Pallos, you're doing very little to dispel the image of the "elitist NESCAC snob".

For the record I'm in favor of a 10 game schedule for NESCAC football teams with NCAA playoff participation.
I'd love to see a schedule where every conference team plays one another along with one out of conference game.

Pat, I really hope this stays fun for you because a lot of people really enjoy the site.

Now back to the fast approaching NESCAC season: I hear Trinity's freshman class has been impressive especially at RB (where they need to find a compliment to Nana Appah-Sampong) and also at quarterback which could make for a very interesting scrimmage at Wesleyan this weekend.

Freshman QB William Jennings who comes to Trinity from Charlotte, NC via Choate was impressive in Trinity's intrasquad scrimmage.  If the incumbent starter, senior Craig Drusbosky, is unable to clearly win the battle I suspect Jeff Devanney would rather play someone he can build around for the future.

Is it possible that we could see the Bants return to a rotating quarterback system that was used successfully during the Priore era?

Touche' - all i'll say in response is that our numbers seem to show folks don't mind tuning into our "little radio show"....

Trin - what's the latest from Hartford these days?  Have the NESCAC schools been following other east teams doing major renovations to their athletic facilities?  From what I recall from my college days schools like Midd and TC already had pretty nice set ups, Hamilton and Bates were kind of "eh"....

Either way, being a "Hahtfud" native (but one who hasn't been back in a long time), I hope the Bantams have a good season...

You mean something like:

"Listen this weekend to the only weekly source for Liberty League Football Conference interviews, previews and reviews on the Internet, 'In the HuddLLe' at http://InTheHuddLLe.com.  Every show is jam-packed with player, coach and other interviews, expert analysis and even a few laughs.  That's 'In the HuddLLe,' live each Sunday during the season at 7:30pm EDT and archived for your listening pleasure!"

That's below TGP's pay grade.  That's why it's my job.

I left the door wide open for TGP to respond with that and was totally expecting it from him......I guess it takes a Union grad to be that clever!!!!

Really, you just do this for "fun"? At 37 yrs old, a D3 football groupie? That's really... weird. It just seems that for all the time you seem to have checking for spelling errors and driving around northern Wisconsin, there wouldn't be any meaningful time for much else  ;D. In the past, I've driven to a few games to see my sons play, or family friend,s but ..... These days I'm retired, but I don't even seem to have enough time to play much golf. OK, fare  ;D enough.  Good on you for doing your thing.

Yep. Hey, you're the one who started ragging on people's education but couldn't spell correctly. And then proceeded to call people names. Not sure you add anything to the board.

Pallos went to Douchebag U.  What a clown.

Lewis, I don't know what makes me more ashamed: the fact that I was only wait-listed at Douchebag U.... or the fact that you are my son.

Maybe it's the latter, you ass clown.

                                                                Dad

So I went back and read through the previous posts of Pallos because I am that bored at work.  He claims to have went to Michigan State.  His post history is littered with snobby and elitist undertones.  You should see the way he kept trying to find ways to stroke off his son's academic accomplishments under the guise that he was only disclosing them to demonstrate how rigorous the Williams admission standards were.  All of this from a guy that went to an institution that accepts a higher percentage of applicants than places like SUNY Cortland and St. John Fisher.  That is saying something.

Hey Pallos do us a favor and go [removed/moderator]

That's ridiculous and offends me...which is hard to do.  Get a clue and talk football.  Don't know a ton about the league this year, but I do know there has been very little talk about Midd.  McKillop can keep them in any game and should repeat as Offensive Player of the Year.  Unless their defense is really awful they should win no less than 5 games this year.

Williams preview is posted:

http://athletics.williams.edu/sports/fball/2010-11/releases/091510_2010_Season_Outlook

Two things stuck out to me: the increased emphasis on conditioning under the new coaching regime, and the comment about one of the most physically gifted groups of first year skill positions in Williams history.  Considering the Ephs will graduate their QB, RB, top WR and TE, those guys will likely see a lot of action as sophomores.

If the secondary can come together, there don't appear to be any glaring personnel holes on the roster.  Front seven should be VERY tough especially with the guys back from injury, and the offensive skill positions are loaded.  Griffin could have a break-out year at WR, and I'm curious to see what the frosh backs can do to help keep Lupo fresh.

Williams was listed by Forbes fairly recently as the top college in the country and US World News Report lists them as the top liberal arts and Forbes simply has Williams listed as the top undergrad institution in the nation, categories be damned. Outstanding! Amherst is # 3  >:(, just behind Princeton. Many other NESCAC schools are right up there as well.

In terms of academics, all NESCAC schools are powerhouses and dwarf the D3 pack. For NESCAC fans that's something we take no small measure of pride in. And while NESCAC may not be a powerhouse football conference-- it's probably the conference's weakest sport on a national scale, but it's still highly entertaining-- you won't find a more powerful D3 sports conference - - for both men and women sports.

Good luck to all teams this season!

Obviously a real well rounded scholar here... ???

According to this a Penn State grad is more likely to get a job than a Williams grad.  In fact when the WSJ ranked the top 25 schools according to corporate recruiters only one Ivy (Cornell) and no NESCAC schools made the list.  Most were state schools and engineering schools.

nescac 1.....you beat me in citing William's preview.  Interesting read.
Amherst's preliminary 2010 roster was put up yesterday.  There are 25 first year players!  Amherst will have to reduce the roster  to reach the 75 limit.  The first years have big linemen and running backs as well as defensive backs and linebackers.  The coach is reloading the defense and preparing to return to an more balanced offensive attack.  The last several years the running game was hindered by an attack missing a good fullback.  Two of the new big backs are over 230 pounds, with one being listed at 6 feet and 249 pounds.  It will be good to return to an offense that includes a top level fullback.  Of course, the key, IMO, to young backs is their ability to block well.   It seems that all the "top" teams are bringing in talented players to meet their needs.  It will be an interesting season.
Oh yes, will Williams and Amherst have a scrimmage this year? (A practice, I found strange.  I remember scrimmages with conference teams that one does not play during the season.)
There was a poster's question about upgrades to NESCAC fields.  I believe the Hamilton's field was recently made a turf field.  I also believe one of the Maine schools.Bated?..also upgraded their football field recently.

nescac1

Williams has its roster posted as well, and it seems like they and Amherst took the opposite approach in recruiting this year.  Williams brought in only ONE D-linemen, no tight ends or fullbacks (although Williams rarely employs a fullback, or at least rarely did under Whalen), and three smallish o-linemen .... other than the big d-linemen, Williams brought in no really large guys.  But the Ephs seem to have loaded up on skill and speed, with two highly regarded QB's, three highly regarded TB's (at least one and maybe two should play right away), two big-time prospects at WR, and some very good DB's, including one frosh mentioned as a potential starter.  They even have two new kicker / punters.  The Ephs should be set at QB and RB for awhile, so I imagine next year the emphasis will be on bringing in big linemen on both sides of the ball, and TE/LB types.

The Williams roster is, as usual, SUPER outdated by the way.  Guys are perpetually listed at the position, height and weight they played at as frosh (for example Bryce Bennett is a WR, not a QB).  Lots of the linemen, I'm quite sure, are substantially heavier than their listed weights.

I believe Amherst and Williams scrimmage Saturday, but it's less a true scrimmage than a glorified practice.

Williams' field is scheduled for a massive upgrade / switch to turf, but that has been delayed due to the economy, I imagine that project is now one or two years away.
