Frank......The game was then in my junior year for it was at Williams....I had initially put it as my junior year but was too lazy to check and changed it .
The house was to the left of the gate to Pratt field....over a small bridge road (now closed to traffic).  It still exist and appears in good condition...if we are talking about the same house.  When Coach "DARP" retired, I believe he and his wife moved to a house in Sunderland, Ma. where his wife still resides.  When I attend homecoming games, my wife and I stay in Sunderland as guest of friends, the host being a former Prof. at UMass.  These friends have called on the coach's wife at times.  It is quite common for key Amherst staff and professors to reside in college housing until they retire or purchase housing.  It seems that about half the housing in the residential areas of Amherst proper belongs to Amherst College.....just like the case up in Williams?

Amherst football practice starts August 27th.

82slice.....thanks for the info.  The academic calender states that reg. student housing is not available until sometime later in the week.

That's right. But I know freshmen and certain other groups come a little earlier than the rest of the student body.

Williams footballers first report on Monday 8/27.

Thanks Frank for the info.  With just two data points, I can conclude that the football practice start date in the conference is the same.
To conclude our earlier discussion.....the "rest of the story"......the one lost in '61 was to Williams and the lost in '62 was to Trinity.

Regarding football start dates, I can also share that the Lord Jeffs will have an inter-squad scrimmage on the 8th, and will scrimmage Williams, at Williams on the 15th, before getting things going for real on the 22nd.  It should be an interesting few weeks, as they've got a lot of position battles to get settled on during this time especially on offense, where they've lost almost all of their skill players.  They'll have a new QB, new starter at RB, and all new receivers.

Wesleyan has posted their football roster for 2012.

http://www.wesleyan.edu/athletics/football/roster/index.html

Seems like they stocked up on some good sized freshman linemen.  Also, they are showing 99 kids so, if I understand the rules properly, there are going to be some cuts to get down to a 75 man roster...correct?

One interesting name on that Wesleyan list is Jackson Taylor, QB, who is a transfer from Maine.  http://www.goblackbears.com/sports/m-footbl/2011-12/bios/taylor_jackson_svcl

We've already seen what a higher level transfer can do in NESCAC after McCallum Foote's big year at Middlebury. Wesleyan's biggest question mark is QB, considering they have no one returning who threw any passes last year.  If Taylor or anyone else can step up to be an impact player in the passing game, combined with Ladarius Drew's continued development, Wesleyan's rebuiding project may see big time results even earlier than anticipated.

nescac1.....thanks for the info.  As talented as he seems, the FY player will be sitting on the bench in both sports, IMO.  I have three words for you why Amherst will get such players over Williams most of the time......location, location, location.  Just kidding around.
Last year, there was a student that was also a football/basketball talent.  He is bigger at 5'10"/170#.  He sat on the bench in  both sports even though he was 2nd team all-state in New York in football and all long Island in BB.  I looked over the film shots from HS and Gene Garay was quite a RB/WR in football and had speed and quickness  galore on the hardwood.  I am thinking he can be a potential WR for Amherst this year.
82slice...again thanks for the data.  Another year of a football scrimmage with Williams....what foolish crazy .....blank !  What more reason for a 9 game season!  Last year, I believe the Amherst QB was injured a bit in the scrimmage and did not play early in the season.  The QB battle at Amherst will actually be over picking two QB's to start (see last year's picks) since even in a 8-game schedule, a team needs at least several QB's ready to start.  Add a third if it provides an alternative style.  Same case in the RB selections.  Big back, quick back...running back...receiving back.  Amherst has a big FB that could be a fine blocking back and a "H " back.   That is a full back/tight end player....as in the NFL Redskin scheme.

Yes, iamhuge, a lot of NESCAC teams post big pre-season rosters (especially Williams, Amherst, Trinity, and I guess now Wesleyan) and whittle them down to 75 guys after injuries, defections, and frosh who don't make the team.  A lot of those guys will play J.V. instead.

amh63, there are plenty of guys over the years on the Williams teams who Amherst would have LOVE to have had, I'd say ...  the head-to-head record speaks for itself, after all :).   But we can agree on one thing, it is beyond ridiculous for Amherst and Williams to scrimmage every year, and if you are going to play nine games anyway, why not just have the ninth game count so everyone in NESCAC gets a shot at every other team?  But, we've had consensus on the board forever about that, and I guess it's a lost cause, alas.

iamhugh...nice to hear from you again.  To answer your question.....yes.  The team limit is 75 players.
When the team limit was imposed by the "CAC" presidents...it was an attempt, I believe, to try to make a more "even playing field".  Up to then, over the years, Trinity, Williams and Amherst were the only schools that consistently had rosters over 90 players.  Last year, Hamilton had a small roster.  Hopefully, the new coach at Hamilton can up the roster and the talent level.  Wes. it seems and predicted is getting quite serious about football again.  Last year Wes. had a talented QB that had followed the coach from Williams.  However, his passing talents did not follow him to the Cardinals offense....lack of receivers?
Any inputs on the Tufts' team at this time?

amh63 you may be right on the QB question at Amherst.  They've got 4 guys on the roster now, three of whom appear to be your more traditional spread offense, big, strong-arm QB's.  I think they range in size from 6'2" to 6'6", and all ran the spread attack in high school.  The fourth guy is more an option QB, 6', 190, who ran the veer and triple option in high school.  So, maybe we'll see some change of pace stuff in the offense.  Who knows.  They do have a huge fullback, 6'3" 230, and some quick smaller backs, so my bet is we'll see running back by committee.  WR is wide open, pun intended.

The Rule of 75 is without sustainable logic and a pedagogic abomination to boot. Those who favor it are naive at best and morons at worst.
