I saw of picture posted on Twitter from Bowdoin's picture day indicating a new look for the Polar Bears: white helmets with a black paw print decal, white pants, and white shirts with black slash partially down the side, shoulder stripe, numerals, and trim around the neck.  Much more modern and a cleaner look.

Polbear......I may add that the uniform described is more appropriate for a Polar Bear! :)
Big invasion of Bowdoin teams invading the Amherst fields....field hockey and both soccer teams...futbol as others call it.  Women's uniform is heavily black...since Amherst is wearing home whites.  Lady bears outplaying the Lady Jeffs in first half...but Amherst scores with 5 seconds left in the half.  Amherst made a mass substitution and a FY player scored....Nice.

Nitpick comment on the Bates pre- season roster website post.  Seems that one new player is given special attention...has two spots on the roster!  Looking at the hometown/ school listing..first thought Bates recruited twins :).

He is our secret weapon.  A kid literally so fast he can be in 2 places at once.  Like having 12 men on the field, but without drawing a flag.  Belichick has been on the phone trying to figure out how Bates did it, but Harriman isn't telling.

And more in keeping with the "Onward the White!" cheer.  (Though "Onward the White" seems more than a little un-PC, on a campus which had so many post-Ferguson Black Lives Matter die-ins and demonstrations).

Pol Bear 73-
Nice new look for the Bears with the White helmets- a good idea to eliminate the Caputi black matte helmets introduced a couple of years ago.
The basic uniform looks the same- the curse of a black/white color scheme is tough to work with. As you remember in the 70's and 80s the PBs incorporated silver in the uniform which gave them an Oakland Raiders look.

Maybe the Bears will wear white jerseys at home to reinforce the new "Forward the White" campaign.
I would drop the Bear paw on the new helmet which is another throwback to the 80's and would opt for the JBW Bamboo logo!!

Lumbercat-Various football alumni are lobbying for Bowdoin to wear the white jerseys at home, it is the official school color, after all.  Plus k to you for remembering the silver pants of the 70's, a great look back then, along with the block B on the shoulder.  Glad to see those black matte helmets go!

No one else can have silver pants.  Colby claims a sole ownership on them.

In today's Nothing But NESCAC write up on Bowdoin, Coach Wells alluded to an upcoming scrimmage with Tufts, so it appears that it is making a reappearance after a 2 year hiatus.

I'm being told by a usually-reliable source that the Bates-Colby scrimmage kicks off at 6:00 PM Friday on Mayflower Hill.

Should add that the coaches are referring to it more as a joint practice than a scrimmage. There will be a lot of 1-1 drills against each other besides your standard offense vs. defense scrimmage set-up.

Applaud the +k to Lumbercat but try to get a New England Sports question in the last 50 years by him.  And, good luck.

11 days to kickoff. With all the sub-plots, this should be one interesting season.

Can anyone provide the time and place for the Tufts-Bowdoin get together this weekend?
I see that the 2 head coaches, Trinity grads, have revived the Tufts-Bowdoin deal after a 2 or 3 year hiatus.

Given the relative quality of the NFL vs. NCAA games I've seen so far this season, I think college football has eclipsed the pros.  Yeah, Notre Dame and the Cowboys both had thrilling late game drives, but the Irish and Cavaliers played a much more solid game than the Boys and G Men.  And the other NFL games?  Pretty dreadful.  Even the D3 MIT vs. WPI game was more entertaining, and less plagued by miscues. :-*

Let's get this season started!

I heard from a reliable source that the Colby-Bates scrimmage this Friday should start around 6:15 pm at Bates. Also, due to numerous injuries to Bates players, the scrimmage is likely to be very limited.
