Regarding the Wesleyan RB stats, it's almost always tougher to run early in the game vs. a fresh defense than it is later on, and I imagine Drew's numbers would have picked up after he and the rest of the offense had already pounded the D into submission early in the game.

Amh63, not sure you were aware while watching that the new Yale offensive coordinator is Kevin Morris, a former Eph football player.  He was formerly the head coach of the UMass football team, but was let go after last season.  Other Ephs in the college football coaching ranks include Mike Bajakian (offensive coordinator of Cincinnati) and Dave Clawson (head coach of Bowling Green).

Union SO QB Connor Eck (during Frank Rossi's interview with him on ITH / www.inthehuddlle.com last Sunday) referenced his older brother Jordan is a SR QB at Hamilton.  We didn't see Eck mentioned in the Amherst game box score.  Is he out with an injury?

ITH RADIO......check the post on this board after the Sat. game for the explanation.  It seems he was temp replaced by a QB that transferred from Trinity College.  Check the game write ups for next weeks games.....or contact the SID at Hamilton.

Has anyone determined if the replacement NFL refs are former  NESCAC officials? Presumably they would be "former" D3 refs, now working Sundays instead of Saturdays.

I'd guess so since they are used to seeing such 'blazing speed' in the NESCAC. :-)

Thanks.  Found the explanation on the prior pages.  Shame for Eck but so it goes, even at the D3 level.

Williams-Trinity game preview is posted.  Looks like the Ephs continue to be down a few guys on offense.  Marco Hernandez is listed as the starting tailback, so presumably Scyocurka (who has really had tough luck with injuries, hurt in two straight season openers) will not be playing.  Wohlwender, the second-string TB, missed last game with an ankle injury, hopefully he can go vs. Trinity, but who knows.  The Ephs do have good depth there but obviously you don't want to be down your top two runners vs. the Trinity D.  Frosh Grossnickle is still starting at left tackle, so presumably Cong Tian continues to be out.  He acquitted himself well vs. Colby but he will face a lot of pressure in only his second career game going up against Trinity's D.  WR Greg Payton missed the first game as well, not listed as starting and not sure if he will play vs. the Bants.  Lots of receivers looked good vs. Colby but Payton is definitely a big weapon if he can play.  Ephs are fortunately starting the same defensive unit, however.

Brace yourself, the D3 refs are coming home. And they might be angry about their NFL nightmare.  i predict a lot more flags this weekend. (if any Nescac refs truly were NFL replacements).
It's hard to see Hamilton not starting  the season 0-3, with Wes and Trinity coming up.  The Bates Hamilton game in November could be the highlight of the season for both teams.

Pat Coleman

There was not some massive outflux of refs from D3 to the NFL. There were definitely D3 refs working there but it was only a percentage. Average would be maybe one ref per conference.

The Amherst vs. Bowdoin Preview is finally out.  Game will be webcasted by Bowdoin..thank you!  In the review of last week's Bowdoin game vs. Midd., it seems the Polar Bears used two QBs.  The QB that faced Amherst last year was replaced by another junior OB.  Too many picks/errors against the Pathers?
Anyway, some football trivial.  Trinity has announced that it's long time Head baseball coach (22 seasons-a national championship) is leaving Trinity and his player son for the head job at Harvard.  It seems he was a coach on the football team for 10 of the 22 years..including one interim Head coach season at the time of the turn of the century.

It is my understanding that 1st week starting QB Grant White suffered an injury versus Middlebury.  Concussion if I am not mistaken ...

I know....back again with little to add.   Still need to put in a jab or two with respect to Williams.
First,.....all the conference games on Sat. has a start time of 1 PM...except for the Trinity vs. Williams game at 1:30PM.  Whats up?  Traffic problems to Williams?   Well maybe parking for the anticipated large crowd.
NFL referee ruckus......Seems on the 2nd Jeff Report....an audio conversation with Amherst's HFC about the upcoming weekend game(new feature on the football preview)...the reporter asked the coach about his thoughts on the NFL situation.  One comment is that there was a referee from the conference working a NFL game.  Some sports news outlet made a comment that ...to paraphrase here a little.."the biggest previous game that ref. had to work was the Amherst-Williams contest! " The HFC laughed about it and stated that it was good PR for the "CAC".

amh63

Thanks FourMoreYears....the Preview and the HFC did not touch on the change.  HFC for Amherst expects the possibility of two QBs in Maine.

This weeks NESCAC odds as posted today at Ceasers Sports Book in Las Vegas:

Trinity -9 @Williams

@Wesleyan -17 Hamilton

Amherst -21 @Bowdoin

Bates -6  @Tufts

Middlebury -18 @Colby

I will post my picks tomorrow and invite all to weigh in with their selections.

Random thought for the day:  Bowdoin has the best stadium in the NESCAC--unique, original---a classic.
