One of the best things about having a son admitted into the league to play ball has been reading way too much of this board.  Love the passion here, and the (mostly) intelligent discussion of true student-athletes playing the greatest game in the world.  Can't wait until the fall.

Congratulations and welcome!

Lots of fellow parents of current players here.  Following this board has a therapeutic value, as it allows us to forget - however fleetingly - the pain of writing those tuition checks.  For those of us who can no longer afford to take the family to Aruba, Aspen, Whistler or Maui for a week, the board is a very cost-effective form of recreation.

Thanks for recruiting Raymond out of the Liberty League, he developed a great program for the Larries over the last few years and was becoming a real problem for the rest of the LL. I am sure he will build a few Championships for Williams as well as beating the previously named Lord Jeffs ...Good Luck

Thx PC, we are lucky.  Won't have to consider home sale until year two.

Also added a couple of years to possible retirement......but worth it all..

Was lost on another board and went South for awhile.  Will join PolarCat in welcoming the latest board poster....Grabowski.  Plus k for thinking there are some bright posters on this board :)
Must warn you ahead of time...I did not take Latin and often misspell names in spite of auto correct.
Hey PolarCat.....just saw Amherst post a Lacrosse match on its website...that should bring a smile.
Do see a problem for the Polar Bears in the women's lacrosse team though....A starter for the team is still playing a Winter sport! :). Bowdoin is hosting a WBB NCAA regional site.

For a team that lost a bunch of talented seniors, the Polar Bears have a lot of talent, including two first years that may see playing time.  We watched Bowdoins scrimmage day, and I think we'll be just fine.

Our first game is this coming Saturday when we travel to meet the Lady Purple Mooses (nee Lady Jeff's) in Smallpox Blanket Town (formerly known as Amherst, in a less PC time).

Come on over and visit me on the lacrosse board.  It's almost as lonely there as a Jeb Bush Town Meeting.

The very best wishes for your daughter this season, PolarCat following a great freshman year as a stalwart on defense for the Polar Bears.

Thanks for the kind words about PolarKitten, but "stalwart" may be overdoing it.  When you have a team like last year's, with a roster chock full of truly outstanding players, it would have taken some real effort to look bad.  The Polar Bears have a tough month ahead, with Amherst, Williams, Hamilton, Middlebury and Trinity, all on the road.  Let's see how well they can stand up to that test before we toss too many platitudes around.

Come out and join us for a game (almost always followed by an epic tailgate)!

My limited contact team is better than yours!

The comment section in the NY Times article was particularly troubling.  Beyond concerns about player safety, it looks like more evidence of the ongoing pussification of America.

I think Dartmouth / Teevens has found the right compromise.  (Plus the motorized tackling dummy is way cool - you caqn check it out here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlVRoozBUiw ) Most of us are old enough to remember Darryl Stingley, and all it would take is one incident like that - in practice or in a game - to have an entire conference drop football overnight.

Dartmouth's non-permanently-brain-damaged alumni are better than ours!

(Listen, I love everything about football -- but the more stories I hear about former players' troubling medical histories, the more I am convinced we need to worry less about so-called "pussification" and do everything we can, within reason, to protect players' physical well-being, and Dartmouth does indeed seem to have found a good balance).
