This is probably answered somewhere on this thread, but why don't the NESCAC schools participate in post season D3 Football?

Since I have no idea what your answer means, I'll ask a NESCAC athletic director next time I see one during the basketball season.

NCAA PLAYOFFS??? How about starting with at least playing every team in the conference and play 9 regular season games. That way the season champion is decided on the field. With all the success the NESCAC has had in all the other sports, you mean to tell me it would take away from the football players studies to play one more regular season game? You could eliminate the scrimmage game and make it a regular season game, not really asking for too much is it?

I'm just saying we've ALWAYS played just eight games.

Sumfun,
To answer your question about the "short" football season in NESCAC.  The best answer is the shortest one.  The college presidents set the policy for sports in the conference.  No post season play in football.  They also set the size of the football teams.  As stated on the NESCAC web site, the conference participation  in the NCAA post season for teams was relatively recent.  The presidents, after a 5-year trail period,  agreed to allow team participations in the post season...in the NCAA.

Speaking from Williams point of view as a former player, I can't think of any playoff game that would be more meaningful than a Williams-Amherst game, especially one like last Saturday's.

A national championship game would probably be more meaningful I would hope.

By the way, why do people outside of NESCAC get so concerned over the fact that NESCAC football doesn't go to the playoffs?

I would be interested in Amherst alums and players comments on this.  Since Amherst is the NESCAC champion, you would probably play someone like Maine Maritime or Curry this year, the leaders in the NEFC.  Would you honestly be pumped up to play them?  Not a knock on either team, it's just a matter of tradition.  By the way after seeing both conferences play this season, I'd pick the Jeffs, or Trinity, or Williams.

Ephman I always wondered why people on the outside cared so much too.  I never got that.

And theres no doubt in my mind that Williams or Trinity could beat Curry or Maine this year.

Because they fully participate as Division III members in all other sports except football and no one has ever made a logical argument to why they shoudn't:
finals
tradition
money

Uh, it's the playoffs. The opponent shouldn't matter.
