pomella, a very solid change-of-pace back-up, also returns for his senior year.  The Ephs definitely do need some young players to develop at that position, as they have really struggled to find QB prospects since the start of the Kelton coaching era.  To me, the biggest immediate needs for the Ephs is RB (obviously) and help along both lines of scrimmage.

Williams need for a running back must follow the need for linemen on both sides, imo.  Amherst had a big back that converted to a DL his senior year...saw he was not going to play on the offensive side.  Amherst has sometimes moved DLs to the offensive side.....in any case, any new back will struggle without a solid offensive line...QBs too.  I know I am preaching somewhat to the choir and smarter football posters.
Me, wonder if Amherst's QB from Hawaii impacts the team as the Heisman Trophy Winner did for the Ducks....dreaming a little here.

Moaney certainly speaks extemporaneously better than the typical Williams student, and my SWAG is that he may be a QB for the 2017 season but in the meantime will use his speed and agility to make a major contribution at DB/WR.

PolarCat

And it doesn't hurt to have a WR that knows how to throw the football.  Just ask the Ravens.   ;D

Thanks, Frank.  Glad Moaney might be able to make an impact in some way.  Since you say 2017, is the assumption that Lomen is likely to play two more years?  As you've said, I believe, in the past, Williams could really use more speed all over the field (Darren Hartwell was the last explosively-fast guy we had on offense it seems), so any frosh who are genuinely quick need to be on the field, right away, in some capacity.  Who do you think will shoulder the load at TB next year?

frank uible

Key question, the answer to which I haven't the  foggiest.

NewtoNescac

Williams needs a QB that can get them back to respectability, if not championship status. Football is a QB driven sport. What the QB does, or does not do, will impact not only the offense, but the defense, as well. Witness, Colby last year.

Newton: Welcome to this board. New blood is appreciated. Nonetheless you are in error. Williams' QB position is well stocked for 2015.
