Hear, hear!  I can get through the next week with Women's World Cup, but then what?

Please God, not the Red Sox.  Or even worse ... watching GOLF.

That's a great website.  Wish Bates had one like it.

Nice article about your transfer at QB.  It will certainly be an interesting battle to see whether he or Rosenberg wins the starting job.  But a little surprising to see that watching 4 hours of YouTube is all it takes to turn a kid into a kicker.  Who knew?  Wonder what Steve Wolf (Steven Hauschka's kicking coach, who has also worked with a half dozen other NESCAC kickers and punters) would say about that?

Happy and safe 4th of July to all. May God Bless America, today and always.

Does anyone know when the various pre-season camps start?

amh63

NewtoNescac....my "general" guess for the time is not before the arrival of students to FY orientations.  At Amherst, the first athletic games like soccer is on Sept. 8.....suggesting arrival date of the end of August for new students.  FY orientation last about a week.
With regards to football players actually starting practice....there is some conf. rules on that, I believe.

I am supposing that the NCAA rules apply to all Division III schools, although NESCAC could have a more restrictive position on pre-season practices.  The NCAA sets the first pre-season practice date as the day that will permit 25 practice opportunities before the first scheduled intercollegiate game.  The way a school must arrange these practices is set up in a very specific way in the NCAA Division III Manual.  Pre-season practice shall begin with a five-day acclimatization period.  Included in this five-day period are specific instructions about the number and length of practices as well as the opportunity to conduct one-hour walk through sessions on the days that are restricted to a single practice.  There are also restrictions during this period about what kind of equipment (helmets, pads, etc.) are permitted.
After the five-day period, the NCAA specifies the number of on-field practice opportunities.  For example,  before classes begin a school cannot conduct multiple practice sessions on consecutive days.  On those days when one practice occurs that session may not be longer than three hours.  On the days of multiple practices, players must be given a minimum of three hours of recovery between the end of the first practice and the beginning of the second.  During this rest time, players cannot engage in any football-related activities (meetings, weight lifting, etc.), but they many receive medical attention.  Since NESCAC schools' classes begin as varying times, there are varying ways to conduct practices.  And since the NESCAC season does not begin until September 26, I don't know how much the pre-season, pre-beginning of classes rules apply.
There are a number of exceptions and additions to make understanding these requirement even more challenging.  But every school abides by them, so I guess the coaches have it all figured out.
All this, I'm confident, is a result of schools pushing the rules--or breaking them--so the NCAA has had to structure the pre-season in a very specific way.
I hope you understand the practice opportunities and days leading up to the first game better than I do.  As I said, perhaps NESCAC has instituted an even more restrictive set of rules for member institutions.

NESCAC football teams begin practice Sept 1 this year.

Hello all! I wanted to jump into the discussion and introduce myself.  I am a long time lurker on the boards and have finally decided to jump into the discussions.  More specifically, I am here to bring some more Colby Mules representation to the boards and have our voice show up more from the cold reaches of central Maine. I look forward to joining this awesome board and cannot wait for the season this fall. BTP and Go Mules!

Welcome Retiredmule...great to have newcomers representing all corners of the NESCAC empire.

RetiredMule.....welcome aboard!  Always good to get a "diverse" group of knowledgeable posters.
Maybe you can sort out the QB "situation" at Colby :).  Because I  can and your use of "awesome"...plus K.

CBB is going to be an interesting battle this year.  New coaching staff (and uniforms?) at Bowdoin, new emphasis (and evolving QB situation) on Mayflower Hill .... and almost no news at all coming out of 3-time defending CBB champ Bates.  Will Harriman find a replacement for "Ironman" QB Cannone?  Will someone new master the triple option?  Will the Bobcats Special Teams find a replacement for David Kurey?

I can't wait for the season to start so we can find out!

NewtoNescac

Welcome, RetiredMule. I look forward to your fresh comments and observations.

Unrelated, I'm particularly looking forward to watching how the QB situation shakes out at Hamilton with the transfer kid, if Williams can turn it around, and if Tufts can keep it going.

And PolarCat, why do you say the QB situation is evolving on Mayflower Hill? I don't see much changing there. Do you?
