Recruits tend to believe that they can successfully compete for a position against anyone.

I agree that should be the mind-set of a recruit, just pointing out that it certainly is not the case with every recruit. There are kids coming out of high school that know they are not at the level of a kid that got a spot at UConn or UVA (though I would also argue that there are some top kids on NESCAC rosters that would be on many division 1 rosters).
My point was the trend of transfer athletes could help a kid who was 50/50 between Trinity and another school lean toward that other school.
Just trying to provoke discussion, who knows.

I think it's important to note that with the exception of QB Billy Schweitzer who transfered to Trinity from UVA in '03, all of the D-1 transfers the Bants have gotten in recent years were kids who had been recruited by Trinity out of high school.  And Schweitzer ended up in Hartford in large part because his father is a Trinity alumnus.

It's my impression that this is the case with most transfer situations at any school.  It's not as if coaching staffs are going around recruiting kids away from other schools. In fact it's the other way around.  Usually a kid is unhappy because of playing time/coaching situation/etc. and they contact coaches at a school that they had considered attending during their recruiting process out of high school.

Also, of the recent D-1 transfers to Trinity, only OL Chris Balestrino in '04 and RB Gennaro Leo in '05 & '06 (both of whom transfered from D-1AA (or FCS) schools, were all-league selections. I think that shows a fairly limited impact that transfers have had in Trinity's recent success.  I also think it speaks volumes to me about the overall high level of football being played in the NESCAC.

I wasn't trying to take away from Trinity's success as a program, they have been by far the cream of the crop in the NESCAC the recent years.  I remember Schweitzer split time at QB, which goes to show you the talent Trinity had at the school already. Didn't his brother also play on the team and play a role into why he transferred there? We had a few heartbreakers with Trinity that still sting, but I respect the program. Just offering up some discussion meat.

Quiet on here for awhile.  Any big offseason news?  What happened with the Trinity transfer QB's?  If one of those two rumored transfers ends up at Trinity, they could be even better than last year, which is a scary thought for the rest of the league.

Nice article mentioning a Williams running back recruit:

The Ephs have an absolutely enormous hole at RB (only one returning varsity RB, and he only had a few carries last year, and need to replace the school's all time leading rusher), so I imagine they will be bringing in several frosh who can compete for time immediately (whether this kid is one of them, who knows).

I haven't heard anything new about the UNH transfer (aparantly the Maine QB left school about a week into the spring semester).  With that being said, whoever ends up playing QB for the Bants is going to have some mighty big shoes to fill considering what Eric McGrath did in his Trinity career. Saying they'd be better than last year is a bit premature.  They also lose their entire offensive line and the defenserive player of the year in Tyler Berry.

The Trinity football golf tournament is in a few weeks and typically they coaching staff will give a presentation about the kids they're bringing in and what their expectations are for the upcoming season.

Several NESCAC players among these scholar-athlete award winners:

Ashley is going to Middlebury, Morris, Murphy, and Riegel (not mentioned here, but previously noted on this board) are all going to Williams

This kid is looking at NESCACs...what position do you think he could play:

That kid looks horrible....

Just kidding (since its probably you).  Honestly, if the 40 time is right hes probably too slow for a nescac RB.  Looks definitly tough enough to play FB or middle linebacker in the league.

With another year of high school maturity, try him first at NT.

According to the Trinity Football website, the golf tournament took place yesterday, any updates on what was said by the coaching staff about their incoming recruits?
