Woops, I did mean Lupo, similar sounding names.

Scyocurka confirmed:

http://www.masslive.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/02/football_standout_alex_scyocur.html

He sounds pretty legit -- Ephs should be stacked at the RB for the future, as two frosh last year got some PT as well.  Hopefully Lupo will get a bit more help next year, as it is hard for one guy to carry basically the full load.

The bad news for the Ephs last year was they were just killed by injuries -- their two top players / co-captains missed much of the year, including the Amherst game, for example.  The good news is that (not counting kickers) something like 18 or 19 of they guys who ended up starting vs. Amherst will be back next year, plus lots of quality depth from guys who played due to injuries.

Any updates on the Wesleyan coaching vacancy?

"Sky's the limit" with Scyocurka unless he turns out to be a Sky-o-jerka.

This is the first time I can recall Frank U. commenting (even obliquely) on the grid iron abilities of a future Eph football player (or maybe the second, I heard stuff about Dylan Schultz, can't recall from whom), so he must be pretty legit.

Yet another interesting sounding RB will play for the Ephs next year, from a small school Texas program (much like Eph WR BJ Griffin, my prediction for break-out Eph next year):

Running back Marco Hernandez, 5-11, 190 pounds, the school's [Nolan Catholic] all-time leader in rushing yards, 4,376, and rushing touchdowns, 45, will play at Williams College in Massachusetts.

That is at least three TB's the Ephs are bringing in, all of whom put up monster stats in high school ... hard to imagine all three will stick at that position in college though.

Also, a QB who will play for Williams:

Now the hard part, Williams has to play the games.

I heard they haven't even begun interviewing.

Seriously who is making the decisions Wesleyan? They let an entire recruiting season go by without hiring a head football coach!

I'm sure they have assistants who were "recruiting" but let's be honest; they probably spent more time looking for jobs than actually recruiting and what kind of kid would commit to a program without meeting a head coach?

I have a feeling that whoever takes this job is going to have to deal with a lot of headaches from above.

Maybe Belichick is going to retire and take over?

They have been interviewing for the past few weeks with over 30 candidates

I would hope they've been interviewing candidates; it's been nearly two months since they fired Hauser!

I personally think Wes screwed this from the get-go and to me the situation seems to reinforce the stigma that the University is completely apathetic towards athletics in general, and football in particular.  Hauser probably should have gotten canned years ago especially after the '05 season in which they went 0-8.

The simple fact that they waited until December 21 to fire Hauser is ridiculous considering that the NESCAC season ended on November 14.  Did he really do something in those 5 weeks to push the administration over the edge? (I've heard rumors that one or more boosters refused to continue supporting the program financially unless they made a coaching change. It makes sense, but again, those are just rumors.)

I'm sure Wes has been flooded with candidates so why has it taken them an entire recruiting season to name a coach?

I hope for their sake that the wait was worth it and whoever takes over is prepared to make a culture change at Wes. The league is better when Wesleyan is competitive.

Also, Trinity should be announcing a new AD in the next few days. Rick Hazelton is stepping down after 28 years as department chair and director of athletics and 36 total years of service to the College.

Hazelton's record of success at Trin is remarkable and he will be sorely missed. I've heard that Mike Renwick, Associate Director of Athletics at Johns Hopkins is the leading candidate.

Although Wesleyan is a great school, my son took a pass on the opportunity to play there because of the uncertainty concerning the head coach.

Excited to hear Trinity named their new AD. Renwick seems like a fine choice. Also proud to report that my son, after considering several NESCAC and Centennial conf schools, has finally decided to enroll at Trinity and play football for Coach Devanney. We couldn't be happier. I look forward to learning more about the NESCAC through this site. Thanks for all the info. Go Bantams!

This is NOT confirmed, but I heard this QB may be going to Williams next year:

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=80962&season=2010

sounds like a bit of an atypical NESCAC-level recruit if so.  Williams already has, for sure, one other strong QB recruit and three big-time tailbacks coming in, so the offensive backfield should be restocked quickly after the graduation next spring of a very talented group of skill players ...
