Bowdoin coaching update...

According to our sources, JB Wells will be named the next head coach of the Bowdoin Polar Bears. Good luck to Coach Wells and welcome to the NESCAC.

If Wells is their choice, it actually will be "Welcome back" to NESCAC.  Wells is a Trinity grad, and held assistant coaching positions in the past at both Bates and Trinity.

If Wells is their choice, it's interesting that Bowdoin picked another lineman / line coach to succeed Caputi, as the Polar Bear OL and DL were both pretty solid. . . .

Caputi was a college quarterback (Middlebury) and was the o coordinator at Williams before coming to Bowdoin.

You are 100% correct PolarCat, I should have said welcome back to Coach Wells. We wish him all the luck in the world. We think he'll need it since the current landscape at Bowdoin is certainly much different than what he was used to at Trinity and probably much different than Bates.

Once upon a time I knew that.  Not sure why I think of Dave as a lineman.  Thanks for setting the record straight.

Wesleyan picks up the Walter Camp Connecticut Player of the Year in QB Mark Piccirillo. He was a 3 year starter and broke all the Shelton High School passing records previously held by former UConn and current NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky.

I've seen him play and he was tremendous. I predict this will be very good news for Wes and bad news for the rest of the NESCAC.

If Wells is indeed named the new HC at Bowdoin that will make a total of 3 former Bantams running NESCAC football programs: Devanney '92 (Trin)
Civetti '01 (Tufts)
Wells '92 (Bowdoin)

Also worthy of note, the newly named GM of the New York Jets Mike Maccagnan is a former Trin football player (graduated in 1990).
NESCAC CHAMPIONS: 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023
UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

If Wells is named by Bowdoin, is he keeping the current assistants? If not, who may join him?

Nescacman

Expect the Bowdoin announcement today? Players have been informed. We hear Coach Wells has told the players he like to keep as many of the old staff around as possible (why not, with the success they have had). Next up...The announcement from Wes. More on the Williams situation to follow.

NewtoNescac

That was a funny jab at Bowdoin's success.

Also,  what's up with the Williams situation? I hope they're not changing coaches at this late time of year. And, I think Kelton is a nice guy and would like to see him have one more short to succeed.

Thanks for the Wesleyan and Williams updates and the early call on the new Bowdoin HC.
Believe you speculated in recent past about Bates, anything new there?

Great video Quicksilver.  He certainly speaks better than 49ers coach Jim Tomsula (anyone see that disaster of a press conference?)

I have watch Bowdoin teams in almost every sport for years now and never understood how the Football teams they fielded were so average.  I wonder how their admission situation stacks up with tother teams in the conference that they are regularly beating in other sports.

NewtoNescac

Nescacman has really gotten my attention mentioning Williams. What's going on over there?

Comparative admissions discussions may not be where you want to go on this board.

I'm probably going to take some flak for this comment, so let me preface it by saying I'm trying to be helpful, not snarky.

It is GREAT to have some new blood here on the board.  I think you'll find that many of the questions you're asking have been "debated" here in great detail (and with great gusto) over the past 4-5 months.  If you are new here, you might enjoy skimming through the last 30 or 40 pages of comments.  You may find that the question you have has already been discussed at length.  In some cases, beaten to death.

A side benefit is you will also learn the personalities: who is warm and fuzzy, who is painfully full of himself, and who is the curmudgeon that keeps yelling at the (new) kids to get off his lawn.

I'm probably filling that last role myself right now, but trust me; I mean well.
